Music Posters

Jane Doe · 2020-05-24 04:21
I have been looking at a lot of awesome posters for punk shows and raves lately so I figured I would share them with you guys. I would love to see music posters you guys love as well.
Case · 2020-05-24 04:24
Sorry if the photos I post are small or low quality; they were like that when I found them. Hopefully you should be able to find higher quality versions of the ones you like using reverse image search.

>>5926 I have just been collecting them from all over the internet. I got a good amount of them from collections on Archive.org, Tumblr, Reddit some academic sources, and elsewhere but I didn't bookmark most of them, sorry. Also, that collection you posted is awesome; Idk why it didn't occur to me to check the-eye for this kind of stuff. Here are the few links I have bookmarked for flyers. They are mostly for old punk flyers: https://digital.library.cornell.edu/collections/punkflyers https://archive.org/details/1977CaliforniaPunkRockFlyers/page/n9 https://archive.org/details/BlackFlagCaliforniaGigFlyers https://hardcoreshowflyers.net/

>>5926 I found a folder on Soulseek a while ago, it might be the same collection? Also if I remember when I get home I'll photo some of the stuff I have on the wall, just shows I went to. I don't have many left from very long ago.

These give me very intense feelings of homesickness for something that I was never part of. Like a nostalgia for when things could be secret and hidden. I'll savor these feelings. Thank you OP
Switch · 2020-05-27 21:43
>>5953 There is actually a term for the sensation you describe: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hauntology Although when you say > when things could be secret and hidden ...the point of flyering was to let as many people know about an event as possible. Keeping things hidden is actually more of a modern online thing. Back then, getting the word out was more of a goal.
Batou · 2020-05-27 22:19
king gizzard had some sweet posters for their 2019 world tour. their in house artist made one for each city. i was lucky enough to grab one of the new orleans posters (bottom left) when i saw them back in september

>>5955 >...the point of flyering was to let as many people know about an event as possible. Keeping things hidden is actually more of a modern online thing. Back then, getting the word out was more of a goal. You're right, it's kind of paradoxical how I feel that way. I guess the feeling of being near something hidden is similar to the feeling of being near something that's passed by.

>>5983 A lot of these are from before, when it was the main way to promote anything, especially if you didn't have a hip weekly newspaper with reliable event listings. It was effective then because people kept their eyes open to look for them, and people on the street or in cafes would talk about them. >>5984 This is amazing, the Clash, Slits and the Buzzcocks on that one poster, and some teenager clearly made it in their bedroom with a marker, scissors and glue. Awesome.
