has anyone else ever felt really, really trippy from a low dose of melatonin?
i started taking melatonin for my dspd (delayed sleep phasic disorder) this evening and maybe it's the brian eno or something but i feel so dissociated and melancholy and trippy. I'd like to know if any other lainchanners have experienced this, and also - i'm really worried to go to sleep now, i'm afraid i'll experience kanashibari (sleep paralysis) : < have y'all had any experiences with kanashibari? i sure have.
goodness i'm gonna have strange dreams...

I used to take melatonin but never really had this on a low dose really, I don't think it increases the chance of sleep paralysis, the time that I had that was before I used melatonin. It could be your condition trying to adapt to the medicine, in any case try and sleep on your stomach, it decreases the chance of sleep paralysis I think.

How much melatonin do you take, lain?
I occasionally take 0.3g-0.6g an hour before sleep. It only makes me really sleepy, not much else.
I do feel dissociated but that's kind of the point. That's what generally happens if you fall asleep.

the tab was 3mg

>It could be your condition trying to adapt to the medicine
I've never thought about things this way but that's absolutely what it's done with past regimen such as benedryl and (((dxm))). The benedryl became a source of terrifying hallucinatory experiences and delusions... I guess that's part of why I'm so scared.

How did you sleep tonight? Also be sure to actually go to bed after taking melatonin, otherwise it might give your body a sleepy feeling but if you're still awake it may cause something like sleep paralysis.. (Remember that I'm not an expert, just theorizing).

I just took 3 tabs because lainon had such a higher dose than me. It's still much less than theirs... I'll see if this helps.
Truthfully I stayed up on the computer :L but I wasn't sleepy. I'm about to go to sleep now but... I'll hang out in lainirc for an hour or so bc i'm not sleepy.
I'll see if the change in dosage helps...
Oh! you were asking how i slept *last* night... I slept very long and deep, like 11 hours or so i think? 8am-7pm

Don't do this, if you do plan on staying up for a bit, turn off your pc/phone/whatever screen, take your melatonin, go to bed and read a book or do something that makes you sleepy lain.
Do this and report back about how your sleep was.

I used to take melatonin but after about a month or so it didn't work anymore. Stopped making me feel sleepy at all and eventually I just felt more awake. Never sleep paralysis.

LET ME EXPLAIN SLEEP TO YOU MY FELLOW LAINS
you need to sleep...
slee allows your memories to flash from one part of the brain to another.
think of it as allowing all the CPU and RAM in a computer to be devoted to transfering data instead of watching cat videos (terrible example bt whatever)
one thing that can disrupt sleep is blue light (like from screens- phone computer TV)
it makes you crave junk food, pushed back your circadian rythm, aqnd can cause an umber of healt hproblems.
you can combat it by
>wearing yellow glasses (commercially marketed as "blue blocking" or "gaming glasses" but 3M makes a pair of yellow eye protection for 10$ or less on sale)
>disabling the color blue in your screen
>not using computers before bed

You were very tired that's why you felt trippy. The melatonin was starting up your sleep.

societal problems and mass mind control is not only due to blue light, you're deluding yourself

My experiences with melatonin was pretty much I just slept a long longer than I wanted to. I kept sleeping for 12 to 14 hours straight.
Jens Hansen · 2018-09-20 03:16
I have seen closed eye fractals after taking melatonin

Stop getting into the adult cabinet. Melatonin is a supplement, you can't get high on it.

Been taking 5mg a little less than daily for a few years, it helps immensely with dreams (vivid lucid dreaming with melatonin, little to no dreams at all without). I get the trippy feeling if I double or triple dose, or if I stay awake more than ~30 minutes, or both. Its pretty fun.
Never had problems with sleep paralysis on melatonin though, both my experiences with it were before I started using it.
