Nightmares

Project 2501 · 2019-06-20 12:29
Hey Lainzzz, I think my nightmares are weird. They inspire a damp fear beyond all but a coal doom reasonate. Awakening, not hypercardiating, blood isn't screaming an emotive edge, just stating through it's clystral knowledge, upto, throttled at, the back of my neck. Only perponderance yeilds an, always, succinct, novel generality. I wish I had legitimate nightmares. I've had few through my life, the last were similarly muted, but not without adrenalism, no novelty. I'm not stupid, I know knowing others' nightmares won't inspire, but curiously: what are your? Maybe analyzing the mechanism of their emergence could help undamp that passion.

You have an extremely dense and colorful vocabulary for discussing your dream scapes. I will take your challenge oneiromancer. A nightmare I have had recently had to do with time. The dream began with the loud sound of my heartbeat, throbbing in my ears, slowly the throbbing is overcome by a loud mechanical ticking like the sound a 7n42 seiko watch makes. I cant see anything, but flashes of random color and vaguely humanoid shapes, that flex and morph, like images seen through a glass bottle, slowly into the face of the watch I wear daily. A seiko 7n42. At this stage the ticking gets even louder, like standing next to a forging hammer when it is striking. Each tick is painfully loud and leaves my ears ringing. Eventually I go deaf, or the watch stops, or something, I cannot tell exactly what, but the sound muffles and becomes arrhythmic and I find the edges of the darkness on my vision receding to reveal a barren landscape, of pure white salt. The few sparse bushes in the landscape are terrifying to me, their shapes seem impossible and look like my own mutilated limbs and bodies stuck together with silly putty when I stare at them but seem like regular mesquite bushes when I am not looking directly at them. The sun is bright and hot, way too hot, so hot in fact, that I start to feel a deep burning sensation like I have been wrapped in the feeling of burning my hand on a black car door handle. Then, I wake up...

My nightmares tend to play on my regrets and insecurities rather than my phobias. I have abandonment issues and social anxiety and my "nightmares" usually involve people (or ideas of people) I feel attached to spending time with me, only to disappear as soon as I awake and am left with a bitter and cold emotion. Sometimes these people within my dreams grow cold and distant as I try to interact with them, and I am left hopeless to witness the change. The resulting loneliness deeply unsettles me. I do consider these nightmares legitimate. Simply because my existential issues are triggered instead of my survival instincts does not demote the importance of these dreams. I believe that even without the analysis that usually follows my dreams this experience would be equally disturbing to me. I tend to treat them as visions into parts of my emotionality that I have chosen to suppress in my daily life.

I forget who it was that said you aren't terrorized by the apparition you see in a dream. You feel terror already and the dream manifests an apparition to explain it. Many of my own nightmares are quite mundane if I put them to words but the feeling is one of dread. It's like those youtubes where they take the trailer from a romcom or the opening credits of a sitcom and put dark music to it. Instead of being cozy or cute, the new version is creepy, even perverse. My bad dreams are almost like that.

I had a dream, that I was in a park, carrying a thing (didn't, and don't, know what) for a friend (don't recall knowing who). but the park was sparsely becoming surrounded by cops, who were to capture someone else who was in that park, they were setting up a perimeter, but I saw a hole in it, and, rather than doing the right thing and silently leaving through the hole in their perimeter, I started berating the nearest police officer to that hole in their perimeter that they were making a mistake by leaving open a hole in their perimeter, which drew their attention to me, and to the hole in their perimeter. They, in closing the hole in the perimeter, made the hole in the perimeter smaller, but for some reason, when apprehending me, they left me on the outside of the perimeter. I made two mistakes in one action, and they still didn't prevent me from getting away. I awoke, and thought to myself, in repettition of the acknowledgement of my mistake in the interaction with the police officer, when I see an out of a bad situation, silently take the out: I can notify whoever of their error when I'm safe..

Generally my nightmares are like >>2190 descibes, although when I was younger they played with my phobias. However recently I haven't had any nightmares. The most recent I can remember does not follow any of this, and goes like this: I has a false awakening. Over my bed there is a window, and for some reason the window was opened. I looked at the window and saw a silhouette of a demon, and bright red eyes looking at me. Although the demon did look a little scary, I do not remember having any phobia that corresponds to that. But when I looked at him, my body froze in fear and I felt an excruciating pain running through my entire body. This lasted for about 10 seconds. Although it happened before, it is pretty rare for dreams to cause me physical pain, and generally when they do it's not because of things that could really cause pain such as getting stabbed, et cetera.

I get a lot of nightmares. There's a few that I don't think I could ever forget. One had a monster with a white face made out of cubes and his body was made out of tar. He was coming to get me and every time he touched me the tar slowed me down more and more. If I stopped moving he would get me I kept thinking. It got harder and harder to struggle and when I had woken up I fell out of bed and my heart was hurting it raced so hard.

Nightmares are surreal instances of what feel like legitimate danger. I like to view dreams like art pieces because they hold about as much the same impact on you.

Been self isolated for 18 days now, all my dreams are nightmares, all of them involve someone i know. Dreams are also intensely vivid I'm a bit worried about my subconscious... I'm also attempting a sleep reset tonight, due to my sleep schedule being out of wack. going to bed at 4 every night. Should i explain the "stories" in some of the dreams?
Pris · 2020-04-08 12:55
I remember having vivid nightmares as a child and waking up crying every single night for probably about 2 months. Nevertheless I have almost no recollection of what I dreamt about. Otherwise I only really remember 2 instances of interesting nightmares. In the first case I was fighting myself but with red eyes (it was more like a demon that had taken my appearance). The part that freaked me out came after that. I woke up covered in cold sweat and immediately put the blanket over my face to hide (I was still a child back then) and as I started to calm down realising that it was just a bad dream I saw the silhoette of my head through the blanket. It was morning and at the time I had a window facing my bed where light could come in from. It was a very hot summer so my blanket was thin enough that i could clearly makeout my own shape behind it. I just looked away terrified and a moment later it was gone. I guess you could call that a 'false awakening' but the thing is I dont remember waking up a second time after that so I guess it was simply my mind still not working properly after having just woken up. It's not that scary really but I was little and that has stayed with me since then. Even more so because I always felt that there was some deeper meaning behind it.
J.C. Denton · 2020-04-08 13:09
>>3060 The second one that I can remember was less of a nightmare and more of just a feeling of true despair or something like despair. My brain was somehow connected with the mind of a girl which I viewed in 3rd person. It was more like we simply shared sensations rather than thoughts. She was standing infront of a museum next to a fountain in the early night with a couple of other people. She was dressed in an evangelion style suit but dark in color. Suddenly something fuarrrked happened to her and I felt the most intense anguish and despair that I can imagine. My vision went black and I woke up screaming. After that I just laid in a fetus position trembling for about 10 minutes until I could get a grip after that pure shock. Never felt a more intense feeling than that in my life - it was like my whole mind just froze in pure anguish, as if someone gave me an electrical shock that wiped all semblence of coherent thought and left just pain.

Share your stories, I've been having a lot of nightmares and I am trying to see if there is a common thread.
Hagbard Celine · 2020-04-30 04:48
>>2186 >I know knowing others' nightmares won't inspire you'd be surprised what can inspire a dream. It's good you're not betting too hard on this thread, but don't rule it out entirely. >mechanism of their emergence ok, I'll give context for mine. I'm like you in that I don't usually have typical nightmares. my negative dreams are usually just something mildly to moderately unpleasant, I'm usually the observer, but occasionally I'm doing the unpleasant thing while wondering why I'm doing something I don't like. people in my dreams in recent years underreact to these things, but when I was a child they used to wildly overreact. however, in a nightmare I had a few weeks ago it was more like the stereotypical ones people describe. I'm this anon from the dream thread >>3179 and the thing my dreams do where they magically give me clues on what to do next played a big role in this nightmare. I can't think of what would have triggered this, I had a better than average evening with people who are important to me. I fell asleep on the couch instead of in my bed, but it's comfortable enough and I do that semi-often without ever having nightmares. >my nightmare I was going on a walk in a neighborhood that was like a composite of the last few neighborhoods I've lived in, and after a short while I stopped in front of a house where kids must have lived, and there was a small gazebo in the front yard, which is highly unusual in my area. there were chalk drawings on the sidewalk, but they were nondescript and not really important, but I knelt down to study them anyway. when I stopped focusing on my surroundings, the sky went gray and the light dimmed almost like a thunderstorm was coming. I was overcome with a flood of negative emotions; malice, dread, fear. I knew nothing was behind me but I also knew if I moved a muscle I would be in immediate, serious danger. still staring at the sidewalk I could see in my mind's eye that a woman was being raped and murdered somewhere relatively close, maybe a block or two away opposite the direction I was facing. her hair was blonde and in worn in curls, she had a red dress on. I saw the image of a hand gripping a knife. I saw an image of dark red blood, but not on a body or the ground, just floating in a void. the killer's features were obscured. strangely, the woman was underreacting and saying (not screaming) something along the lines of "stop, I don't want this" or "I'm not really enjoying this." but I still felt primal fear coming from her. I unconsciously tried to reach out and sense some detail about the killer like where precisely he was or what he looked like, but somehow he could tell what I was doing. normally this is just a feature of my dreams that happens on its own rather than some kind of detectable ESP thing, which made it even more alarming that he could sense me back. he shot back a non-verbal message that very clearly meant: I know that you know what I'm doing, and if you try to do anything before I'm done, I'll find you and kill you, and you won't be able to stop me. I already know who and where you are. the emotional overtones, the shock of being detected, and the sheer malice of the murderer left me shaken when I woke up. It didn't exactly feel "real," but it felt so significant that against my better judgement I expected to see a woman's bleeding corpse when I looked outside. Of course it was just the sun shining and birds singing, and no mention of any similar thing on the news, nothing whatsoever. it was sheer terror that left no trace but the memories, and now that the feelings have passed, I'm transfixed by the fact that it happened to begin with.
Jens Hansen · 2020-04-30 04:55
>>3063 I know somebody with a similar recurring dream, except it's his younger self doing the raping. he was molested by people his own age he trusted and has issues with self loathing, sadly

A few weeks ago, I had a strange nightmare which prompted me to start a dream journal: I was in a car garage and everything had to be painted the right color, except black, because I had to see the ghosts. I painted the floor the exact color as the ceiling to take out the patches of dark that were on the floor. But I could still see the ghosts. They were like blobs that took the color of the ceiling they're attatched, and they're almost perfect. You can tell where they are because they might miss the exact color in an exact location, like they might miss a line from the caution tape they're on. That's the only way to tell without letting them know you exist. But if you do see one, pretend they don't exist. If they open their eyes, then they know you are there, and you can't run away from them. Sometime in the dream, I was walking through a car garage with a low ceiling and no cars. I realized a ghost was there because there was this one strip of color that I painted on the floor that wasn't on the ceiling any more. I pretended not to notice it so that they wouldn't wake up, so I cacually walked to the elevator at the end of the room to go up. Right as elevator door was closing, I wanted to torment the it, and so I yelled out into the floor, "GHOST!" I felt it open its eyes, and make its way towards me, but the door closed before it could come in, and I was safe.

>>2186 One of the most horrifying dreams i've had of late was me waking up in my current room feeling a sense of fear. Bright white light shining through the blinds of my window. I suddenly had this feeling that i was not alone and began to panic, jumping out of bed. Felt alot of vibration inside me and became incredibly disoriented, like being crossfaded with more loss of muscle control. Eventually collapsing infront of my bookshelf freaking out. Then promptly woke up in a cold sweat. Weird dream, freaked me the fuarrrk out for a few weeks, especially when i had 2 more that were very similar, hopefully just dreams and not ayys.

>>2927 A lot of those "words" aren't even real words but rather neologisms. >Reasonate [sic] Misspelling of resonate? >Hypercardiating [sic] Not a word. If I had to guess, causing rapid heart rate. Hyper meaning abnormally high, cardi coming from cardio meaning heart. >Clystral [sic] Not a word. Best guess I have is clear. Clyst is an old Scottish word for clear stream of water. >Perponderance [sic] Misspelling of preponderance. >Adrenalism [sic] Not a word. Best guess: causing the production of adrenaline. >Undamp [sic] Elision of undampen which is technically a word. Better words in this case might be inspire, arouse, or simulate. (Keep your mind out of the gutter) The rest are real words but uncommonly used because they're soykaf (preponderance being the worst instance here). It's also kinda word salad, queer words with meanings strung together in a way that doesn't make inherent sense (ex. "Ovum baggage gourmamdized sousifiedly" instead of "eggs eaten sloppily"). Probably made sense to OP while writing it even if she was trying to be cryptic but doesn't make good sense to anybody else.

>>5814 To further clarify, as is self evident here, thesaurisizing every word you were going to use into the most obscure or weird synonym you can find ultimately both denigrates meaning and intelligibility. It's bad! The proper use of a thesaurus is to find more concise terminology (ex. "savor" instead of "drink" in the case of enjoying a fine wine) and reducing repetition. Using them to be cryptic and mysterious makes me sad :(

my nightmares are always the same thing im in bed and there is a banging on my door of some one trying to get in i try to get up but i cant control my body and i just stumble around. eventually i start to scream and thrash which wakes me up except then i feel a rising fear in my stomach and after a few minutes i will sometimes see a face at a window before the banging starts again. this repeats usually four or five times before i properly wake
