I'm currently playing VtMB and really enjoying it, even if it's clearly unfinished. The gameplay is so-so, but the world, characters and story are all very interesting. It's enough to make me want to get into the tabletop RPG, but I've no idea which edition to go with.
Also, what's the news on the sequel? Seems like history is repeating itself.

Yeah VTMB2 is not coming out anytime soon if at all. Hardsuit labs isn't working on it anymore the team was disbanded. I love VTMB its what got me into vampire media. If you like it I would highly recommend its tabletop counterpart just for the lore alone. VTM has an insane amount of vampire lore you can just comb through for hours. The community can be a bit crazy though but if you find some chill people to play it with the game itself is fun too especially if you enjoy the RPG side of the TTRPG.

I love vampire movies, of all monsters they are the most charismatic.
They represent carnal desire in it's purest form : blood. The relation they entertain with their victim is ambiguious : the victim usually appears as willing and doesn't really suffer from their encounter with the vampire, they are only afraid of themselves, their lust, the vampire only corrupt their innocence.
Suggestions : Blood for Dracula (1974), Female Vampire (already suggested by OP) (1975), Blood and Roses (1960), Martin (1977)

Yes exactly the carnal desire is what makes them so enticing and horrifying. Thanks for the recs I haven't watched Blood for Dracula and Martin yet but they both look interesting. Will definitely try and find them soon.

So I just finished martin and all I can say is wow that was an interesting movie also didn't expect the ending. Was he an actual vampire or not I still don't know and I'll never know. On the one hand he drank a lot of blood regular humans would have problems but on the other hand you have the catholic family that has been telling him he was a vampire for who knows how long. I love it when vampire movies never directly confirm if they are vampires or not. No sharp teeth and subtle or no powers is the best.

I would love to see or read a vampire story that was heavily steeped in medieval lore and esoterica related to the church, witchcraft, etc but set in recent times. John Carpenter's Vampires acknowledged this aspect but it wasn't the focus; hunting and slaying was the focus. Basically imagine if Umberto Eco wrote a vampire story.

Idk if its exactly what you are looking for but Martin is all about a Catholic family worshiping the old ways. Not inherently medieval but old Catholicism and its rituals related to vampires are very present.
Vampire the Masquerade has a lot of lore centered around christianity and the Lasombra clan in particular has an occult catholic church vibe to it.

Cool yeah... I saw the talk about Martin above and made a note to watch it. I've seen Romero's zombie movies and the quality varies but according to the internets, Martin was his favourite creation.

I'm sure the game will come out at some point, but the release will be another Cyberpunk 2077 situation; missing features, bugs a-plenty, a lack of post-launch support, among other things.

I've noticed. What I've been able to glean from the video game and what I've read online all sound very interesting. Which part of the lore do you like the most?

My favorite parts are the various short stories you can find scattered throughout the books. Pic rel is from first edition.

yeah Martin is really good would definitely recommend.

https://www.worldofdarkness.com/
Synthesis of 'Werewolf the apocalypse' + 'Vampire the Masquerade', IIRC we called it 'White Wolf' back in the day, but that was the publishing company?

The editions vary what are you looking for in a Vampire the Masquerade game? If its personal horror unironically the 1st edition. If its lore/metaplot and politics then 20th anniversary. If you need streamlined modern rules then 5th edition.

I suppose I'm looking for whichever edition is closest to Bloodlines in aesthetics and tone; turn-of-the-millennium with a decaying, gothic-punk style. I'm guessing that would be one of the earlier editions.

VtMB was based off of Revised edition., so try to do that one.

There's an old compilation CD based on the original V:tM called Music from the Succubus Club. Give it a listen.
