Sleep while zzz

Lain Iwakura · 2017-05-03 22:35
Has anyone here ever used music to try and stimulate dreams? Maybe using a specific album or "sound" to try and push the dream toward that feeling. I've tried and a few times it's seemed to attain the general feel, but no solid proof thus far. Thoughts?

>>139 I never used it for the sole purpose of stimulating dreams, but it you can definitely notice a difference sometimes. Back in highschool i used to fall asleep with the same album/set of albums on for weeks at a time, playing loud enough to hear pretty clearly actually. As far as changing the actual content of dreams i'm not sure, mine are always pretty different and unique. The cool thing was hearing the songs in your dreams. You will be in your dream then realize "oh yeah i know this track" or wake up the next morning realizing that a certain album was playing the whole time. It has to be loud enough though, if you really want to give it a shot play it as loud as you can while still being able to pass out. I would imagine this has potential as a lucid dreaming technique. Listen to the album throughout the day, perform reality checks, focus on dreaming. Then when a certain song comes on you may hear it in your dream and think "soykaf i'm dreaming, lets go do some stuff".

I used to have the radio set as my alarm clock on. It would never successfully wake me up, but I would recognize songs in my dreams and occasionally realize it was my alarm upon awaking. Like >>146 said, could be a great lucid dreaming technique

I've found that, if I fall asleep with headphones on, I only get a fleeting, dreamless sleep until I turn it off. Maybe if I try a speaker instead?

>>139 Back when I was big into vinyls I'd set up the speaker system around my bed room, dim the lights and listen to it with my eyes closed. I didn't always fall asleep but when I did I sure had lively dreams. Funnily I'd only doze for 15-20 minutes. That kind of sleep where you're just a step away from waking, or so it felt. Usually just before the album cleared up. >>149 Had this two. I prefer genric alarms and dreams have altered into air raids or meltdowns to accomadate the continuoes beeping rather than actually waking up. >>151 I'm the same. Sleeping with headphones is uncomfotable and over-stimulating. 2-5 speakers at the head and feet of the bed hit the spot.

I've had some interesting dreams falling asleep to some of Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada's quieter songs.

If you can sleep while listening to music you're a nigor who can't appreciate music enough

>>188 I appreciate music a lot, it happens that instrumental music is for me relaxing enough to fall asleep.
Neo · 2017-05-28 22:26
I sometimes listen to isochronic or binaural sounds to get better sleep or to induce lucid dreams.
XERXES · 2017-06-06 12:22
>>190 Yeah, I'm sure The Flying Luttenbachers are relaxing enough for you.
Apoc · 2017-06-08 19:22
every now and then i pass out with my headphones blaring

I don't know if it altered the content of the dreams I had, but the first time I fell asleep listening to music through headphones was a few years ago when Random Access Memories came out... sometime after "Touch" I drifted off, woke up for an instant partway through "Motherboard", then fell back asleep immediately. I don't remember much, but it was a strange experience and waking up the next morning felt great in a weird way.

>>188 There are a few songs that I love and consistently cry to if I listen actively, but when I listen passively they serve to relax me when I sleep. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpObzLsq-44 Personally my mind gets racing right before I go to bed, and it causes a pseudo-insomnia that keeps me up for hours until my brain is fried and I pass out of exhaustion. During bouts of depression my thoughts invariably turn dark and drives me to consider suicide. Music is a great way to flush out those thoughts and give me a way to meditate and clear my head before I sleep. I listen to music for many reasons, and different songs serve different purposes. Most, as I said, give off a different feeling depending on context and mindset. It's too limiting for me to cut off different contexts and reasons to listen to music because I'd feel like I'm not "appreciating music enough."

I was listening to aphex twin every night before i go to bed and it's very good. I don't know why, but your music make me feel in another planet. It's very good to have a lucid dream too.

Dungeon synth before bed is what I've occasionally done. It's incredible in how it stimulates the imagination, medieval and fantasy imagery and adventure just flows in my mind and I can almost completely immerse in the action. One of my favourites to listen to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lLpweVTgeM

>>139 No but it's always weird when real life sounds effect your dreams. >>377 He's written music while lucid dreaming so that makes sense.

I once almost accidentally strangled myself with my headphone cable doing that.

It is the only thing that makes me fall asleep, or relaxes me enough to fall asleep. I also used to listen to https://yewtu.be/watch?v=8_UGZKRgZGo and https://yewtu.be/watch?v=RXlmTG1DIIg a lot.
