On subconsciousness

If we were to completely switch our consciousness and subconsciousness, in such a way that that our subconsciousness would be able to speak and act rationally but would still be slightly limited by our conscious selves (now taking the role of subconsciousness), would they have a personality or be just a messy fusion between our primal instincts, vices and underlying mental ilnesses? Would they have some sort of ethics (since when we refrain from doing something that would make us feel on the wrong side it is usually something subconscious, hardwired into our brains)? Is there a way of experimenting with this irl, or at least in dreams?

Thats a really bizarre thought, so bizarre I almost immediately dismissed it and now feel the opposite sorta. Maybe for whatever reason physically it isnt possible, but as just a thought I can imagine it at the least. I think it would be almost exactly like various stages of lucid dreaming or maybe hypnagogic sleep. Where our consciousness actually does take sort of a backseat and simply can chime in. This life would feel like the dream and the consciousness, depending on person and moment, would influence it on a spectrum from unrememerable blackout to simply awareness and active memory to something feeling like that full lucid dream state.
Whats kind of troubling me is that I dont see how this is all that different from how things are now from my perspective. As in truly, no response. Could invalidate what I just said, could point to something deeper, could be not true at all, no idea. Thats why its troubling me.

There is not a stark distinction between your conscious and subconscious self. You're an amalgamation of your awareness. A blending and mixing of physical stimuli and their processing and interpretation. You only experience the world as a singular being because experiencing it in any other way would be detrimental to your survival.
There is nothing to "flip". It's like trying to be behind, in front of, or beside water.

I think you could look to sleepwalkers for the closest thing to a solidification of your theory. I also have a personal anecdote that your post made me think of;
As a person who drives a lot, I tend to daydream or start talking after a while and I'm not paying consious attention to my driving. Mind you I'm still driving perfectly well, I go into an autopilot of sorts but I've had situations where I would overshoot my destination or default to somewhere else that I usually go. It's happened when I was deep in conversation and I don't notice until my passenger says, "Hey, where you going?"
Anyway I think you could compare that anecdote to sleepwalkers in the sense that the subconscious takes over and is able to perform mundane tasks that were learned by the subject during a state where the conscious is either dormant or distracted.
I wouldn't know how to test this off the top of my head but I'm sure anyone could start brainstorming several ways.

Whoops, i mis-worded that third paragraph. I meant to say "learned in a state of consciousness and carried out by the subconscious when your asleep/distracted.
My bad, I should have proof-read better.

Hello, psychologist here. The answer is messy fusion. Zero ethics, zero personality, and also the idea of "mental illness" wouldn't make sense because it would be simply chaos. Well, instead of conscious-unconscious, let's talk about SuperEgo - Ego - Id. The Id (latin for "that"), is what you described: pure chaos, a multiplicity of desires that tends towards something in the outside.
I don't think there's a true way of experimenting with this, IMO only far-gone schyzophrenics and babies know what it feels like, and even then, their consciousness is simply not there anymore. Even in our dreams, a part of our unconscious (Superego) regulates their content, so it's not absolute chaos.

What you are referring to is something known as "a lack of self control"

subconsciousness knows more than I do. subconsciousness tells me stuff in unorganized way. also subconsciousness does so way too rarely, unfortunately.

>subconsciousness would be able to speak and act rationally
The "subconscious" isn't a real thing, it's a metaphor which attempts to give some insight into how dreams and fantasies work. It's not a "thing", it's not a part of the "brain." Nobody has ever traversed the "subconscious". Many schools of Philosophy argue whether or not it is even a real "thing."Although, I'm sure you can use cool sounding words like "subconscious," "primal instincts," and "vices" to manipulate other people into thinking "oh wow you're soooooo smart" though.
