Share some of your favorite aesthetically pleasing asian movies. I can start and for my choice I will go with Fallen Angel by Kar-Wai Wong from 95

>ritual by hideaki anno good story and music but it gets kinda boring at the end imo >long day's journey into the night by bi gan some cool ideas about memory and it has a 1 hour long take sequence filmed in 3D >august in the water by gakuryu ishii an all-time fave, has some science fiction, spiritualism, coming of age and a great ost. very underrated some other that are more popular are millenium mambo by hou hsiao-hsien, all about lily chou-chou by shunji iwai and ichi the killer (if you ignore all the gore) by takashi miike

>>9783 The Taste of Tea (2003) Basically follows this japanese family in the countryside and it's super wholesome + Hideaki Anno is in it for a scene

>>9788 Wtf? I literally just pirated this and I was going to watch it today with my wife. We watched Rent-a-Cat (2012), Little Forest Summer/Autumn and Winter/Spring, Bread of Happiness (2012), and A Gentle Breeze In the Village (2007)

A Scene at the Sea directed by Beat Takeshi. Generally recent Japanese films fall into 2 categories: 1st grade theatre play or aesthetic masterpiece

>>9785 +1 for Augsut in the Water, also one of my favorite. I recommend Mermaid Legend. It's doesn't really have the neon aesthetic, but it's an intense and visually beautiful movie.

Still Life (三峡好人) Industrialization of China and it's effects on the locals as told from the point of view two people searching for their spouses along the Yangtze River. Hero (英雄) Wuxia film told from multiple perspectives with a twist on color theory.

Tokyo Gore Police, if any of you haven't seen it yet. I definitely recommend checking it out. Here's a video of the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VqtYgQ0ZXo

Perhaps someone can solve this this 10 year mystery for me. Around 2013 I was browsing some streaming site and popped in towards the end of what I'm pretty sure was a S Korean film, it also could've been Japanese, but the style/tone of it makes me think it was S Korean. Wasn't exactly lucid back then so my memory of the language is horrible. The plot is basically that a couple is keeping a man in their basement because they believe he is an alien. wtf is this movie

The Assassin (2015) by Hou Hsiao-hsien. It is literally a film version of eastern painting.

>>10296 I don't remember much of the movie besides that the ending was very weird. Still an intersting concept and very 2000s Japan. >>10298 While TGP is Nishimura's most famous work, every movie he worked on is recognizable by his visual style. Especially the lights create a surreal atmosphere that fits a horror movie, but is not meant to be scary. The bright colors underline the over the top acting and costumes well.

Café Lumière (珈琲時光, Kōhī Jikō)

"The Night Comes for Us," an Indonesian film that you've probably seen already. If you haven't, just imagine Hotline Miami without the masks.

《大侠霍元甲》Huo Yuanjia : The Battle of the Peak It's weapon duels are lit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXH_Y9DeZPM >>10473 How does it compare to THE RAID in its action scenes?

If you can handle graphic violence Ichi The Killer is definitely aesthetically pleasing. Everything from the character designs to the shots and transitions (the woman screaming while Kakihara breaks her fingers switching to Inoue screaming for heroin is something only Miike would do) and the costumes aswell. Kakiharas outfits in the movie are dope as fuarrrk but even Ichis weaponized gimp suit is cool. The manga fuarrrking rules to its definitely alot darker though.

>>9783 Train to Busan (2016) The zombie wave instinctively rushing at the train moving slowly out of the smashed-up trainyard still chills me to this day.

>>10443 Holy soykaf, that's it! Thank you! I'm so excited to see it again
