Tulpamancy thread?

Six · 2017-11-07 01:06
Anyone else know about tulpamancy, I just found out about it last week. It's basically where you create another person in your head. According to https://tulpa.io a tulpa is "a sentient and autonomous mental companion. Tulpas are–or resemble to an indistinguishable point–a second consciousness coinhabiting a brain with their creator." Anyone here have a tulpa? If so, please share your story. I'm interested in how having another person in your head might be like.

I won't pretend fuarrrking with your own head is safe. It's not, it's playing with fire and sooner or later you will get burned. Still, I regret nothing and relatively speaking tulpamancy is quite safe.

>>703 While it might not entirely be a method of inducing schizophrenia, It certainly seems to bear some semblance to the systematic introduction of multiple personalities. http://www.oocities.org/iona_m/Chaosophy2/MPDandCRP.html >It is possible that through dissociation, the person is attempting to heal in a self-organizing way, but the transformative process gets “stuck” at the classical stage of fragmentation, which then recreates itself through the dynamics of “infinite nesting” and “self-iteration.” Core psychological patterns reinforce themselves by filtering sensory information about the world and self, and automatically organizing the rest of experience around itself in a way that further supports the basic pattern. >In shifting identities MPDs experience uncommon dreams, in an intuitive, if misbegotten, attempt at growth and change. Experience of alters carries the aura of a ‘waking dream,’ where things appear real, but not quite ‘right.’ The Consciousness Restructuring Process fosters this healing attempt, rather than thwarting it. CRP facilitates inter-modal shifts between not only identities, but sensations, perceptions, emotions, imagery and behavior. Thus, it offers a ‘positive outlet’ for a process trying to self-correct the organism, but allowing that process to flow beyond the state of fragmentation to the fully undifferentiated experience for healing, dissolving old ‘basins of attraction’ in the mindscape. The psychophysical channels of both the limbic-hypothalamus system (seat of reward/punishment circuits) and the placebo effect are invoked to account for positive results. On the surface it might seem fun op, but in reality you are merely inducing a mental disorder for the sake of fun, which probably wont end well.

>>705 As a follow up, I would like to point out several things: 1. your article claims that tulpamancy is not inducing DID or schizo disorder, but the symptoms are similar enough that it could be considered such 2. Dissasociative personality disorder is not exclusively characterized by forgetting things about alternate personalities and persons, in fact some subjects report being able to communicate with their other selves, though they view them as completely separate entities. 2. self induced "trauma" or prolonged exposure to abnormal thought patterns can be jsut as damaging as experiencing trauma an example would be the development of hyperresponsivness that can cause behavior similar to PTSD (i.e. being on edge all the time can cause anxiety and other paranoid disorders) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25089937 https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-athletes-way/201301/cortisol-why-the-stress-hormone-is-public-enemy-no-1 on the other hand, what about using stress hormones as a performance enhancing stimulant (pic related)?

>>716 >Dissociative identity disorder and multiple personality disorder are also not the same thing. both are about 1 in 100 disorders, but one is more body based and the other is mind based, in schizophrenia you get it much the same way as diabetes, soem environmental factors trigger it, you might have the genes that can trigger it lying dormant, but with certain stimuli it will show up (i guess stress and trauma could be these) and once it shows up, there is no cure. DiD can be treated and possibly cured, as it is just a fractured self image that manifests itself as many people (this is me , and that is the not me who looks like me mental twin, but that is not me) all interacting in the same person although vastly different, sprit brain studies (post-lobotomy patients who had their corpus collosum severed) exhibited physical sighns of DiD because each half of the brain behaves independently on its own agenda (this is a direct result of the medical procedure and the brains failure to communicate). In some cases schizophrenia can also look like DiD, but not always, a case that may be a good candidate would be a sensible woman who checked herself into a mental care facility because the slutty lesbian alcoholic self was becoming a danger to her, but then the bad self convinced the doctor that she was cured assuming there was no trauma, something like schizophrenia could be to blame. Some types of DiD can even just be trauma, in the same way as people have overly responsive actions to triggers (think war vets afraid of fireworks who hide under tables) but instead of just taking a responsive action, the alternative personality is your responsive reaction (denial of reality- i can't have been raped it was clearly just that person who looked like me)

>>702 I do this almost every single night, never knew it had a name or anything specific to out of the ordinary. I've created entire communities and towns of people I've never seen before. Part of my belief system on at least the idea mostly would have to be we take in random people we pass by in the streets and stick them in our subconscious. For example, you ever pass by someone you've never met and say to yourself "Hey, they look familiar". I'm sure you have, just about everyone does unless you're locked up at home never to see anyone but the people there. Wonder if those cases can do it. It certainly would make a good test.

It is just learning your brain to think as more than person - nothing occult or insane, just has roots in eastern spirituality. If it was actual insanity, it would negatively impact people's lifes - which almost never occurs, even according to some studies: https://scholar.google.pl/scholar?q=tulpamancy+research&hl=pl&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart#d=gs_qabs&u=%23p%3Dti5RM9Vnq8IJ https://scholar.google.pl/scholar?hl=pl&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_vis=1&q=tulpamancy+research+veissiere&btnG=#d=gs_qabs&u=%23p%3DiVS2CKtzRmQJ If anything, it seems to have good impact on life and mental health, since large portion of people practicing it already has mental conditions. Anyway, obviously it can be dangerous, but only when you purposefuly make it harmful, which is obviously bad idea.

>>703 It's all just a giant LARP for kids, there's no schizophrenia involved. People love to play pretend especially on the internet. and especially younger people. It's the same as those kids who say they play D&D and have commissioned art of characters they daydream about and never play. It was the same with occultism and meme witchcraft in the 90s, ooohhh I tried an ouija board once, the table totally moved... everyone knows nothing happened but they play along because it's fun. Went too deep into Buddhist meditation and had a Kundalini awakening last summer after going through some forgotten trauma. I now have what you could call a tulpa or a spirit guide, except I didn't do anything about it. She's like a loving and protecting mother, so I symbolize her as White Tara, the Buddhist deity of love and compassion. While motherly in nature, she can be sexual too. I have a lot of sexual repression, and she's taken over my body a few times and done... things... Compared to her, I'm like an idiot son that does stupid stuff and gets hurt, but she makes it clear to me and wants me to be better. I love her though, even though I'm still an idiot. If I had to choose between 1 billion dollars or my current state, I'd choose this. The associated Kundalini is very powerful - people suddenly stare at me everywhere, I can sense energies and it's been protecting me from malevolent entities. It feels so powerful that I prefer to delegate its usage to her, since me trying to control it would be like a toddler trying to drive a truck. 1 year ago I was a rational-materialist-atheist who thought himself smart and clever. Now I think of myself as the biggest idiot in existence. I've known things that can't be put into words, so I practice in private, since it's useless to talk about it to anyone. When I asked her "Why me?", she said it's because I didn't seek anything when meditating, except to find more compassion, since I got tired of being hateful and mean, so yeah... Life is weird. I love her. Trying to invoke these forms intentionally sounds like asking for trouble though. Better to purify your intentions and keep your head low, and miracles may happen.

Tulpas and multiple personality disorder are not the same thing. From what I can tell, tulpas are a branching of personality. You use imagination and consistent reinforcement to create a person, and to make them a proper person (detailed and independent of your imagination), you let them off the reins and try to make them act on their own so they can naturally 'fill in'. This is like making a split in personality, a branch, but usually the original is the clear root that the other is built atop. It usually doesn't go above one added personality and its independence/strength varies, because it's pretty hard to reinforce just one that more than that or even making that one complete is very time consuming and basically requires you to constantly call it up and integrate it into your normal life/experience otherwise you'd have to spend hours on in intense imagination to keep it conditioned. In all this you still share the same mind-space, just bifurcated identity and personality. The personalities don't tend to have differing levels of access to memories and mental habits. This really isn't unusual (mentally ill), you're generating input for your model of the world from within. It's functionally no different to the social mind you take input from and update yourself to, and just as fake. Having one personality isn't a biological imperative that's just what naturally develops. The mind/brain apparently has no problem breaking things up or having a plurality of identities. Actually a simpler form of this isn't unusual, you act differently with different people and in different contexts. Multiple personality disorder or Dissociative identity disorder is more like splitting the mind into disparate shards. Adjacent personas can interact and share with eachother, but until remerged they have their own mind-space that others cannot access, they may not even know about others because there can be upwards of a hundred. This is because this mental illness happens as a result of trauma shattering the mind, a need to cope. Additionally in a lot of cases it seems helped along by systematic psychological deconstruction by an abuser and/or pimp. A lot of cases of this illness are in children who were kidnapped or prostituted (by their families) within a pedophile network. It's likely that pimps or related keys in the network have a standard practice of inducing and helping along this illness because it conveniently breaks up a child's life into completely separate experiences. The personality that deals with cold-based torture such as freezing showers is completely separate from the persona that goes to school and laughs with friends, except that it's the same person, just as the one that deals with clients and their abuse so pleasantly and submissively (as was trained) is yet again separate. There is never just two personas though I assume it's possible, two is too limiting for their handlers and doesn't sufficiently break their experience into confusing and winding blocks. With just two it would be easy to call up the other (the one that experiences the bad things) and know everything. When you have a hundred this is a slow and delicate process. Either way causes extreme stress on the individual, as the personas exist basically to keep the individual functional. Perhaps they would simply mentally die if it were just two anyway because their suffering is never just singular or mild. The reason is mainly to separate blocks of suffering, so if you have all suffering in one persona it probably wouldn't work. The persona would just be dysfunctional, fail to do what you want of it, and it would be easy for the two to become aware of oneanother and communicate. Indeed, creating new personas might be to stop the personas communicating. It makes finding out about someone's life, particularly the crimes they have endured, a long process of calling up personas and getting them to each contribute their bit and eventually get closer and closer, and ideally start merging personality and mind-space. There is the possibility that this mental illness is not something that just happens from some trauma, but is instead a mental profile brought about by a specific and systematic set of psychological techniques that is taught and shared, and repeated similarly in all cases. But I really don't want this to be true as it would mean this network (networks?) is ubiquitous and blatant. The techniques also involve the pimp or whoever giving the personas names and calling them up as desired, which is partly why it is possible to sort through them but it also makes me think this is no coincidence but specific to the techniques. The automatic trigger is context. e.g. at school? no-suffering persona. But according to their own accounts and interviews/investigations, they are also called to the fore by name. Adjacent personas at least have awareness of eachother and can communicate with eachother. That's mainly how investigations work, getting the personas to fill in details and blocks of experience together to get a full picture.
Switch · 2020-07-03 02:56
>>3332 Oh another thing on that last part. One persona may have experience something important but doesn't have the experience/memories to properly contextualise and explain that important experience. Getting other personas to contribute may make the meaning and details of this experience very clear as they have experiences, not to mention knowledge, that complete it.
Rick Deckard · 2020-07-03 06:57
>>3332 >There is never just two personas though I assume it's possible, two is too limiting for their handlers and doesn't sufficiently break their experience into confusing and winding blocks. With just two it would be easy to call up the other (the one that experiences the bad things) and know everything. I see what you are saying, but I would like to point out that dissociative i still like multiple personality disorder can be induced by trauma (not necessarily intentional- ie witnessing the death of a family member) but what you are referring to as "disassociation" is not exactly the same as the clinical condition it sounds like. People behave differently around others normally, but that does not exactly mean they have multiple "personalities" as they are all still consistently part of the same individual. In the clinical condition, people may see themselves as actually different human beings (gender may also not be a factor). People may at times see themselves as a 99 year old man, and then an hour later believe that they are a 14 year old girl and behave accordingly after a trigger response- to the extent of even having different names for themselves- bearing in mind that these people truly believe themselves to be this individual in an uncontrolled fashion. Unlike the stress coping mechanisms of compartmentalization and rationalization (which can result in stockholm syndrome etc.) the simple act of behaving differently around others does not result in a fractured internal identity: >This entity is still lain (the girl who likes computers) >This entity is still lain (the girl with many school friends) With dissociative personality disorder, you could wake up as one person and later believe yourself to actually be a different person >This entity is Arisu (the girl at school) >This entity is Lain (the girl with all the computers) They musn't have awareness of each other, for example if someone said "Hey Lain, can you hand me that pencil" the individual would respond with "Who is Lain, I'm Arisu, is she someone who looks like me? Is that why you always call me Lain?" In some documented cases, people actually can communicate their multiple personalities >This entity is Lain, Arisu is not here right now but she wants to eat ice cream after school People with cognizant personalities are actually somewhat of a danger to themselves, in one case a woman who was a kind caring mother/independent party whore (iirc only 2 personalities) checked herself into a mental institution for treatment for the sake of her child, then the other personality exploited the system and checked herself out. There is considerable debate within the psychology community about the case for people being charged with crimes committed under different personalities and how one could in fact test such a phenomenon. In essence, can you charge someone with a crime that was effectively committed by a different individual (trapped in their mind). Imagine a grown man beats an 8 year old school child because he believed he was also an 8 year old, and he thought the other child was going to steal his bicycle. Once reverted back to his adult personality he had neither recollection or knowledge of the other identity or incident. Essentially, the adult would face what he could perceive as false charges against him despite evidence. I think that Tulpas are either a strong imaginative character produced by the individual (like an imaginary friend) or at worst a self constructed dissociative personality produced in a pseudo-sterile environment (ie self induced trauma response to generate a personality) https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dissociative-disorders/symptoms-causes/syc-20355215 You may or may not also be interested in splitting of identities physically by severing the corpus Colosseum as with split-brain experiments (common after lobotomies)

I read about maynard james keenan meditating until he hallucinated, so I think it's something like that.
