Eidos+Memories+Nostalgia

Eidos+Memories+Nostalgia · 2020-08-22 08:29
When I look at a photo or picture (not necessarily the whole, you can also part of it), then I start the process of memories in my head. For example, I see in the picture the sun is bright daytime or morning or sunset, large bright yellow stone brick walls and I remember my childhood my home my neighborhood. There are pictures that cause a sense of nostalgia and memories, but do not necessarily show a clear picture from the past, just feelings. In these pictures there can be anything (within adequate limits). 1. Do you have such images? Share it, please and tell us what you remember looking at your picture. 2. I would like to know the name (term) of this phenomenon

Escher's work does this for me. I think some of it is because his prints are a pretty common fixture in grade school math textbooks and classroom posters. Math always came quickly to me so I had a lot of time to daydream in class. I'd stare at some Escher pinned to the wall and imagine myself in that world. I loved how it made a fundamentally impossible world seem plausibly tangible, like a video game level or something (I loved SM64 for similar reasons). Then when I was a freshman in university I read Gödel Escher Bach and did a lot of acid, which kind of cemented Escher as an important figure in my life.

>>6473 >please and tell us what you remember looking at your picture. A windy, warm day, one of these big cities from video games, imagination of a big city and adult life when I were a kid. >>6478 This is so nice. Which country? We have similar views here in Poland This warm, orange sunlight calms me down.

this sun light, this grey roof, cool >>6479 >This warm, orange sunlight calms me down. yes, sunset is my favorite. this photo in me causes both sadness and longing and fear at the same time, as well as if you watch for a long time, then memory returns to me more and more, I kind of plunge into it and into memory and in this photo into this atmosphere, the atmosphere of sadness of longing for fear(black empty grey windows of houses), but at the same time it is all mixed with pleasant light memories.

>>6482 What's with this painting? There are too many flowers on this one, but besides this, I feel nothing. It's subjective I guess.

>>6481 God I love a good hidden urban vista. Like a little secret pocket in the world, containing all of a few people's life and love. And their view of the world. I adore that every nook or hole in the side of any run-down building could be this for somebody, it's so warm and humbling.

some pictures have a strong effect of a burst of memories, some are weak. On this, for example, he is weak. There is a feeling of some memories, but you can't catch on them, they are very weak, you try to strain again and again, but you can't catch on.

I strongly recommend you take a look at this book. It's about the only place I feel truly sorry I could never visit. Then again, that I haven't smelled this underbelly of human civilization is maybe part of why I think it's so romantic still. >>6515 >romantic these sunny colors, these colors of the walls, this atmosphere, I love such closed warm closed spaces, cool, the memory excites well. It brings back memories of my childhood, people of that time, good people, when everyone was friendly and kind and equal. Today I remembered about the photos of one place, which also excite the memory. It is called Akarmara.

>>6473 first one is because i've became attracted to war and the engineering marvel that the countries involved reached: the atomic bomb is another step in energy studies and achivements, also it evokes in me the mixture of the desperation of the disastrous aftermath and my comfort in sadness. The second and third takes the sadness and melancholia and express it with the peaceful stillness of architecture, the second with sort of brutalism in dark, cold colors and the third with the repetiveness of blocks and skyscrapers, alternating strong sturdy looking concrete with cleaner reflective glass. I've been collecting wallpapers, photos and picture for years because there are alot of them that evokes different emotions or nostalgia, so there much more of them

>>6523 >>6524 These are astounding. I want to go there so bad. I could take a motorcycle trip from there through Pripyat and Chernobyl, maybe. Used to explore an enormous complex of abandoned mental institutions in Long Island which looked kind of similar. Think it was called King's Park or something.

This painting reminds me not of a specific time but how I've felt in the past. It's like an urge to protect or enjoy the beauty of the world, but it's also really sad. I'm not sure if this is just due to the face but it makes me recall growing up and feeling like life was passing me by

A lot of pictures by Paul Klee evoke quite deep feelings within me. I grew up surrounded by art and we had a few artbooks about Paul Klee. His works fascinated 5 yo me. I was especially enchanted by the animals he drew. Later I learned that many of the pictures I especially liked were created in a time of fear (between the world wars). With dark almost brutal colours and themes. They invoke a feeling of melancholy nowadays, a world lost. but the thing is I love them for all the positive aura they also emit for me. On the one hand the brutal reality of this artist I've learned about when I got older and life gradually seemed getting tougher. On the other hand my mom gifting me with a childhood filled with art ,museums and creativity. This fascination , the smell of those old books from the 70s and 80s. Nostalgia has, as does melancholia , a positive and negative side to it. So do these pictures by Klee. His raison d'être , a real physical need to get his horrible fear out someway and at the same time my own positive memories connected with them.

I tend to notice I like clean visuals if they are bright like Mirrors Edge or if they are dark they have a more Comfort Of Immersion style like a Spa.

>>10259 Reminds me of when I used to lie on the rocks watching the stars come out and contemplate things. Seeing sailboats always has an indescribable effect on me. Its not quite melancholy, but not really a pleasant nostalgia.
