I have very little dream recall in meatspace, but often in dreamspace I find myself recalling earlier dreams, from within the dream itself. It's hard to explain but I can "remember that I remembered" when I wake up (and as it fades I can't remember what I remembered; only that I remembered).
It's like I remember not only the dream location but also what happened there earlier, in past dreams.
It's got me thinking - can we recall moments from our day in waking life from inside our dreams? Or is there a barrier, two streams of experience where you can only recall moments from one while inside the other? Or at least have great difficulty recalling across the barrier?

Sounds interesting, I don't think I've ever been able to recall a dream from inside of a dream but I guess it doesn't sound impossible. Are your dreams quite lucid?

I'm fresh from a dream where jellyfish people invaded and did gruesome things to everyone. They released a necrotic gas that ate you alive so we sheltered us in a glass bunker and then they just came and tentacle-drilled your brain, I suppose to eat it. It was all in a comical tone a-la Mars Attacks and a lot of humans in the dream were dressed up as if for halloween.

Me and the last survivor then woke up and the aliens has left, so we immediately went to the door (my apartment's door) which was left open, I tried to close and lock it but the lock was half destroyed, and turning the key made a lot of noise. The guy started crying while I fiddled with the keys.

Also - to stay on topic - I definitely remember doing that, but it's very rare and it's got that dream soup flavor, as in the events you remember are just as twisted as the dream itself.

Random dream recall inside dreams is something I've both read about and experienced regularly.

Yeah I get that a lot as well, like remembering people, places and events from previous dreams, or even just picking up where they left off.
There's even whole places with a particular geography to the dreamworld that I keep going back to since I can remember.
And I have pretty decent dream recall, and in dreams I can usually remember things from the meatworld, as long as it's not the particular type of dream where that wouldn't make sense (eg one that takes place in an alternate reality for example), so I don't really agree with your theory
