what is the truth of tulpas?
would prefer personal experience or scientific evidence over rumors anons
if possible what are their benefits? how did you create it?
I want to create myself a nightmarish one, I have my reasons, but I want to feel watched all the time, being unable to sleep, and if possible have 'it' talk to me about horrible things
Cereal Killer · 2020-11-22 22:37
Although the premise is interesting, most of people that are into tulpas are just furries that want to satisfy their weird sexual desires, when i wanted a thing that would help me seeing things with other perspective just like Mr Robot did on the series. I don't know if what I want is possible so I just quited.

If you're interested in the hidden soykaf your brain can do or the things it's trying to tell you, read up on Carl Jung, the subconscious, dreams and their symbols, lucid dreaming, etc. The brain can do a lot of crazy soykaf in dreams or inbetween wakefulness, and lucid dreaming can even help you communicate with and influence your subconscious.

Having a lucid dream conversation with a symbolic representation of your phobias or desires sounds much more helpful than trying to induce some sort of tulpa schizophrenia.

I've spoken with two girls that had tulpa as well as spoke with their tulpas through them. One was basically around since childhood and it oddly enough only speaks French (she's multi lingual). The other intentionally created one due to skepticism. Psychology isn't a hard science but

Tulpa's are basically hallucinations / holograms yes. created by the subject focusing their entire waking consciousness on the creation of the faux-subject. To do this you have to spend literally hours a day basically meditating on slowly building a body and entirely unique consciousness to then inhabit the body
If were being technical a lot of things that people believe they have seen like their religions god(s) demons and angels etc etc etc could all be rationalised through the lenses of tulpa's and vice versa ironically enough. most religious catechism and ritual is an attempt to "see god" after all.
Dujour · 2020-11-25 16:24
No one has ever been able to explain this to me in a way that makes it sound any different than schizophrenia. Yes I've read web articles about it but I've also known schizophrenic people, a couple of whom shared their secrets with me. I'm convinced it's the same thing.

Schizophrenia is not the same thing. You can see major differences in the brains of schizophrenics with imaging, at a glance.
I doubt you'll see much difference in the brains of people who have been talking to their tulpas for years unless they do it while imaged.
That said I don't think fuarrrking with your head like that is a good idea.

It's not just a hallucination. Technically it's beyond that since hallucinations usually aren't very interactive and intelligent.
>>3768
I know multiple people with schizophrenia and I am also the one that mentioned talking to a few girls with tulpas. Like I said in this post above to another Lain hallucinations usually don't act like tulpa do. Schizophrenic hallucinations usually are just strange noises or voices saying put downs not any specific character and if it is someone specific it is someone they actually knew. I only know one person diagnosed schizoaffective who has a hallucination that's just like a tulpa but I suspect it's possible she actually created a tulpa on accident because this hallucination looks just like an OC she created but it's like the result of a bad tulpa because it's abusive. Tulpas are meant to be helpful and it's not too common for schizophrenic hallucinations to be helpful though it does occur because sometimes they say funny things for some people for example. Also schizophrenia is more than hallucinations it's also delusions and blunted emotions and cognitive problems as well as poor sleep quality. I haven't seen someone with a tulpa make complaints of losing their ability to focus or remember things or not able to sleep well. So while similar it's not exactly the same.

You need to be utterly deranged or retarded to believe in anything involving "tulpas". Seriously, it isn't even mental illness, it's pathetic attention seeking and/or self-delusion.
Fred Nurk · 2020-12-30 16:34
I tried making a pony tulpa and one other, years back, but without success. I could blame this for the mental anguish I feel strongly at times, but I already long suffered under it. You haven't lived until you try working on a tulpa in front of a close friend.
Now, I heavily fantasize on a daily basis, imagining the same scenes over and over, but this is very different from a tulpa.

>what is the truth of tulpas?
Truth is that you don't exist, consciousness is an elaborate illusion and it's not that big of a deal to spin up a second consciousness in your head. It happens normally in children all the time, until their chaotic neural networks stabilize.
>if possible what are their benefits?
After 8 years of being together: total psychological self-sufficiency. I feel all the psychological advantages of being married to a loving wife, in a way. Also massive improvement in imagination, if I'm put in solitary confinement forever I'd be totally fine inventing our own universe.
Thought process is somewhat parallelized now, we can think on different things, but it's not half as efficient as you might think due to how the brain is organized. You can imagine your intelligence as a set of specialized computers that you talk to over the high-speed bus: different abilities are their own separate computers that consciousness powers up with its attention, so it's not possible for both consciousnesses to utilize, say, mathematical abilities at the same time to solve different tasks, unless you have a second brain, with a separate mathematical apparatus.
>how did you create it?
Read a lot of guides, understood what's it about in general, then followed that path. Mindlessly following guides probably won't work, you have to find a special approach to yourself.
Why I created it is a better question - I didn't believe that it's possible and wanted to prove or disprove it to myself. If it doesn't work - not a big deal, if it does - I'll be more self-sufficient, running dual-core and being twice as efficient! Turned out that it's possible, they stay forever, but it's more like being hyper-threaded than dual-cored, so our efficiency did not improve much.
>I want to create myself a nightmarish one, I have my reasons, but I want to feel watched all the time, being unable to sleep, and if possible have 'it' talk to me about horrible things
That's not how it works. Tulpa is just a second consciousness spinning in your head, it's not an anime character out of parallel reality. You'll feel watched, but it's like being watched by your loved dog - you feel cozy and protected.

The nature of the very universe is mental. How else could a intricate reality like ours be maintained? Your thoughts are real - In your mind. If you disagree, you qualify that your thoughts are, in fact, not real. Luckily, you have full control over your mind (assuming) and can use this to benefit, learn, and aid your daily life. These types of practice are utilized during meditation, and to an extent astral travel. Tulpa phenomenon is less abnormal than you'd think. I believe it to be inherently hermetic.

So you wanna be schizophrenic, basically? Just have a Son of Sam style dog monster that tells you to murder people? ...k.
Tulpas are essentially delusions. Which doesn't exactly make them less real, as long as you are only worried about perceiving them yourself. But I don't think any of the methods are legit ways to form delusions in a healthy mind. People who claim to be successful are mostly a. huge fat liars and losers, or b. people who were already pretty delusional. And pigeon superstition does the rest. You just attribute the ritual as the cause of success, when more realistically you have no way of knowing that. But that's not how a delusional mind works anyway.

I created something of a weak tulpa before I ever knew what they were. From what little I've read about the creation of them, it seems like consistent character building is what creates them. Mine is certainly distinguishable from my "Self" when I am have thoughts that involve them. Though I am aware that it is not another "real" person, their opions can sometime differ from my own, but this comes from me essentially creating this person and their personality, hence I answer questions for them as they are essentially part of me and cannot contain anything I do not, but ostensibly compromised of different experiences and therefore have different takes on subjects.
Like I said, mine was "accidental" essentially an imaginary friend of sorts that stuck around for years until it became less "imaginary" and more autonomous.
I've never visualized them, they don't butt into my everyday thoughts unless I "summon" them.
I will say I've never done any sort of tulpa building exercises, but I'm certain that they would work to some extent. I don't mean to tell you what you should and shouldn't do, but I don't think you should do what you're considering.
I've gone many months without speaking or thinking about mine, and yet when I summon them back they are just the same as always, I have no idea how I could put the cat back in the bag so to speak.
You can have a positive tulpa that disagrees with you, it doesn't have to be a nightmarish demon, if you do this wrong it could certainly lead to insanity, you're basically inducing some form of schizophrenia and you need to be careful.

Yeah tulpas are a thing, along with spirituality and religions for the entirety of humanity. Manifestation, along with unseen nature. But we're modern men not fools, so we can ignore literally all of that except for the trendy tulpa part. :) /s
Basically OP is asking for a spiritual parasite, and like many of you probably already has one. Not a judgment on the community really, it's just that they're incredibly common nowadays. If OP wishes to destroy his life all he has to do is learn how to lower his psychic defense and give it permission, and tulpamancy is certainly an avenue for that. But a tulpa done right, as in one's own creation and not a walk-in spirit, is just a well developed servitor, egregore, or godform, depending on goals and development. They can be very beneficial, like Carl Jung's Philemon, but tulpamancy is very much rolling the dice.
I do have personal experience, but what the hell can I say that any book cannot? Scientifically much of the relevant research will be concerning MPD/DID. Religious folk and fiction authors also often run into tulpa-like phenomenon (William Gibson and Phillip K Dick are two examples). Just don't be an idiot, and just because some dumbass community doesn't call it magick doesn't mean it isn't. If you do decide to be an idiot though, don't count on other tulpamancers to help you since they have a strict policy of claiming that all bad experiences are the fault of the 'mancer. there real the same way imaginary friends are real, why do people pretend this soykaf? are you really that lonely?
Elliot Alderson · 2021-06-19 00:38
>>4673
*they're
Yes people are that lonely. Also ancient Tibetan monks invented it to test themselves. They were to create it then realize it was a false deity if I recall. Considering things like dissociative identity disorder, aka multiple identity disorder, exist it's not that out there to think that a mind can hold more than one personality; of which such a disorder is induced by time and culture studies have shown. In Tibet they deliberately gave themselves the disorder, in modern times cognitive dissonance from mixed messages of post modern society makes people have split personalities, and in the movie Sybil (and perhaps book) the therapist doesn't even call it insanity but a beautiful alternative to it, though not verbatim. It's a coping mechanism, the splitting is, and for Tibet it was about discipline in regards to faith.
Also not everyone has imaginary friends and I've suspected that having one is temporary child schizophrenia with how randomly prevalent it is.

They're definetly out there in one form or another. If you look back on history, you see them almost in every culture. Tulpas, house gods, daemons, guardian angels, totems, fylgjur, spirit guides, spirit animals, et cetera, they're all made of the same cloth. I'd even go out on a limb say it's human nature. Much like >>3928
said, happens with children constantly, we just stimy their progress because our culture discourages the phenomenon.
I just put them into three categories: underlings who are simple constructs you can puppet and parrot around - most of the tumblr 'systems' and pony bandwagoners' companions belong here - but don't have much independent thought of their own. Second are peers who are more complicated and thus harder to manifest and while they can make decisions on their own, you can still influence them and control them without 'force'. Most of the 'personal spiritual companion' type. Third are superiors, these ones are the hardest and most complex because they're not only independent, they'll be making decisions for you. This is where gods and the like come into the picture.
Mine's been around for seven years. Was a servant but now a peer but still, she's quite dormant and not very complicated; she was just an experiment at first as well. She can make her own decisions, have some opinions of her own on a select few things and I can see her form in full 3D wherever I want, often feeling her presence nearby too when I talk to her, nonetheless.
the_skald · 2021-06-21 17:04
consciousnesses are just complicated computer programs that are capable of reprogramming themselves; tulpas are just subroutines running in your main program loop. they're real but only as real as a thought can be, anyway. however, I would highly recommend seeking some kind of mental help for your son-of-sam-esque schizo fantasies

I saw exactly one semi "true" post and even then it was nonsense. "true" as in, there is a documented and understood idea of what a Tulpa is and there is an almost completely different idea thats talked about online. Im not some "things dont change, original thing better, no other meaning but historical one allowed" kind of person, but I think anyone who reads what im saying will think this weird /x/ type tulpa soykaf is so far removed and there isnt really any good reason for it to be beyond poorly understanding the original meaning.
The idea comes from Buddhism. It shares in exactly one thing with whats being talked about here mostly, in that it is a "thought form". However beyond that it is not something that acts independently of itself to your surprise, and this is bet shown in where it shows up. It primarily is illustrated in two things in its original meaning, one is in that this Tulpa mental body is what supposedly allowed the Buddha to travel to other realms and soykaf like that. The second is in a specific instance where the buddha creates a bunch of himself. And this is something you, or the buddha at least, supposedly can make someone see. What it does is make this idea of other realms or universes tangible, that one could visit them using a Tulpa. It is an "emanation" of yourself, not a creation.
In addition is an idea that we ourselves are Tulpas, some type of godhead emanation. Other ideas that we have them already and dont know it, like a more mystical version of that idea that there is infinite alternate realities with parallel versions of ourselves in every universe. Or that things like "astral projecting" or maybe even dreaming IS a Tulpa we simply have, unrealized, actually travelling to other realms. Even all this, though I know its decently accurate, is not even likely that accurate. It can be incredibly hard to find the buddhist literature in easily digestible forms in english. Especially tibetan buddhism, which seems to be where most of the more intense analysis and elaboration on Tulpas is at. If anyone knows better feel free to correct me, but the only post I saw in here about this claimed it was about Tibetan monks trying to create a god and inducing dissacociative identity disorder on themselves. DID is commonly what people associate or explain this new age idea of Tulpas with. Yet the original Tulpa so clearly has no similarities to such things. I think even if I got it a bit wrong I should have made it at least clear by now how removed from any tradition or history the modern Tulpa is. Thats fine, except its using the name to have historical basis, its a nod essentially saying "This is the same thing as that soykaf talked about in Buddhism even if different". Problem is the "soykaf talked about in Buddhism" is usually incompatible with how people into "Tulpas" on the internet would explain them. So something is wrong, regardless of if what new age Tulpa stuff claims is possible/real.

Some time in past I have spoken to other people's tulpas of course not directly. It does actually feel like talking to a different person rather than just someone putting on an act even though I know it's like just a subset of themselves but considering how the brain can have regions act independently I do think some degree of autonomy can exist.
