Pain in dreams

Macie Lightfoot · 2019-05-30 15:10
Anyone else feel physical pain in dreams? Last night I got stabbed in a dream and I felt a physical pain in my stomach, in the past I've felt more abstract but more intense pain in dreams. I once dreamed there were zeppelins fighting above me or around me, and I was insanely physically uncomfortable and hurt
Chani · 2019-05-30 20:00
The only time I get that, I wake up and something was actually hurting and that was what caused the dream to happen. I feel intense cold in dreams about once a year though, when it isn't cold in my bed.

>>2126 in my case i have observed the opposite: stimuli from reality translating into the dreams i watch before i wake up some obnoxious sound in my dream turns out to be from outside stomach pain in dream turns out to be actuall pain that somehow got to the dream My biggest fascination however are the dreams i have when im with high fever. They are extremely absurd and vivid af. I dont know if its the fever affecting the dreams somehow or if the constant waking up from the uneasy feverish sleep allows the conscious a better look at dreams that would otherwise go unoticed

>>2126 I know exactly what you're talking about. I still vividly remember a dream from when I was a kid wherein I got stabbed in the stomach. It felt almost like getting punched, but I still felt the pain even after waking up. Weird soykaf.

>>2136 having dreams with a fever are wild, even when I'm just trying to sleep it's very surreal and weird to experience. however the pain I experience in dream is gone when I've woken up and doesn't seem to be affected by the real world, which is strange. maybe it's just my body remembering pain

I often dream about dying in a nuclear blast. I see light, feel intense burning and wake up. Once or twice I felt like the burning sensation lingered on after I woke up.

>>2126 I have exploding head syndrome, which is caused by long-term sleep deprivation. Sometimes when I go to sleep, my brain 'shuts down' in the wrong order and I'm actually conscious and dreaming. Sometimes I feel like, an uncomfortable 'pressure' on parts of my body, that starts out easy and becomes crushing, other times it feels like something is cutting me open. Sometimes as well, I will be dreaming, and have the belief that I am not breathing properly, and have to wake myself up by finding a body part that I can, in the dream 'tug' at (not quite what it is but that's kind of what it feels like), and then tug at it for all it's worth until I am awake. This only really happens when I get very little sleep. So. Get your sleep kids, otherwise you'll give yourself EHS and be unable to get to sleep even when you *want* to sleep.

Sometimes I just dream about suffocation or something like that, and wake up feeling pain. I feel you, it is desesperating.

I have this a fair bit. I'll often find myself waking up after being stabbed in a dream and I'm actually clenching or digging my nails into the part where I got stabbed in my dream, to the point where it actually leaves marks/hurts. I've always had very intense nightmares though and sleep walking so it's probably related to that.

I don't know, probably a headache is the most i feel in pain. But i mean a real headache.
Jackson Gayle · 2019-06-30 12:33
Generally I do not feel pain from physical damage in dreams, so when I am not sure whether I'm dreaming or not I just bite my right hand. However, sometimes I do feel physical pain from nightmares. I remember one night I had a really short nightmare, where I had a false awakening, my window was open, and there was a shadow creature staring at me from the window. It was horrifying, the creature stared at me for what seemed like 10-15 seconds and for the entire duration I felt an insane amount of pain through my whole body.

I dreamed a few times about breaking my back, woke up every time and my back actually hurt for a short time. Probably just cause I moved too fast in panic.

>>2162 >>2163 Sounds like sleep apnea. You really should get that checked out
Demeere · 2019-08-11 15:15
>>2162 just standard sleep paralysis to me lol, especially when you say it happens to you with little sleep : your body goes directly into REM, and one of the technique for inducing it is waking up in REM with an alarm clock and then lying down, exactly what you are doing. you should embrace it and enter your sleep quietly, and it will transform into a lucid dream if you focus hard enough, good luck!

same guy, as for me, when I fall asleep, usually in quiet areas, when I'm falling asleep, the sound made by my tingling ears forms into a white substance, like a bomb in front of my eyes, and any move will make the bomb "explodes", usually resulting in a effect resembling getting hit by a flashbang lol I even remember my brain hallucinating a flashbang before hearing the sound, you cope with it through calm and meditation, you need to understand what's happening to you in those situations. I usually cope with it by always prioritizing sleeping in a quite environment to cope with it that being said, I'm in a night bus and have to work tomorrow, and I'm down by 8h hours of sleep already so RIP me!

Yeah. I get really severe pain during my dreams. Sometimes I will wake up and the pain will still be there for a few minutes. Getting disemboweled, dismembered, stabbed, shot, eyes gouged out, insects burrowing into my body, they all feel real. Even one time I got burned by a fire and it felt so real I burned myself with a fire when I woke up to check and it did feel exactly the same. It's not right. Every night these nightmares it's torture.

I had a dream about me sliting my wrists and just lying on my bed staring at the ceiling and honestly it really hurt. Woke up, sat up, and just sat there staring at my hands for like 10 minutes
Meddler · 2020-06-10 15:05
As I don't know if I dream because it was most definitely me lost in thoughts once waking up or in plain day. But I did get many of them as getting stung by multiple bees in the back as I felt each and single one of them which made me curl up in bed in pain. Another one was me biting a knife which went between my front teeth tightly making my mouth hurt for almost half an hour. What I said about that earlier is that I'm awake and very conscious of my surroundings more or so like hearing and knowing I'm not sleeping, I wonder what that could be.

>>2843 i think you need to look into getting a script for Paroxetin my dude
Spike Spiegel · 2021-02-27 05:06
Yes, I do feel pain sometimes too, but after I wake up the pain simply fades away and all left is confusion about what happened.
Shogun · 2021-02-27 06:02
I think I had a dream where I was stabbed in the leg, but it wasn't really pain, it was more of a numbness. I experience no pain in dreams. I use it as an indicator to verify that I'm dreaming so then I have a lucid dream. I've taken my arm and swung it at the edges of tables (in my dreams) and there's no pain whatsoever. It's hard to believe, but it's a good enough test. That in addition to other weird things in the dream like cars hanging from trees like Jurassic Park.
