Tv series and movies about IT or similar

Enough anime, time for 3d retards in front of a computer. Conspiracy theories are accepted. Cyberpunk movies are good too.
Bonus points for being actual fun shows
Jewish propaganda will not be tolerated.

Pride month was 5 months ago, kill yourself.
I enjoyed IT crowd as a sitcom, silicon valley is AIDS, "csi:cyber" looks good and they say "person of interest" is also good.
As for movies, the usual, matix, blade runner, event horizon looks good, robocop, teminator etc. Recommend something new and exciting.
Basically I was rewatching Dr.House (oy vey) and I wanted to know if there's something similarly good but tech related.
As I said, keep it IT, cyberpunk, sci fi, conspiracy...
Go.

Highly recommend Darren Arronofsky's "Pi." Hits the nail right on the head:
>late 90s computer porn
>reality-bending mathematical delusions
>paranoia
>killer jungle soundtrack
New remaster from A24 coming very soon.

>matrix trilogy is cool
matrix number one is cool, the rest is just trying to ride the vibe and milk it a little harder. Common thing in certain sorts of scifi unfortunately.
movies about IT lol. Office space?

It's like the matrix, except in poland, and jacking in is a video game, not a nightmare AI mind control, and being in the game too long means you can't tell reality from the game. Some of the same people who worked on GiTS made it. Soundtrack is glorious.

The KGB, the Computer, and Me (1990)
A simple movie that is also educational for how tech of its time worked.

my favorite cyberpunk movie that hardly gets mentioned in these threads. the vibe is comfy. grunge eastern european atmosphere. loner remote coder. conspiracy thriller.

web series about a group of pirates during the peak of movie pirating. they're all working remotely and it shows the whole story through viewing their desktops, it adds a webcam on the desktop so you can see the character. they chat over irc and each one is introduced with their own unique desktop aesthetic. very comfy and well made.

Feels like a human-only version of BABYLON 5

I did watch a little of the expanse and read further in the books and it was obnoxiously gay and got worse later on. An aggressive editor could salvage a half decent scifi series out of it, but as it is I wouldn't recommend it.
As for the videos, they make everyone look the same. Belt people aren't supposed to look like Earth people ! they remove the vast and growing physical divide between these new races of man and are forced to generally pretend that all gravity is 1G except a few gimmick tricks and the fact that in some scenes they say no one can get out of his chair. Im not the first to say this but if it was to be done it should have been done as animation.

>I did watch a little of the expanse and read further in the books and it was obnoxiously gay and got worse later on.
The Expanse starts off good. It's an overpopulated democratic-socialist earth locked in a cold war with scientifically advanced and disciplined mars and anarchist space colonists caught in the middle. The main characters are wagies who are transporting cargo when they encounter a destroyed earth ship. Then they spot a martian war ship close by and implications are implied. Except the martians are as clueless as they are. The real attacker returns and the heros escape by stealing an advanced martian light ship which becomes their Firefly for the rest of the saga. Their first priority is to avoid an interplanetary nuclear war and second they need to find out who/what the attacker is because in this literary universe nobody has encountered aliens yet
It starts out good but you definitely notice when the author hits 2016 and the woke pen starts scribbling all over the manuscripts. I don't know if it's cruel to set someone off on a media franchise when they are probably going to ragequit a long time before the end.
>Belt people aren't supposed to look like Earth people
And Amos is bald in the books. It's also ridiculous how the protagonist is so hopelessly in love with a black middle aged single mom. She does literally nothing to earn his love it's just a central foundation of the plot which is never explained.
Actually if OP does pick it up and get familiar with the characters make sure to read the novellas about Amos living on earth they are pretty cyberpunk.

Battlestar Galactica has an interesting premise which is that advanced life forms create a computer virus to disable all human ships and try to eliminate all of humanity in a surprise attack. The only military ship to survive the computer virus is an antique flying museum with no internal networking. They are the last surviving humans and need to evade being killed by the attackers. The tech kind of stops there though, the rest on the show is space opera and philosophical naval gazing.

>and amos is supposed to be bald
this feels trivializing. Making the belt people look as they do is like if you made a lord of the rings movie and just made the orcs and trolls and elves and hobbits distinguished only by their facial tattoos or lack thereof.
>starts out good but you definitly notice when the author hits 2k2^4, I don't know if it's cruel to set someone off on a media franchise when they are probably going to ragequit a long time before the end
Are you sure it wasn't written half in the hope/mind to be a tv series ? One of the coauthors is said to have had some sort of relationship with the game of thrones guy.
Neuromancer · 2024-02-17 13:43
can i just say there's literally 1 reference to tech & gnu/linux in all of mr. robot
there's a scene where the boss comes over and is like, "oh you use gnome? cool i use kde" and that's the end of it. oh and they mention a raspberry pi. show absolutely is like kicking dead whales down the beach ass.
but yeah these shows are lame i wouldn't watch some fictionalized account of it / tech stuff because its information, not something that requires a via-medium, media 'about it' to be transmitted, and the fact that its in a tv show means that 1.) it has no real weight 2.) the gubbernment already knows about it so therefore washed of any substance

Animatrix and the OG matrix movie are great. Maybe even that PS2 game. But I guess hollywood realized what just slipped through the cracks there and had to fill the 2nd one with pointless techno babel, the third with a generic fate of humanity plot and have the 4th retcon everything having been about trannyism all along.

>nail right on the head
More like a drill, eh?
There's some cool scifi stuff out there if that peaks your interest but plain IT stuff? That's difficult to write for especially if you don't want to lose too much of the audience on the way to your plot conclusions or joke punch lines. There's very little out there so you might as well just go and rewatch digimon again.

I watchedClass of '09 because it seemed like a short series and I had time to kill. It was actually pretty good,
>A group of FBI agents who graduate in 2009 deal with the implications of AI in policing, as the story ties together the early, mid, and late 2000s to reveal the roles they play in the system. The timeline is presented over past-future-present as more details emerge about what the AI is and who pulls the strings.
At times it almost seems like an american version of psychopass.

The original matrix was supposed to have a matrix-tranny character but WB made them remove it. I don't remember the 4th matrix being about trannies at all, I think you probably just were seething about the Wachowski sisters' estrogen the entire time you were watching the movie. The 4th matrix was a commentary on how stories are constantly retold, a meta-commentary on reboot-sequel hybrids. And since reboot-sequel hybrids suck, the movie ironically is one of the best reboot-sequels ever made despite being nothing special
