Classical art

Thread for old-ass and old-looking art.

Ah fuarrrk, I did a lazy OP. I also should've said classic instead of classical. Sorry. I really enjoy looking at realist paintings, it's like a window into the past. Even though these paintings I posted weren't based on anything the artists were present for. I hate that the jay-pegs never do true justice to the atmosphere that these can have.

Ha I see what you did

Sometimes these ''classical'' paintings are really weird and anachronistic, but there is something nice about them yeah.

I love paintings from the Dutch Golden Age depicting large gatherings for some reason. There is often one or two people looking at (You) and suddenly, people from 400 years ago don't seem that much different from us. The floor in Rijksmuseum with these 3 paintings was the highlight of my stay in Amsterdam.

>>5087 If you love dutch paintings then you'll love French Impressionism paintings. They somehow grab the feel of 19th bourgeoisie lifestyle perfectly. The way the pictures are drawn gives this sense of easiness and washed up. The people that are dancing and in gatherings are all looking at each other and at the same time looking at you, I guess it's a European thing.

I don't know very much about the specifics of certain art periods or if pic related counts, but there's something about this kind of art with natural colors and figures posing daintily, as if they're made of glass yet still you can tell they're full of life.
Mario Rossi · 2020-02-15 17:31
dont let anyone see you looking at it

>>5089 For some reason, french impressionist art always seems harsh and unsettling to me, almost as if it were "too busy" for comfort. On the other hand, I love me some good magical realism especially with am emphasis on architecture. will post some when I get home

I really like the archetypal girl that Bouguereau uses in so many of his paintings as it reminds me of someone who looks similar. >>5093 Like that one on the end there, for example (also by him).

>>5087 Try to avoid using the term 'Golden age' as it's actually a stain in our past that won't wash away. The '17th Century' is what it's being called nowadays.

>>6517 there's literally nothing wrong with the Dutch Golden Age, enough with the "yikerinos problematic"

This painting along with the classical piece is comfy in a depressing and dreadful sort of way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbbtmskCRUY
