Power lines

Crash Override · 2020-04-08 20:32
For images of power lines in the real world or otherwise. I don't know why but I'm strangely fascinated by these things.
Chan Siu Ming · 2020-04-08 21:32
This one is from Panoramio. I'll cherry pick other images for you next time.

>>5490 >I don't know why but I'm strangely fascinated by these things. I feel the same way as well. Seeing these kind of pictures makes me instantly think of so many things, like where is that electricity going to? Will it end up to the bedroom of a boy playing videogames or will it go to the refrigerator of a restaurant? I like imagining where the electricity will travel to, and what people will use it for... The same kinda happens when I see huge parking lots. What kind of person owns that car over there? Are those people passing by or do they live in this town? When did that one buy his car? Did he buy it with his girlfriend or when he was single? Does he have a couple at all?

You know me already. Power lines are so fascinating because they connect everything everywhere. They're in places almost no one visits, yet still exist.

I feel the same, OP. Power lines are one of my most favorite things to draw and look at and stuff. I would like to get a tattoo of a tangle of them or something.

Lainons should look for field recording music produced by wind in wires. https://wiredlab.org/wires/audio-recordings/
Jens Hansen · 2020-04-17 04:08
>>5490 I literally just realised the power lines are a metaphor for "Wired". Either that or the japs just really like power lines, since they draw and film them so much.
Spooky · 2020-04-17 04:26
>>5545 I think it's just a realistic depiction of their environment. Asian nations have different infrastructure codes and standards than the US and such. Lots more stringing things up in the air vs. burying them underground, since underground is often crowded and poorly-documented anyway. Like in Bangkok, there's enormous bundles of telecom and power lines everywhere. Even just within grasp from the sidewalk (not the high-voltage stuff though, they're not idiots). It's just a part of the landscape in many places over there. It was really interesting to see; I did some walks through Bangkok and Hong Kong just basically doing tourism of the crazy cyberpunk hardware and wiring hanging in the air and strapped to the sides of buildings. It was nice.

>>6366 Visiting a city with power cable tangles like this, coming from a nation with clean power lines, was surreal. How low they hang and how knotted they are. I'd hate to think what happens if they are damaged by a weather event or falling pole. It's morbid like a hoarder's house. picunrel

>>6869 That's a legitimate question too. I wonder if they simply patch up the main ones and just leave everyone else to fend for themselves?
Ender · 2020-10-21 22:45
>>6877 That's basically what I saw in Bangkok. Just huge, tree trunk-sized bundles of knotted telecom cables (running beneath the actual power lines, to their credit they didn't seem to screw around with the high tension stuff at least) and at the ends there would be just tons and tons of raw, snipped coax with rusted cores and apparently the just run new ones a lot of the time and it just gets absorbed into the trunk.

It's amazing thinking about all the work it takes to build them and that there's a continuous path from some power station to every building.>>7062

Not as cool as 'cyb' as some of the examples here. But this is a fairly 'famous' power line from my home town. It sits on top of a hill at the end of a cul-de-sac. Right next to the hill there's a highway, when I first started posting on this imageboard like 4+ years ago (fuarrrk), I used to sit on the hill drinking with my friends thinking about fuarrrking off down the highway to wherever. Had no real prospects at that point, and I guess that was the most 'cyb' I ever felt. I don't really feel that way anymore. This is my picture taken with a 35 mm camera. Right before I moved across the country working as a 'professional' software engineer. I learned to code on this imageboard and from resources on the irc. Now I feel kinda like a giant phony / dickhead. I don't come here much - mostly to post in the photography threads. I'll never forget you guys.
