Sorry for my stupid first post. Let me try again.
Anyways, does anyone else have like, a specific building or facility that they keep coming back to in dreams? For me it's sort of shape-shifting and constantly growing new extensions. But somehow every time I there I recognize it as somehow the "same place as before". Kind of like how our bodies are constantly replacing cells but we still remain the same whole.
I hate that building in my dreams though. It's always an imposing and anxiety-provoking place.

leave the name field empty, newfrend
There's this one large water processing facility sort of thing in many of my dreams that acts as a village in some of them. Sometimes I hate the place and it seems depressing, other times it seems amazing and fuarrrking cool. Really it depends on the rest of the dream.

If you insist; it wasn't clear to my if 100% anon was part of the culture here or not. The generated names aren't distinguished from chosen names so I don't know who's actually posting as anon or not. I like it though.
The building in my dreams (it's almost like an arcology) often has cool things about it, but dreams there always take some kind of dark, often paranoid turn.

Do you keep a dream diary? I often have the feeling of meeting same people and visiting same places after I wake up. After some thought processing they turn out to be a few consecutive dreams, not something I've dreamed about long time ago, or so I suppose they are.

having a "hub world" in your dreams actually seems pretty common. as are "labyrinth" dreamscapes, which serve a similar function, but they're usually more hostile and confusing. some common one's i've heard people mention: hedge maze, caves, kowloon-style cityscape, forests... there's also this idea of "landmarks", which are structures that you frequently encounter in different locations across multiple dreams. for example, my friend has a cool landmark that he describes as an idyllic english cottage with a garden.
for me, it's usually a temperate pine forest with subtle fantasy elements. i'll be dreaming about something unrelated and eventually encounter a forest. i go into the forest and gradually realize that it isn't just any forest, it's *the* forest. of course, when you have a thought like that in a dream, the dream changes to reflect it. it has a couple "landmarks" that i can usually find if i specifically look for them. the only one i can remember right now is a gentle hill in a clearing covered in tall green grass. very pretty. i don't really know what the point of it is, but i'm usually alone when i find it, and i sometimes meet new characters when i visit it.
as for labyrinths, the most common one for me is long, wide hallways full of people (a bit like the "subway" or "number world" sections of yume nikki). i call it "the infinite shopping mall": an ambiguous combination of an airport, mall, subway station, hotel, museum, etc. but without any of the main defining features. just the hallways and some small kiosks. more of a purgatory atmosphere than a hostile one.
in darker dreams, i also frequently find myself in a labyrinth of underground tunnels (i call it "the warren"). the tunnels are much more varied and confusing than the shopping mall. i guess the default tunnels are crude mine shafts, but there are almost always subway tunnels, basements, caves, dry sewers, fallout-style vaults, etc. unlike the mall, i don't spend much time in the actual tunnels. they mostly function to connect illogical dream nodes together. these nodes can be anything, although things that could logically be underground are more common.
there's probably others i can't remember at the moment... i used to get city streets pretty often. also, i vaguely remember there being a desert hub world when i was a kid, but that one was a little different because it was more open.

For a while, there used to be a mall.
Every couple of months or so, I'd dream about it, and it'd be different every time. What's constant, though, is how to get there. You'd have to go through a door at the bottom of my basement stair case, and upon stepping through, you'd be transported to a much smaller room with the same walls and flooring as the basement. Thing is, though, is that the whole thing's kind of a labyrinth in and of itself. Every room only had two doors--the one you came through and the one on the opposite wall. You'd just have to keep trying doors and hope your intent is strong enough to take you where you want to go. I remember that there were some occupied rooms you could find, most were empty but some had people who'd set the place up as their own private demesne.
Anyways, the mall itself is big. Like 4 or 5 floors. The first time I went there all the storefronts were empty, and no one was really milling around, but the labyrinth was full. The second time, the place was packed. There were all sorts of colorful banners hanging from the roof, but I don't remember if they ever meant anything. Third time, I finally managed to cover enough ground to find the front door. Turns out it opened up onto a boardwalk! Kinda crazy, considering I watched it snow from a huge window the first time I was there.
I kinda miss the place, now. Haven't been there in a while.

holy soykaf you just reminded me of something similar that used to happen in my dreams as a kid. i'd go down into my basement, which looked fairly normal except there would be tunnels in two of the walls. i'd go through one of them, and arrive at another mostly identical basement, like a hall of mirrors. this would keep up for a while until i eventually ended up... somewhere. i don't actually remember what happens after that. i'm not even sure it was always the same place. what i do vividly remember is being extremely frustrated every time it happened, to the point where i would deliberately wake myself up so that i didn't have to deal with it. things like that happened so often that i actually had a procedure for it. i would sit down on a chair and close my eyes. then i'd concentrate really hard on opening my real eyes. it worked pretty reliably until i figured out that i could jump off things to wake up.

I don't keep a dream diary but I've been meaning to get in the habit. I think OP is sort of motivated by that but I kinda wanted to talk out loud with people about it first. I've very inspired by the replies so far--very relatable.

When I was young, I had a museum. It was one of those hands on sciencey ones, like the exploratorium, except it was usually pretty twisted. Lots of exhibits were made of people. It was never frightening, though. Also, it was absolutely enormous; it felt like it was an entire city block, with multiple basements just as large. Now, when I dream, there's no place I go regularly.

I did always "spawn" into a huge mansion back when I was a child. I always found the same pearl white skinned, platinum blonde, blue eyed girl sitting in a throne in the middle of one of the rooms. She always stared at me in a dilligent, serene yet awkward manner, as if I was meant to feel hostility in case I did anything wrong, and tranquility in case I didn't. It was like... natural. It felt natural. I just can describe it with "natural".

I have a school and house that have stayed relatively the same for as long as I can remember. I've never seen the house nor the school in reality, they only exist in my head.
Unspecified · 2018-06-07 09:13
I have a couple.
An ancient, decaying graveyard that covers a city block, with a huge barn-like spireless church in the middle. Inside it's dark and quiet and empty, but when you go up stairs it becomes a vertiginous spider-web of worm-eaten, powder-dry beams and landings.
A small country town with a single-track railway station, on top of rolling green hills split by high tension lines, suburban houses with big back yards and a single short street of shops, and a video store with a spinning wire rack of VHS zombie movies.
An odd sort of stone temple in a green garden by a river with two towers flanking a double flight of steps down to an underground area, all polished marble and brass, with a massive open book in a locked glass display case.
A run-down wooden house at the bottom of a steep driveway, overlooking a ravine.
All these places have an eerie, precipitous air about them, like the beginning of a horror film, before you know what kind of horror film it's going to be...

Ive found a delapitated, nature-retaken version of my old elementsry school more than a few times. It was completely sqallowed by think veg growth like some sort of ancient ruin. Vines and soykaf, both stair wells were collapsed on themselves but we could still climb up to the second floor. It was me as a small child and four or five other munchkins all running around like bear cubs

The corridors of my workplace, somehow it almost exclusively night in my dreams. The sky is not black, it is the eigengrau you see when you close your eyes. Yet people appear to as if they were in sunlight. Sometimes I would walk around the building for hours unsure what to do, other times I'd be running for my life. Then I frequently see trainstations and public transportation. In my dreams I'm trapped at the two places I hate the most.

Oof, a facility is a great way to put it. I used to have these recurring dreams where I was going to the dentist, but the outside looked like some sort of industrial complex. It was a pretty featureless white building with an air conditioner on the top and some large ducts running from that around the roof. There were two different blocks, the one of the left was smaller than the one on the right, and I don't quite remember where the entrance was. It had a pretty large fence around it.
The interior looked like my own house, except the walls were lined with lockers. One of them always said "Do Not Open" in bold, underlined, red graffiti lettering and I always opened it. It teleported everyone out of the building and bad stuff(tm) would happen.
I haven't been there since I was a kid, though.
Masami Eiri · 2018-09-17 10:27
my old high school, a lot of bad things happened to me there and even though it was so long ago everything still feels like it happened yesterday in my mind. it could look different with escalators and elevators but it'd still have those vibes of my old school.
another place is my grandmas apartment, i havent been there since i was a child and it probably looks different by now since she passed but its a place i wind up going to a lot. i never see her there, it's always other people. surprisingly it always looks the same if i visit it in a dream.
Neo · 2018-10-28 15:09
Yes , as of recently , a hotel.
So far it has been the different hotel each time but the dreamtheme is similar.
I'm hoping that tonight I would visit the place again.

The elementary school I went to as a kid. Specifically in the field, on an overcast day. There are no kids, its quiet. I can feel the cool morning air.
This is the only dream I am aware of where I can feel the temperature. Its pretty common for my dreams to be overcast and I almost never dream about other people. Any insight into those things?

i dont have a "spot" as i do not write down my dreams but i been to the exact place that you described "The elementary school I went to as a kid. Specifically in the field, on an overcast day. There are no kids, its quiet. I can feel the cool morning air." i have been there several times. maybe i should start writing down my dreams.

as far as recurring buildings go, the only recurring one is my high school, but the dream always expands it to be enormous, to where it's the size of a college campus, way larger than it is irl
what's weird is that most dreams I have that happen in this huge version of my high school never have anything to do with school. Dreams where it's supposed to be a school setting always happen in middle school for me for some reason, with the middle school being the middle school I went to, but almost completely unaltered as far as the building goes
Void · 2019-05-06 10:09
I used to have recurrent dreams where I was in a dark place, and there was a very tall white building with no windows, and a lift. I always entered. And every floor was a different thing. Sometimes it was pleasant, and other times, it was a nightmare. You didn't know what was going to happen. I used to get up when the lift fell from the highest floor.
Shogun · 2019-06-30 15:10
Yes, essentially what I imagined my 1st year university accommodation would look like before I'd been there. It's cropped up quite a few times now. The general area has a grassy bank by a footpath, which stretches very far, and is very straight.
The Plague · 2019-11-28 11:42
My dreams can be "mapped out", they follow a little section of a mix of both irl locations & dream locations
Quite prominently, I'm sometimes in two locations that I go to
They're both stores, and they're both in the same setup as when I was a small child, they've never really changed for some reason, but I'd glad, I like they way they looked
The dream-locations are also dream versions too, they're their own look, but heavily based off of the places
Many places in my dreams are memories from my early life, I don't really know exactly why other than it being very "impressioning", but they really just haven't changed though, my subconscious seems to have a good memory of the dreams themselves
My dreams are always very good looking too, very high quality, kinda like how things look in media or wealthy facilities & neighborhoods, everything tends to just be quite beautiful
I'm usually never outside either, and when I am, its never anything rural or wild
On the side of feelings, in my dreams, its really nothing much, I don't feel much at all in them; but when I think about my dreams I feel longing, I want to go back to them, to explore, to see what I can't anymore
Most of the time I am alone in my dreams
Jens Hansen · 2019-12-04 06:42
I have a whole city. First is my house and multiple versions of it, sometimes there's no light sometimes is pale blue.
Then the outside, same thing, there are narrow desolated streets, some times they are dark sometimes they are snowy, and there's always this one particular building that's a slaughterhouse and for some reason whenever I dream about it im drawn towards it and end up getting brutally killed.
Nell · 2019-12-07 18:03
Yeah there's a few recurring places for me.
Not just buildings, but also villages with a certain geography to them, and my own village is different from its real life counterpart in a few subtle yet somewhat consistent ways.
