Anyone ever have dreams that were so great you wanted to return to them so you fall back asleep and start again from where you left off?
I remember I had this huge crush on a girl when I was in 7th grade and I dreamt that her and I, and one of my friends + his GF, lived beneath the middle School in a huge cavernous nuclear shelter with trees and everything. Lots of polygamy sex and emotional times and stuff occurred during this dream journey. I continued this dream for I think 5 days if I recall correctly.
I can do this sometimes and I really enjoy it.
Has anyone had similar experiences?
Joey · 2017-07-09 04:43
Literally talked with a close friend about that yesterday. I manage to do this often, but I become too conscious of the fact I'm dreaming and ruins the experience. It's like writing a story. That's when I go listen to midnight radio or whatever radio apps suggest me.

I've done this a couple of times. Usually I only continue from where I left off on the same night but once I managed to have the same dream for a few nights because it was all I could think about during the day and the thoughts would get stronger at night because I'd be excited to re dream about it.
Cat Mother · 2017-07-09 17:28
Yeah, usually I wake up and then fall asleep again and then wake up again.

I've never been able to do it across several days, but I have woken from such a good dream that I immediately try to go back to sleep. Sometimes it works.
A few nights ago I had a feelsy dream about meeting my last girlfriend at a festival and finding out that she was still into me. V. good times.
Then feelsy times.

yeah I do something similar. Usually I don't remember m dreams after I wake up the first time, but I'll doze off again for about half an hour and have very vivid feelsy dreams.

>I had this huge crush on a girl when I was in 7th grade and I dreamt that her and I [did lewd things]
you should be careful about revisiting that dream; 7th grade is well under the age of consent in many countries.
If you should dream of this scenario again, try to imagine her as being at least the age of consent in your country. Failing that, you've a duty to report pedophillic ideation to your doctor, lest it metastasize into something worse.
Stay safe, lain.

It hasn't happened recently, but I have vague memories from a long while back (late middle school I think) of a recurring dream that slowly progressed across a few weeks.
I remember being really excited every time I woke up afterwards until finally it just stopped happening.

I keep dreaming that I'm on a stage singing a poem to everyone in my school. I don't know why but that dream doesn't leave me.

I've had dreams where I've gotten viruses on my computer and it's being controlled by someone and I'm trying to find it/get rid of it.
Drano · 2017-10-19 17:40
I have yes. Dreams where I'm not failing to reach my own standards, for example.
And then basically everything that could be called escapist fantasies...

When I was 15 or 16, I would dream a girl I'd loved when I was 12 had come back from the dead.
In the dream, we travelled to places I'd never been, did things I had never imagined, we were in love with one another. It wasn't at all the typical adolescent wet dream, not at all, it felt quite profound and sentimental. When I awoke, I felt completely crushed to realise she was no longer around, it was a dream, she was still dead, and I had to mourn for her all over again. This happened a few more times--a lovely, realistic dream, then the harsh realisation when I woke--until I learnt to know when I was in a dream, and when I had the dream with her again I would take care to remind us both that we were simply in a dream, that our romance wouldn't outlive the dawn. It seemed a lot less realistic, and it made me sad I lost that connection to her--oh, how it felt to feel her again--but I could no longer be so depressed when I woke up. I haven't dreamt about her in several years but I still think about her sometimes; she was too kind to have been taken so quickly.

I had a dream once where my Aunt was still alive and i was talking to her at a carnival. I tried going back to sleep but it's impossible for me after I gain awareness. I've never felt so locked out.

They happen every now and then. It's usually along the lines of "meet someone I had a crush on back in high school or college, get some time to spend together, next thing I know we're cuddling/hugging and it feels good and oh my god I can't believe I've finally gotten into a relationship after all these ye--" and then I wake up, hating myself for the rest of the day.
Crazy Jake · 2019-12-09 15:48
there's been times where i've fallen back asleep and i didn't have the same exact dream but it was the same dreamscape or a variation of sorts on the previous dream. Either there will be a perceivable constant in the dream (like being in a red room) or just a gut feeling that lets me know i'm in the same dreamscape as i was before even if im in a different location.

In my teens I had incredible recurring dreams that would actually progress from instance to instance. It was amazing and I remember looking forward to getting to continue the dream. I needed escapism badly in that time of my life.

I've certainly had dreams where I've awoken and then gone back to sleep and continued the dream where I left off, but all the times I've done that in the past was because I was curious about how the dream would end and not because I thought the dream was particularly great. The issue is that when I sleep I can tell that I'm asleep. I can feel the bed beneath me and the blanket above me even as I dream and there are too many strange and obviously dreamlike elements for me to ignore. Because of that, I don't really long for any of my dreams because they don't feel very real.
I've also had involuntary recurring dreams. The most common one that I used to have was a silent film of a paper becoming crumply in stop motion. Many nights I would just have this dream on loop, with the paper slowly wrinkling until its wrinkles filled the screen, and then it would reset and begin again.
I've only ever attempted to continue yesterday's dream once. You see, because I know my dreams are fake, I usually don't have interest in continuing them once I've been awake for a long enough time. But one of my dreams was truly perplexing to me, and even after I had awoken I still thought about it. It was yet another silent film type dream, but this one was in color and was a pencil drawn animation. I watched it play out from a third person perspective, as if I was a viewer watching a movie rather than someone participating in the dream.
The dream began with a character who was me at the top of a tree, getting pushed off by a mob of faceless characters. Each one had a word written on their blank faces, a word which represented something that had been bothering me at the time. Finally, the mob managed to push my character off the tree, and as I fell, motion lines and the words "wooosh woooosh" appeared around my character. Just before my character hit the ground, a large songbird who was taller than me swooped down and I landed on its back. It felt like my pillow. I spent the rest of the dream with the bird, who taught me how to fly and told me we were friends. Then, near the end of the dream, the bird looked at the me who was watching the film and said, "Looks like you're going to wake up soon". Then it said, "I'll see you again tomorrow night" as the same words appeared in a pencil font around it.
Then I woke up. The dream really stuck with me, because even though I knew it was fake throughout the whole dream, it was definitely the first (and only) dream I've had where someone other than me knew I was dreaming. I tried the next night, and the next next night, and every night for a week after that to see the bird again, but I never did. For a while I was even sad and upset, thinking that the bird had betrayed me, or maybe that the bird had died.

Unfortunately that only happens with my nightmares, and if it that happened with a dream I absolutely can't remember. Though there is an exception, it was a nightmare that turned into a dream.

I have recurring dreams of a town where everyone is friendly and everything I could possibly want is within walking distance. It reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode about Willoughby. Even when I don't want to get sucked into a fake world that's all in my head, I still dream about it every now and then. Not sure if there's anything I can do about it or if I should embrace it.
Drano · 2020-09-10 14:51
i do this accidentally for 3 days, the dream was about me with weird and destructive powers, there was some people who wanted to kill me for some reason, and i defeated them for 3 days in loop

There was a dream I had some years ago when I was still living with parents. I was traveling around a dilapidated kingdom, rummaging through the raided rooms of a grand old castle. Monsters would attack here and there and I would fight them with my sword and shield. I remember opening up chests and looking through them for loot. The last thing I recall was walking out onto a broken stone bridge. From there I could see the entire kingdom. It was a beautiful day, the sunlight painting the castle's stones white, stretching out across the gorgeous green landscape below. I felt a connection to this kingdom, and a deep sadness for it being gone.
Then my dad woke me up to go mow the lawn.
I immediately returned to bed afterwards, and found myself in a continuation of the last dream. But things were different. There was a massive celebration being held, and I was the king. I physically felt older and much more experienced. This dream now took place decades later, after I had restored the kingdom and eliminated whatever threats and brought it to ruin in the first place. I was in a large open courtyard in the castle, walking from table to table shaking the hands of everyone I came across. Food and drink was plentiful. I remember seeing someone leaving, a fellow party member perhaps, and waving them off goodbye and wishing them luck on their future endeavors. It was a good dream, and I felt such a great sense of accomplishment and pride.

About half a year ago, I'd had a dream that I was laying in a bed surrounded by sheets that were pure white and I was incredibly relaxed and comfortable.
I had turned to my side and right when I did I locked eyes with someone with greyish blue eyes and felt something I had never felt before.
I awoke after and felt I had lost something important or forgotten something important right after I locked eyes and had that profound feeling.
I used to have dreams like this when I was a child and sometimes as a teenager with feelings as intense and profound as this (not always potentially love, other things too) but they stopped around the halfway point of highschool.
To have one again was a shock, I'd usually wake up and become sad usually not remembering what I had to be happy about, and trying to sleep again never worked.

There's something that happened to me many times when I was dreaming, which is sort of like what OP described. I think it might have to do with how my subconscious acts when dreaming, but I'm not really schizo enough to oversimplify it into pseudo-scientific soykaf.
Sometimes when I dream I start to encounter situations that are somewhat familiar to the previous dreams I had. They often lead me to have sudden memories of that said dream, and then they make me revisit the same dream over again. On some occasions, I revisit the same dream without experiencing deja vu. It's sort of like what you see in movies such as Paprika and Inception, but only in one person's consciousness.

I had a dream last night where I transformed a ton of russians into rats (I'm usually a magic user in my dreams). I then put all the rats into a big metal tub and the tub started filling from the bottom up with boiling oil. The rats tried escaping but the sides were too tall. Eventually the oil filled the entire tub and they could not escape and were deep fried.
In the same night I had a second dream where I had a pet parasitic worm that I would take on walks by having it attach to my index finger, but eventually the worm and I had an argument and so the worm ran away from home.
