violent behavior in dreams

Delilah · 2018-10-09 21:40
First off I don't normally put much stock in dreams, but one I had recently has spooked me a little bit. Long story short, somebody (in my dream) that I'm very close to (in real life) did something that upset me so bad that I ended up killing them. Like I felt something snap inside me and started hitting them and just didn't stop. Not very interesting in itself, but the problem is the dream was so real; so real that I woke up and didn't realise it was a dream. I didn't leave my room because I knew that their corpse would be in the hall (where everything happened) and I couldn't stomach that. Obviously everything turned out fine, but given how real it felt, it made me wonder if something like that could happen in waking consciousness? That I could just flip out like that and lose control? I've never been a particularly violent person, but I do get angry very easily. My emotional states in dreams are also often very similar to my waking ones, and my behavior in dreams is basically the same as in real life. Should I be worried?

>>1624 Probably not, but you might have depression. Just a dumb guess...
Drifter · 2018-10-12 01:27
>>1624 As I understand it, assuming fairly standard empathy, etc., it's nothing to worry about, but worrying about it excessively can suggest OCD. I once heard about a guy who became obsessed with and disturbed by incredibly vivid imaginings of hurting people after watching the film City of God. He eventually went to a therapist who convinced him that he wouldn't actually hurt anyone by having him hold a knife to his loved one's neck. If your brain suggests something and you feel revulsion toward the suggested idea, then this suggests that the system is working within acceptable limits. It's the feeling of an idea bouncing off of a barrier to action.

>>1629 how did you reach that conclusion I mean you;re not wrong

>>1632 Violence is usually a way (or the last way) we have to express feelings we can't otherwise express or that we don't (fully) understand. Depression produces a host of other problems as well. Some kinds of depressions develop because of how we feel we are unable to control certain aspects of our lives. And we don't know of a solution to fix that problem. That feeling makes us feel weak, self-absorbed, etc and sometimes it runs into violence as well. Sometimes not through actions but thoughts. You should try meditation sometime, but you shouldn't replace it with medication if you're currently on them. You're one of us.

>>1630 Not OP but I'm starting to feel less and less revulsion and I'm not sure what to think about that. Though if I went through with it, it would prove that I'm not worth the air I breathe, and everyone else was right not to associate with me. And that would make me unbearably lonely.

i've been having recurring dreams lately where i end up killing someone and then going on a killing spree while trying to conceal it from my friends and family. almost every night. they've been going into detail too, with long parts of them being about me destroying/hiding the body and the anxiety i feel about the bodies being close to me when i'm talking to people who don't know. i don't really know what to do about it, i don't see myself doing that kind of soykaf any time soon but they're troubling and i obviously can't talk to anyone in real life about them.

>>1624 I used to dream about beating up babies. I don't like the thought but being able to beat something to death felt pretty satisfying until I realized what I had done (after waking up).

I have recurrent violent dreams. I sometimes dream of pouring acid over some constrained person's face I don't know, or beating someone with a stick, or being chased down by a mob and beaten until awaken. I dreamed about being stabbed in the guts at the city plaza where I lived. I dreamed about someone shot dead right in front of me. I dreamed about torture, and I witnessed all of it. It's pretty fuarrrked up feeling when you feel the knife and the cuts right after you woke up on bed.

A couple of times it was stabbing someone in self defense. Another time it was discovering the skeletons in a loved one's freezer. Most recently I had a strange dream where I crushed tiny people's bodies, adult-like skeletons in the palm of my hand, breaking ribs and picking off gore, then storing the bloody remains in a cloth. All were accompanied by an almost choking feeling of dread throughout and made me paranoid afterwards. >>1702 >It's pretty fuarrrked up feeling when you feel the knife and the cuts right after you woke up on bed. It's unreal. I've felt this but I was the one with the knife. For a long time I could feel it in my hand and the way it went into the flesh. After the crushing dream I could feel the little broken bones in my fingers. I hate sleeping.

I usually have violent, they're not even nightmares anymore I guess. In dreams I usually massacre multiple people I know or seen somewhere, they can be family, classmates, anyone, boy, girl, old, young, sometimes myself, with different weapons, on different places, different lights and everything is different. The only returning fact is murder. I have them since the third year of grade school, which was the time I started to get used to bullying after mom told me to stay quite and endure. I'm calm other than that, but I guess the constant stress went on my nerves and that's why I often get those dreams and sometimes thoughts on beating the soykaf out of random people I see

>>1624 Dreams to be 100% pure nonsense which shouldn't be taken very seriously, but they can also imply of something going on in your mind, if I had to have a guess you might be having issues with that person, as long as you're a sane human being you won't freak out and murder somebody because it happened in your dream or something like that, and you seem pretty sane to me.

>>1624 Great news! The thing I dreamt about actually happened, and I didn't try and kill them!
Just myself.
I've been having recurring dreams of people getting punched in the nose, breaking it. It always bends in a fuarrrked up way that makes me feel particularly uneasy, especially in the ones where I'm punching.

I have had those in my late teens. Just pure violent dreams where I recall enjoying brutally murdering people with great detail. When I woke up I felt the sense of both disgust and satisfaction. It was really weird.
Case · 2020-07-15 19:44
It's pretty rare for me to have violent dreams, but there was a time in my teens when I frequently dreamed about me eye gouging someone else, being that person a teenager or an adult. I felt nothing even after waking up, and that was really uncommon, since I generally feel guilty or merciful on other violent (or almost violent) dreams.
C2N14 · 2020-07-15 21:07
Is anyone else here a lucid dreamer? I almost always have lucid dreams, and while it's cool to be in control in my dreams I get worried that will make them boring (since randomness in dreams is what makes them so cool and unique), does anyone here have the same kind of experiences being kind of a chronic lucid dreamer?
Cat Mother · 2022-03-12 22:05
I frequently have nightmares about getting suffocated by other people
Faye Valentine · 2022-03-24 12:07
I had a dream about pushing a massive boxcutter into someone's neck. Not sure why, but it seems after I meditate at night I get violent dreams. That or I always get violent dreams and I'm just lucid enough to remember if I meditate at night. I was so worried that these dreams make me a bad person in the beginning, but they never stopped and I do have a chemical imbalance in my brain so that's probably what it is. The violence is very satisfying whether I'm doing it or whether someone is doing it to someone else. I've accepted it at this point. I think a fuarrrked up brain can easily turn violent. Fortunately it's only in my dreams. Not everyone is so lucky.
