Sometimes when I sleep I dream about jumping and then I kick my legs IRL as if I were jumping which then wakes me up. I hasn't become much of a problem for me as it does not happen often, but I am curious about why it happens and how to prevent it if it does become a problem in the future.

Body didn't fall asleep with your brain. No clue on how to stop it. Try deep breathing and relaxing before bed.

I sometimes experience what may be the hypnic jerk when going to bed some nights. I'll be falling asleep, and maybe the sensation I get is falling, and my head and upper body jerk forward along with my legs, and the bed creaks. It doesn't happen often, though.
It's interesting how the brain can imagine doing things, without the body responding. The brain has some manner of connection with the body that can be temporarily disabled. Clearly, it's not quite working correctly here, but that doesn't tell much.

Sometimes i would dream that i slipped over or got hit in my leg which would make my irl legs fuzz up and ache / go numb and that would jolt me awake
