Google Panoramio
Joe Bloggs · 2020-01-03 00:45
Back in 2017 Google decided to remove Panoramio:
>The site's goal was to allow Google Earth users to learn more about a given area by viewing the photos that other users had taken at that location.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panoramio
I made an archive of 150 GB of all photos from there, because they were too comfy to leave them like this.
I have 271 directories, each containing about 500 files - you can decide which file from which directory I'll show you.
You can also give me a request and I'll try searching for it.
Let's start!
J.C. Denton · 2020-01-03 01:03
Upload it on Archive.org please
Ivan Horvat · 2020-01-03 01:34

>Upload it on Archive.org please
Why not just bury it in the ground instead?
>>>/Ω/22760
Anyway, I'm not the copyright holder, I don't want to get sued by over 9000 people.
I can do this, only if archiving through Tor is possible.
And you forgot to ask me for a photo to pick for you.
Just tell me what directory (1 - 271) and which file (1 - 500).
My thread, my rules!
If you'll get something cool, I can reconsider uploading it to the Archive.

What I like the most about my archive is that many of these places are different now, some of them don't exits. I saved moments from lives of thousands people, some of them are dead now, some of them don't remember, or lost their copies. It's so surreal when you look at them.

If you think you can get sued by uploading it to archive(.)org why are you uploading photos here anyway? Doesn't make sense.
Just contact the archive team they will help you upload it anonymously under their accounts.. they do know GPG.

I'm posting through Tor.
>Just contact the archive team they will help you upload it anonymously under their accounts.. they do know GPG.
If that's this simple, I can consider uploading it. I'm just dumb and have never uploaded anything to the archive, if someone could guide me, I'll be glad to upload it.
>>4705
>Yeah sure, putting a zip downloadable to public for decades is similar to putting it in the ground...
My disk, my archive, my computer harvested it for two weeks - I decide what to do with it. I'm not selfish, just wanted to play a bit with lainons. You are the first people that see these photos since 2017 or even earlier, ENJOY, this is especially for you. I don't want to spoil the fun.
>Too bad most people doing this kind of archives are morons.
Surely, personal attacks are going to convince me to share it with you :P
Instead of "thank you, we're glad you saved heritage of humankind", I get "you're a moron".
Liet Kynes · 2020-01-03 20:00

Uploading through Tor is slow as fuarrrk - 1.1GB / ~1h. I'll upload more, but not today. If you don't like the speed, I'll bury it in the ground and you will have to dig it out and upload it faster yourself.

Order? Haha, good joke!
There's no order - the photos were all in one folder just like I downloaded them using my script, but I accidentally deleted the partition.
I recovered the files using testdisk/protorec and it made about 200-something directories.
So that's the "order".

There is still the option to use OnionShare, which is over Tor and stupidly easy to use. Of course, downloading 150GB could take about an eternity over Tor + your computer would have to be the webserver, but I believe it's better than nothing?
Make sure to check the settings of OnionShare, make a persistent onion url and don't stop sharing after the first download. It's not P2P though, maybe ipfs would be better for that?

I am retarded. It IS - in fact - P2P, since you don't upload the images anywhere.

I wouldn't either but here I am posting the photos. Most of the people made and published the photos themselves, some of them are probably already dead.
As far as no harm is done, I don't really care and it's even an opportunity for future people to see how life was in the beginning of the XXI century.
Out of 7.8 billion people across the world, Panoramio preserved only a small fraction of the information. That said there's a small chance you're on one of these pictures.

I want to know where that bog in a crater is. Looks very unique and unexplored.
I'll identify some of these for you. Some are obvious like Times Square - I won't bother with those:
>>7821
Right: Maunsell Forts, Thames estuary
>>7819
Center: Temple of Hatshepsut. I've been there, and it's an impressive complex. The empress Hatshepsut had living plants brought from Sudan and Ethiopia for her "garden". It was also the site of a famous terror attack.
>>7799
Center: Turkey
>>7798
Center: Probably Romania because the car has EU plates, and not many places in the EU looks like that. Right is another I'd like to know more about. Looks like the view from below would be dramatic.

>>7794
Left is Russia

Can't help you much on that left one. It looks to be medieval Europe. Possibly Roman based on the arches, but I find that unlikely based on the wall thickness. 12th-13th c Western or Central Europe? My best guess.
>>5470
I have no idea where in China this is, but man does it look comfy. And I don't even like snow
>>5426

>>5424
Center: Bayon, Siem Reap, Cambodia. Known as the Temple of a thousand Buddhas because of all the carved faces.

Right is the whole reason I made this post. That has got to be in Ladakh or possibly Tibet. Those window frames are a dead giveaway.

OP here, the internet and lockdowns burned my soul and killed my motivation, I can't take it anymore.
Chans are full of people who rejected society and their humanity who see life in a curved mirror - the imaginary world they see is much worse than what I see outside my window and in everyday life. That's why I'm leaving for some longer time to clear my mind and to start being productive again.

That's because every photo has a little universe hidden inside and their interpretations are infinite.
What is finite is my time here and the number of my posts.
This is the end at least for some time. I'll read your responses and I'll upload more photos to the MEGA folder.
Stay warm and cool, remember to go outside sometimes, take care of your friends, make friends, learn to enjoy life and don't get burned on stupid things like I did.

I'm back after a break.
I improved myself by quitting some bad habits, reducing my internet addiction and studying more.
I found my inner fire and that's why I want to share it with you through Panoramio.
We also have a new user, so let's show our best.
Please, have a seat.

These places would make pretty good maps for computer games.

I'm posting photos from the directory 192, if that makes any difference.
Not sure what the last advertisement(?) is about, someone who knows the signs can tell me.

The bus to nowhere.
Nice green hills and a track, you can almost feel the smell of grass and the wind blowing on your face.
And of course mandatory cats.

One of the best threads on lainchan, good to bump
OP -- I am interested in your archive, I want to make a mirror in case you go dark. We could exchange it via onionshare if you wish.

Today I woke up thinking of this thread. I only come back here when I want to experience peak comfy. Thanks again OP.

One of those rare threads that makes you bookmark a chan thread despite knowing it might disappear one day. What an amazing collection!
I wanna see what's in 271 - 500 (the last file) ! Here's hoping OP is still around.
