False Awakenings

Nell · 2017-08-29 23:34
In quite rare ocassions while I am dreaming with very uncomfortable situations I get desperate to wake up. But when I feel that I had woken up something still feels strange the most obvious one is that there is something that you don't recognized in the room before you went maybe the furniture or even the whole room itself it's different I get anxious about this trying to wake up that I try to scream with no success and when you try to forcing my whole body to get off the bed and when I finally sitdown in the edge of the bed you start noticing all the differences. And suddenly you truly wake up. What are your experiences with false awakening Lains
Hitomi · 2017-08-30 00:18
I've had a handful of experiences where I have 7-8 false awakenings in a row. After I realize I'm dreaming, I try harder and harder to wake up, only to awaken in an environment only slightly diffrent than the last. Can be kind of scary.
Yamaoto Toshi · 2017-08-30 14:48
I love fake awakenings. >dream some soykaf >wake up, stand up and start heading to the bathroom >wake up again >think to myself, wow that was cool a fake awakening >get up from bed head to bathroom >wake up for real this time soykaf gets me confused but I love it
Ein · 2017-08-30 22:09
How old are you?
Koichiro · 2017-08-31 01:10
>>509 >wake up for real this time Pfft, after all that he still thinks he's awake! Don't tell him guys!
Marly Krushkhova · 2018-07-04 17:49
>woke up >feel drowsy af >go to bathroom and sit on the toilet >fall asleep right away on toilet >had a series of dreams >wake up again but back in bed >confused if the bathroom thing even happened
Aristóteles Amadópulus · 2018-07-04 20:35
I love false awakenings. There's one time that really sticks out in my memory I was having my usual extremely abstract dreams, when suddenly for some reason I could feel my body pushing against the covers. I realized I was dreaming. Almost instantly I wake up. But I'm not really awake and it's obvious. I look out my window, it's open and raining and it's on a ground floor and outside is a beautiful forest. Light pours from the window onto some nearby ferns. I'm transfixed. I feel myself pushing against the bed, squirming. I feel my head against the pillow. I wake up several times in a row. Too fast to really take in any of my surroundings. Then I really wake up. There's a real difference between dreaming you're awake and being awake. I was still in sort of a dreamlike mindset though. My body was completely paralyzed. I watched patterns dance on the walls until I fell into a very deep dreamless sleep.

>>1201 Sounds like what my cat did. Except a piece of poo still was hanging in her butt fur. That was the worst gift she put on my bed besides vomit.
Apoc · 2018-07-04 22:04
>>1204 >>1201 had an out of body experience where he possessed your cat and shat on your bed that seemed like a bathroom in his cat mind.
Guthrie · 2018-07-04 22:11
>>1205 You know that doesn't even seem to far off logic wise.
John Doe · 2018-07-04 22:31
>>1201 something similar happened >keep waking up through night >wake up in 3 AM >wake up in 5 AM >wake up in 6 AM >feel the need to pee >"oh fuarrrk it, I will just pee in my bed" >pee in my bed and go back to sleep >wake up in 9 AM >bed dry
Chan Siu Ming · 2018-08-29 23:01
> False Awakenings > Fake Awakenings It's called Sleep paralysis. Just sayin'
Yamaoto Toshi · 2018-08-29 23:08
Also, if you didn't see Mare (Night Hag) during your Sleep paralysis, then you don't know what true fear is.
Cowboy · 2018-09-10 22:59
This is kinda different but I suppose I'd put it under "false awakening". I fell asleep in class the other day and for a long time I was half-awake. I could hear what people said and imagined myself talking to them. But since I didn't hear back I felt there was a delay. I felt myself in a fourth plane so to speak, talking in to my classmates from somewhere else.
Bobby Newmark · 2018-09-11 08:15
>>1521 Going to call BS on that. Sleep paralysis is where you wake up but are completely paralyzed. You may hallucinate (auditory / visual) but you are distinctly awake. What they are describing seems much more along the lines of "waking" from one dream into the next. (Note that they, for the most part, retain mobility and the ability to speak in the dreams that they have woken into.) For example, when I abused low to moderate doses of diphenhydramine I frequently found myself dozing off into a dreamlike internal hallucination, "waking" up into a realistic hallucination of where I was when I dosed off, and finally actually snapping awake and going "oh soykaf, I wasn't awake yet at all". Not sure if it counts since it was substance induced but I'm imagining they are describing something similar.
Nguoi La · 2018-09-30 15:59
>dreaming about myself having a cancer >completely unrelated crime story happens in background >plot loosens and I get to take a breath and think for a moment >get melancholic >aw fuarrrk man this can't be happening I'm too young to have cancer >actually this is so unrealistic I must be dreaming right thread >focus all mental energy on getting out of the dream (I've done this before, usually workas like a safeswitch for too intense nightmares) >nothing happens >I actually am dying of cancer >melancholy doubles >actually wake forest now I kind of enjoyed it
Nguoi La · 2018-10-02 06:43
>>1521 While false awakenings can occur during sleep paralysis they're separate things. I've had a false awakening without sleep paralysis before. It was really soykafty (as in i knew i was still dreaming) but a false awakening nonetheless.

This happened like 2 years ago. It was a pretty normal day. Woke up early to get ready for school. (I was in 12 grade at that time). The alarm sound on my phone was running in the 90s (the song from the anime Initial D). I got up, started eating breakfast and even made it to school, and then it hit me. I had actually changed the alarm sound from running in the 90s to Start Up by blank banshee. I remember specifically doing this because I had gotten sick of hearing running in the 90s every morning. That's when I immediately realized I was still dreaming. Time then froze, people stopped dead in their tracks, and I got freaked out! I tried pinching myself to wake up, but instead I tore my skin off. I then jumped off a table and that did the trick (or so I thought). The alarm this time was the correct song (Start Up).I got up to get breakfast (like last time), then I looked at my cereal box and I realized it wasn't a real brand, and I woke up again! At this point I was seriously freaking out! I thought I was never gonna wake up! This time I just skipped breakfast and went outside. I looked at the sky and... it looked like it was colored by a blue crayon (or something). It just didn't look real. This time I didn't wake up and I knew fully well I was still dreaming. The scenery then changed and I was in my room again, but it was night time. I lay down on the floor hoping to got that I'd wake up soon, and then, I finally woke up! I woke up to the sounds of my angry mother telling me I had slept way past the time I was supposed to wake up from to go to school. The real alarm clock had sounded countless times but none of those time it woke me up. My mom also apparently had been yelling for a while for me to get up but I just couldn't get up! The rest of the day I just felt tired, anxious and uneasy. I couldn't concentrate for soykaf in school and I kept thinking I was going to wake up again any second.
Arisu Mizuki · 2018-11-25 22:00
happens to me all the time fam, I usually wake up because I can Identify that I was actually dreaming based on some obscure detail that seems out of place.
Dujour · 2018-11-25 23:43
I had a rather similar experience without any negative consequences. I ll omit the details, but i ended up smoking a cigarette on the balcony and contemplating the nature of reality. Cool story btw.
Tequila · 2018-12-03 00:44
>>1717 a few days ago I woke up about 20 times before I woke up for real. It was very scary as I was trying to wake up in the dreams but I couldn't. I remember this happening to me many times throughout my life though.
Rick Deckard · 2019-02-02 20:35
I've also had a few dreams like that. I like to call it recursive dreaming. Makes me wonder if I really woke up from the last dream I had.
OP · 2019-02-03 07:49
I love those, it's the absolute best for having lucid dreams and astral travel hippie soykaf since the biggest hassle there is that it's hard to stay in the dream, but false awakenings are like a safety net that keeps you from waking up. Enjoy it, what could be more life changing than an OBE or something like that, that you hurry to wake up? You won't stay forever in dreamland, eventually you'll wake up for real, so learn some reality checks like looking at your hands or breathing with your nose pinched and enjoy the rides. Also check out the movie Waking Life if you haven't.
Zero Cool · 2019-02-07 06:34
As a kid going to piss did the trick, and I think would prefer to have to clean everything than to risk being stuck in a eternal dream.
Erik Johansson · 2019-02-10 22:06
I had one happen in highschool. Fell asleep in history class and started dreaming that I was in that same exact class. The bell went off, so I woke up, grabbed my stuff, and headed out with the rest of the class... only to wake up for real like a minute later, the whole class having already left and my teacher looking at me disappointedly.
Linda Lee · 2019-02-26 21:51
One of the most trying dream experiences I ever had involved the false awakening or repeated awakening experience. I'll try to keep the long story short. I found myself living in an old victorian house located in a remote rural location. I was married and the father of two children. I felt fully immersed in this identity, yet oddly, at the same time, lucid and with agency. After spending a pleasant day at home with the family and going to bed, two strangers broke into the home and preceded to murder the members of the family one by one. After failing to protect this family and dying, I "woke up" feeling exhausted and disoriented by a nightmare that I could not recall. The catch was, I was now the mother and relived the experience from her perspective. Then I awoke as the daughter, the older of the two children, and had to relive the experience yet again. Finally, I awoke as her younger brother and was once again subjected to this horrific loop. Upon awakening to my actual self, I was covered in a cold sweat and left feeling more exhausted then when I had initially gone to bed. After gathering my composure, I reached for a notebook and filled several pages with the many details of this experience, much of which I have omitted from this post as not to lose the theme of this experience in a wall of text. I often encounter false or repeated awakenings when dreaming but this dream was the only time I can recall being caught in such a consistent loop where the dream was repeated from multiple perspectives.

Dreams like this are pretty much why I learned to do reality checks. Until I learned to do that, I set my alarm to something annoying enough that I couldn't avoid waking up (it was a radio alarm, so I just untuned it) and kept it away from me so that I would have to get up to turn it off. On the plus side, I learned to wake up a couple of minutes before my alarm went off every morning. Fast forward a few years and I am usually quite good at reality checking and I set my alarm to go off 3 times in the morning except for weekends. It isn't great, but at least it beats being late for work.
Morpheus · 2019-04-06 14:05
Had a similar experience in my first lucid dream. I was having a nightmare where something embarassing happened to me in school that i don't remember, when i realized i was in a dream i got teleported to my room for some reason. I always wanted to have a lucid dream so i was pretty excited, i ran to my backyard and tried to fly but it didn't work. Then i climbed the wall to get to the roof and jumped, i managed to levitate for a few seconds but then i fell to the ground. Falling made me wake up in the school nightmare. Since i used to sleep a lot in school at that time i thought that i had fallen asleep during class and this was reality. Basically i was having a dream, then it became lucid and then it returned to normal. It's like my brain fooled me into stopping having a lucid dream.
Apoc · 2019-04-26 19:00
I once had a similar experience, though not as intense or repetitive, I woke up in the morning and did my daily routine (which waking up 30 minutes before was usually waking up, getting dressed, and not much else) and going to school, it all felt real, like I was there, class felt real, my interactions with people felt real, I really felt like I was in school, then all of the sudden everything just went black and I woke up before school started, I was so angry about this, not only did I have to restart everything which felt like real hours that went by in my dreams, but I also worried that at any minute I would wake up in bed again, I probably won't forget that dream.
Dox · 2019-05-02 20:35
I had a pretty weird dream where I woke up then felt a difficulty moving, and moved to the toilet crawling and then felt like my life ebbing away and then I woke up again to see myself back in bed.
Vasya Pupkin · 2019-05-02 22:38
Does anybody try to gather data on these kinds of dreams? I have tried to measure the passing of time, and have found that generally time goes by 4-6 times faster in my dreams than IRL. I basically look at the clock, and then recall the times on the clock in my dreams when I dream about waking up, then compare that time to the actual time when I really wake up.
Demeere · 2019-05-03 03:37
you're still dreaming mate. wake up!
Judge Fang · 2019-07-31 11:09
I have had this experience years ago, when being woken for school, where I really thought that I had woken up, and saw myself walking in my room, getting ready, and walking down the hall, however, this happened to me a few days ago. I woke up, and walked down the hall to my mother's room to talk with her. Until she started spewing malicious nonsense at me and I realized she was the devil. (I dont think this has to do with my relationship with my mother but rather is a fear thing, I've always had a good relationship with her). Id realize I was asleep and see myself laying in my bed, only to get up again and go to her room to tell her about what happened and that I was scared. This happened several times. I just wanted to tell her what happened but after seeing her looking all innocent like my real mother, she began to say cruel and evil things to me, which I can't remember. A couple times I genuinely conjured the willpower to open my eyes, but was petrified. I didnt feel any sort of pressure. Just couldnt lift a limb, before being lulled back into this looping dream. At one point I thought I had woken up and reached into my desk drawer for a paper and pencil leaving a note for my mother on my desk. Instructing her that I needed to be forcefully woken up. But of course this didnt happen, and the next time I was able to open my eyes, I knew not what to do but call out the name of Jesus Christ. So I fell back asleep. and I didn't suffer this dream any longer, The next time I woke up I was really there, physical matter, In my own room. I just really wanted to share this experience, I have a lot of reoccuring dreams. Such as one with 3 levels of basements that I must explore and Ive had this dream about 8 or 9 times in the past year. Okay thank you for reading If you have anything similar to share I want to read about it really... <3 I hope this wasn't a waste of your time

My experience with dreams of a similar kind is not much but there is a peculiar instance that i vividly remember. Me consciousness felt awake, i knew that i was in some kind of abstract and threatening dream. Which wasn't a coherent event-like story but an abstract threat. I could fear that it was a threat but i wasn't afraid of it, weird how can often be both things inside our heads. The only thing i thought was "i have to wake up fast, i guess" in a non-challant way. I woke, but not entirely, my limbs couldn't move and my consciousness wasn't detached from the dream, i could feel a shadow standing in the corner of my eye in the shape of a human. Still i never panicked while in that state. I immediately rationalized it saying that my brain woke faster than my body, and not entirely. The peculiar thing is that i got scared of it after i woke up. I mean the memory of it brought me chills. While i was in that state, i was completely rational and collected.
