Come and See

Dox · 2021-06-17 16:08
Did any of you lainons see the movie "Come and see"? According to many crititcs it's one of the best war movies ever made. And I fully agree with that statement. I would tell you more about the movie, but pretty much anything you say about the movie can be considered a spoiler, so you better check it out yourself before someone can spoil it for you by unnecessary explanation.

>>8198 I started laughing at the scene with the biggest attrocities (you know which one). I think that the horror of what I was seeing short circuted my brain and it just started producing happy hormones. Great experience, I dont think I can see this movie again.
Void · 2021-06-17 19:04
>>8199 > I started laughing at the scene with the biggest attrocities I would not be surprised to find out that many NatSoc people fap to that scene to be honest
Otto Normalverbraucher · 2021-06-17 19:15
>>8198 Dunno if it's the best, but it certainly is easily up there in the top three category. It certainly hit hard because of how realistic they portrayed the experiences of victims of WW2 - of course I don't have any experiences of WW2, but it all still struck me with the thought "that's what [or how it] most likely really happened." I feel like the swamp scene captured the mood of the whole film. And I were especially impressed by the shellshock effect/experience and His aging. As for the question, which war movie I'd rate higher, I guess I'd have to say Stalingrad. Third place would probably go to Der Hauptmann.

>>8202 > As for the question, which war movie I'd rate higher, I guess I'd have to say Stalingrad. Third place would probably go to Der Hauptmann LMAO, your attempt to steer the discussion into promoting the "Germans were also victims" agenda is so obvious. No, Germans were not victims. Ever. They got what they deserved. All of it. Actually they didn't get enough. The vengeance towards Germans should have been more brutal. Way more brutal. We should have done to them what they have been doing to us. Only then the reciprocity principle would be fulfilled.
Hong, Guil Dong · 2021-06-18 07:56
>>8203 >LMAO, your attempt to steer the discussion into promoting the "Germans were also victims" agenda is so obvious. >neurosuggesting stating your own movie preferences makes you a proponent of a political agenda So, by that logic, if I had said I thought Der Untergang is the best war movie in my opinion, that would basically make me a member of the Nazi party, right? Sure, I admit that a huge part of the reason I liked Stalingrad was because it portrayed the German persepctive, which is still quite lacking in contemporary cinema (there's Valkyrie, Jojo the Rabbit (more of a comedy movie than a war movie, but still), Unsere Mutter, Unsere Vater (technically not really a movie, but whatever), Der Untergang, Der Hauptmann and Stalingrad, but that's about all I know of, unless you count Schindler's List, but I suppose it too focuses more on the victims of Germans rather than actual Germans), whereas there are plenty of movies that deal with the U.S. and British perspective, which, after a while, is simply put starting to get tedious.
Wintermute · 2021-06-18 09:53
norm1e garbage. You can stream from your preferred warzone for some real action. Lowkey boring though. Last time i bothered they took 4h to kill each other. Turns out reality aint a action movie.
Drifter · 2021-06-18 18:29
>>8204 You can keep advertising your German propaganda all you want, I'm not going to even give it a thought. Germans are evil.
Unnamed · 2021-06-18 19:15
>>8204 Nobody should make WW2 movies from German perspective. Making a WW2 movie from German perspective is like making a zombie movie from the zombie perspective. You should not make movies from the perspective of monsters.
Sabo Engle · 2021-06-18 23:12
>>8198 I watched it in 2016 for my film class, and then criterion released it so it got popular. but it was good cuz I bought a ticket for my dad to see it in the cinema.
Ivan Petrov · 2021-06-19 01:07
>>8207 >Nobody should make WW2 movies from German perspective. I disagree. However despicable it might seem to you, it is a vital step of confronting the Other, as there'll probably never be anything like natsoc Germany to act as an absolute Other that'd regard you - as conscious subject - something like an inanimate object. In this sense it is an unique opportunity to merge the Self and the Other into a total sameness by assimilating the representations of the Other presented to us through film, the most radical of examples being natsoc Germany. As for your monster part, I'd like to point out that there is an inherent part of you that you'd most probably regard as a "monster", but regardless of your classifications, it still is part of you, and it is your responsibility to accept that part of you, even if you didn't want to. That is why, still, the "German perspective" serves as an unique opportunity to assimilate that part of yourself into yourself in a safe manner, without giving that part of yourself the reigning position. That's just my 2 cents on the subject, so do as you will with it. Nazis were scum, but that's why it is so important for us to think through what they thought was "right".

>>8203 >The vengeance towards Germans should have been more brutal. Way more brutal. We should have done to them what they have been doing to us. Only then the reciprocity principle would be fulfilled. When camps were liberated, it wasn't uncommon for soldiers to simply execute the guards on the spot. That was justice. Turning the ovens back on and leading random Germans in would not have been justice. It would have just been killing. >>8204 The US perspective is just boring. Brits and Russians at least had some real skin in the game. Best war movies portray civilians.
H.R. Giger · 2021-06-19 01:14
>>8207 >Making a WW2 movie from German perspective is like making a zombie movie from the zombie perspective That sounds pretty interesting.
Agent Richard Gill · 2021-06-19 01:25
>>8223 > Turning the ovens back on and leading random Germans in would not have been justice. That would be the best justice and nobody can convince me otherwise. Reciprocity principle is the most important moral value to me.
Frank Garza · 2021-06-19 01:26
>>8207 I agree with >>8224, and that is part of the reason why it is so important for us to see the German perspective. Like >>8207 indicated, the Germans in WW2 were basically nothing more than "zombies", and anyone viewing a movie from the "zombie perspective" sees nothing more than walking dead roaming about the battlefield, without emotion and without sympathy. Yes, it is precisely for that reason why it is dangerous to shoot such a film, but it is equally important to deal with the subject for the exact same reason - namely because we can't (or don't want to) view them as anything more than zombies, living dead ready to be shot down by an elite American, British or Russian sniper or whatever.
Roger Pollack · 2021-06-19 01:27
>>8226 > namely because we can't (or don't want to) view them as anything more than zombies Because that's what they are. Germans are a pure manifestation of evil into this world and nothing more. Anybody who claims otherwise is a nazi scum.
Tyrell Wellick · 2021-06-19 01:34
>>8227 >Because that's what they are. Germans are a pure manifestation of evil into this world and nothing more. Anybody who claims otherwise is a nazi scum. Indeed, but there is a nazi scum deep inside you somewhere. All you need is the right kind of circumstance(s) for that part of you to emerge into its full glory. To acknowledge and understand this simple fact about yourself helps you with the process of avoiding becoming a supremacist of any kind, which, I think, is the only appropriate message to take from these kind of films, irrespective of your political leanings.
Hong, Guil Dong · 2021-06-19 02:10
>>8227 >>8228 has it right. If you can't understand why someone did such evil things then you can't understand how to avoid becoming evil yourself. Unfortunately that means you have to empathize with evil people. Refusing to do so is the easy way out.
