Slice of /cyb/
Cowboy · 2020-04-28 21:57
Post pictures of little cyberpunk aspects of where you live. It could be a piece of architecture, or closet where you keep old tech, or a view from the window. Basically, any visual thing that gives you that particular /cyb/ feel.
You can elaborate on the cyberpunk nature but that's not required
Pic related, the view from my window. I live in a tiny cramped apartment in the Chinatown of a huge city, so I get 'that' feel quite often
The Fin · 2020-04-28 22:35
Oh hell yeah. I used to live in an apartment on the edge of a weird, incredibly tall, super narrow "courtyard" like that. Just big enough for them to fit a dumpster at the bottom that carted out through the basement, so everyone just kinda shot their trash down through it. Kinda gross but it definitely had that low life vibe. Suсked when some babyѕһіt diaper from the 30th floor went splat on top of your window-box AC though.
There's an abandoned film set near where I live that's fun to skulk around it. It's kind of cyberpunk. Bonus points if you recognize which movie.

The classic architecture against the industrial/noir setting reminds me heavily of Blade Runner, great pics anon. Although I can't tell what film it's actually from. Are you from L.A.?
Another apartment pic, my gf's mother's altar.

Supposedly it's the set for the Battle Angel Alita movie recently made by Robert Rodriguez. I never actually watched it. You can probably deduce my general area from that. Hmm.
Whoa, that shrine is rad. I love the water meter bringing in some industrial feel.

There's a difference between "carefully preserving personal privacy online" and "fetch me my tinfoil hat, the CIA is reading my mind via my tooth fillings". You may want to check which side of that line you're currently on.

Metadata is real and digital cameras basically have written in their code who bought the camera, gps locations, date taken, etc. But, no one cares. Everyone lives where you live. Everyone bought that camera. It's the type of thing only an FBI agent would resort to reading so they would know where to look for X type of person, otherwise if you don't have anything else about you then why does the location nor time matter? Who even says the camera was bought with cash? It COULD have been, but what serial killer would be that stupid as to buy a camera with a credit card? Even if one did, says who the javascript, cookies, IP address, etc, is going to allow for connecting the dots?
I'm just saying. Moot either way. Because the anon is probably not a serial killer.

Here's where the passage leads. The whole tunnel is lit in green and super grimy, it looks like something from the Matrix.

Aquarius is born!
Those juvenile, the scoundrel packs
Whose yards and inches of cursed pavement
Beneath their scraped paws, had borne them
At last, their argument!
The time of land has come!

It feels like everyones holding their breath and don’t know how long it can last. There’s a slight tension between strangers on the street and especially on the subway. The sparse foot and car traffic and shelter overcrowding have left the homeless with a much greater presence on the street. Tenant/landlord relations are straining.
Overall, it feels like we’re on the precipice of something new and no one knows whats coming next.

This is a pic I took myself. People (students) live right next to this data center and I think it's one of the biggest in the EU. Also, the wind makes a sharp whistling sound whenever it blows because of the panels on the surface of the building, drives the people around it mad. And there's the constant whirring of the cooling units. It's basically like living inside a computer case.

That feel when the only pics that could do it is your deskspace because you live in an eminently boring pseudo-westernized suburban nightmare.
I'll try contributing proper pics when public transport is safe-enough to risk.

This is true but trivial. Stripping exif data is extremely simple. In fact, my cell phone camera is configured to do it automatically.

hahaha yeah i dont get it at all. it's not like steel shipping containers are clogging up landfills. i'd bet almost 100% of them get recycled anyway since that's usually what happens to steel. in the US softwood forests are plentiful and I don't see how insulating a steel box is going to be more efficient than a properly-clad balloon-frame house, and of course climate control is a much bigger contributor to the carbon footprint of a given house than its initial construction.. so long as you aren't tearing it down any time soon (idk how long the container homes are expected to last but if you're buying the thing from a recycler they're getting rid of it in the first place because its not structurally sound enough to be used for shipping).

the russian wilderness are just interesting to me for whatever reason. it's like a weird mirror-world version of the americam wilderness. honestly it sucks that our governments are enemies, because i feel like russians and americans have a lot in common culturally. like a kind of convergent cultural evolution that comes from living in an industrial nation with way too much fuarrrking land.
