I recently started taking CBD to help with sleeping and I've been having intense dreams tough not nightmares per se.
I even had one where I ended up doubting whether reality was the dream and the dream reality.
Are these things normal?

Sometimes, it's more that they became more intense for lack of a better word.
Like somebody dialed up the contrast or something.

Cannabis (idk if cbd or thc) is proven by science and my own experience that if you smoke it right before or even between sleeping(in the night i mean), can vastly increase dream intensity.
Doubting reality on weed is kinda a strong effect but not entirely unexpected in my experience.

Yes. Drugs in general helps you to "unlock" soykaf when it comes to your dreams and mind in general. Like, you are altering your mind with it. Your dreams will be affected depending on the drug.
