Solipsism
The Phantom Phreak · 2017-09-15 14:28
Sometimes I feel like I'm in a dream, like life is just a dream, and when I feel this way, it distracts me from everything else. I can't work properly, I can barely comprehend speech, and I feel immensely sad and scared. Because what's to prove me wrong?
Debbie Charteris · 2017-09-15 20:43
this is called derealization, its a type of anxiety. the best thing you can do when you feel this way is to ignore it. I know it may be hard to ignore it but, the more you think about it, the worse it gets. the best way to ignore it is by doing something that calms you down, ie listen to music, watch a show, read a book, ect. another thing you can do is try to live healthier, things like junk food and lack of exercise can trigger derealization.

I've been experiencing these things too. I dont know why but whenever I remember the fact that im human and that i will die and what happens after death i tend to get anxiety and think of the worst.
Yet Another Lainon · 2017-09-24 08:11
I enjoy this feeling, but i can see why it makes others discomfort.
>>554 Is right, just ignore it.
What if the world isnt real? So what would that change anything?
Just keep going.

Reality isn't breaking down, you're just becoming more aware...

Life is one long dream with more dreams.
Only thoughts exist, theyre all individual worlds.
At the end of it all what makes reality actually real?
Dont let your fears hold you back.

I really do enjoy this feeling as well!
When I zoom out, see our planet, try to imagine our solar system and then that infinite universe we're in, I remember I'm going to die and be part of that infinite darkness forever, all my problems seem extremely small. It makes me feel a very deep and very strong sensation of comfort.
Because this life has no sense, nothing make sense, and we better enjoy the ride, because it's all there is to do.
You should not feel afraid, Lain.

Sometimes I feel like everybody around me are trying too hard to live in a sort of dream, reinforced by a sort of simulation, like a stage play, trying too hard to replace the reality (or the pure perception of reality, when nothing has an objective value), and accepted by (almost) every memeber of it. Everyone trying too hard to live a role just based on the idea that all that fake stuff is the experience of a "realer than real" life gives me the most cringe feelings.
Is that, or I'm just a crazy person that cant cope up with reality, and will be condemned to spill its spaguetti until its last breath, trying hopelessly to get out of that weird handmade reality, or even if that is the real thing, and I'm just the weird one.

I kind of get this. Reality just isn't as cool as fiction no matter how much everyone wants it to be. Everyone is lame and pitiful. We can evolve and learn and create as much as we want, but it's all a vain attempt to achieve some sort of fantasy that will never come true. If it was possible, I would consider traveling back in time to villagers of old and tell them not to bother. Farm and plant gardens and play tag but don't bother developing any more. It never gets better, no one gets happier, there's really, no point.
But who knows, maybe someday all that'll change. Not that I'd get my hopes up.
Hououin Kyouma · 2018-10-23 09:59
Sometimes I feel like having a deja-vu of a distant dream, like I've seen the exact image of the scene before my eyes.
You'd think that this happens around memorable situations,
but it's always around innocuous stuff. Writing code in front of the screen, drinking a coffee, etc. It does make sense tough that everyday occurrences would make the bulk of it.
What's troubling me is that it's getting more frequent, as if my memory is running out of space and glitching this sensation into my perception.
Yuki Nagato · 2018-10-23 11:28
I am not even going to try elaborate on this but going to give this account of things of mine, the reasons and details of me are positive to me and it is beyond the realm of logic to explain any such things, but i am not all that abused by drugs and reality yet, atleast i think so, i was always a logical person.
In short: reality is a dream!
I have in the very few months and particularly days seen and experienced things literally trough my own senses.
The gross details outline that reality is indeed a illusion, some sort of collective one and that there is indeed some sort of supernatural/divine form of intelligence out there.
There is more to it than i probably know right now, but one such intelligence of some sort or in some way is telling me and probably you an important message that we are not willing to notice, but its there.
That message being: Wake the fuarrrk up!
We are trapped in our own realities of sort, but we have so much more power than we think and we can evolve to something more significant if we just try to hack reality in our own way.
I couldnt even begin on elaborating the consequences of such an extreme realization, a part of me always knew, a part of all of us did i think.
It shook me up, even though im used to things.
There is an entire world out there slowly opening up to ourselfs if we open up to it and believe in the significance and power of our lifes.

Counterpoint: without some dream of how great life could be, why would anyone try to do anything? I know that I live for my dreams.

Can you elaborate? Have you had significant stress from your occupation? What about concussions? Do you do drugs? drink alchohol etc ?
Nell · 2018-10-27 00:38
Solipsism? This sounds more like depersonalisation or disassociation or something.
Drink some strong coffee to put your mind back on the Symbolic-Dexterity circuit, and take a really cold shower. No one can stay derping about in an Alpha rhythm while their balls are shrinking and their teeth are chattering.
Take a walk or a run if you have to. Something to get the blood pumping.
If it persists, see a doctor, you might have a tumour or schizophrenia.
Crazy Jake · 2018-10-28 17:50
i cant explain, you would not understand! this is not how i am!
honestly though it sounds like psychosis a little bit. My only comfort I can offer assuming this is something you can think your way out of is this; what are you going to do if it is a dream. It's totally out of your control, all you can do is place your trust in whoever or whatever is dreaming.

all are real. no unreals.
questioning "is it?"? rather "how is it?" what way..
at core--in mind, all merely percursy data, processate. this [my] stream is Reality. all else, physics,mathematics,,--criterial, cultural,,
people are, but here merely fact, aspect of greater fact 'reality'. nonfact, real.
fictionalism--all are fake, usu all unreal.
no, i extreme realism. all real, maybe some fake.

Well, it is a kind of dream, but with other dreamers in it. So no need to worry. Even if it's a dream, people still feel things, such as happiness and sadness, so that's a reason good enough to play along with it. Our modern way of life is also kind of absurd if you compare it to the way humans have lived for all of history, so it's no wonder if it feels unreal to some people. Don't take it as a personal fault.
If it gets serious enough, it could fall under the category of derealization/depersonalization, like >>554 said. The cure to DPDR is generally to just not give a damn about it, so try not to read too much into it. Grounding helps, especially physical activities. I run, lift weights, dance or climb almost every day, and it helped immensely.

In psychosis, you generally lack self awareness. If you are aware of the feeling that things feel unreal, then that is not psychosis.

I basically agree with all of this and I think it is true. I am just trying to understand what level it is true on

Nibba, de-realization can be the first stages of a psychotic episode/psychosis, ignoring it might not be enough, lain may need to find the trigger and work through understanding it.
>>1652
Just wait until your start dreaming of the future in your sleep and you know people you won't meet until later under trivial circumstances Present Day, Present Time! AHAHAHAHAHA!

Are you talking about synchronicities? Read Jung if you are unfamiliar with the concept.

> de-realization can be the first stages of a psychotic episode/psychosis
That's true but de-realization or de-personalization doesn't necessarily always mean that's it's a precursor to a psychosis episode. I think it's helpful to assess whether the person is also starting to think illogically about cause and effect or whether he/she is also having delusions, since these 2 symptoms aren't related to depersonalization-derealization disorder.
