What are some of the best webcomics to read?
Sabo Engle · 2019-12-04 14:01
Don't know about the "best", I generally have soykaf taste for everything but some webcomics I enjoy are: xkcd (very lain-related I think) Dinosaur Comics (absurdist humor) PhD comics (about science and life in academia, kind of stale and boring right now) Hark! A Vagrant (about H I S T O R Y, really great stuff but sadly defunct) Prequel (this is actually related to Elder Scrolls games, it's about a humanoid cat (khajiit) so it brings an unpleasant crowd, comic is fine anyway).
Technician · 2019-12-04 14:57
>>4442 Cyb wise, the obvious are : >Drugs and wires >Lovesyck and Lovelyss Besides, I enjoyed Shaderunners and Go get a roomie (though I'm not certain it got translated in english). There are some nice recs in D&W links selection, even if some of them are old/dead.
Crash Override · 2019-12-04 22:32
>>4442 There was a pretty good thread about webcomics I think, seems like it was deleted. Anyway I currently read and recommend: >Stand Still Stay Silent A finnish post apo comic with heavy fantasy and mythological themes. Probably my favorite webcomic right now. >Ava's Demon Colorful and artsy sci-fi story about a girl possessed by the ghost of a cosmic overlord. >Devil's Candy The school and daily lives of a bunch of monsters, mutants and other fantasy species. Obviously inspired by manga but with heavy american influences. Not that it matters but all of those are drawn by women artists, which kinda reflects in the art and writing to a degree.
Unspecified · 2019-12-05 00:08
>>4453 The artist for Devil's Candy is Rem but she collabs with a writer, Bikkuri that I think is her partner? The art in these is great. I don't know if Vattu is still going but it's very well made, sadly I fell behind and never caught up.
Turner · 2019-12-05 01:15
Pepper & Carrot is quite nice if you enjoy fantasy with no real plot to it. https://peppercarrot.com/
Void · 2019-12-05 08:51
https://pbfcomics.com/ Timeless classics You might also be able to find a ms paint comic called "electric retard", the most messed up sick funny stuff you will ever find.
Pulse · 2019-12-05 09:54
Ava's Demon (see above) for the superb art. Unsounded for the writing and world building. Kill Six Billion Demons for its manic energy. All three of these are "grand fantasy" stories. That means they can live on for a long time, which is good. I kinda wish I could find more weird horror stories though.

>>4455 I learned on Arisuchan (RIP) that the author only uses FLOSS software after Adobe screwed him over. He has FLOSS software art tutorials too. https://www.davidrevoy.com/article747/the-english-book-printed-project-production-report-2 >This project cost me already four time more than what I expected. Benefits of the books will never cover the months I did put into it, and the printed proof will make just increase the cost to a point where making this book with FLOSS already cost me more than buying a random Windows 10 laptop and pay a one month subscription for InDesign. But I'm doing it full FLOSS to reveal those issues, report them and aiming for quality always had a high price. Good soykaf.

Suicide Boy is my favorite. You can find it on Mangadex, it's translated up to chapter 51 as of posting this.

For a good time, read Life With Rippy.
Joey · 2020-01-08 05:19
Maybe not the best, but here's what I read regularly. Akimbo Comics - an existential reflection on the human condition from the perspective of some very flawed characters. Dinosaur Comics - T-Rex has pretty cool ideas and shares them with his friends Utahraptor and Dromiceiomimus. Existential Comics - famous philosophers try to solve an issue, which often comes to some inane conclusion, if not a comedic recounting of a true story. Whomp! - Absolutely stupid trash about an obese self loathing weeb... but I can't stop reading it.
Erik Johansson · 2020-01-08 17:08
Finished now, but A Softer World was a beautiful look at existence
Morpheus · 2020-01-08 22:39
I've been reading Colorless and it is good, post-apocalyptic world with magic creatures that try to kill humans, the protagonist gets in trouble very quickly very fast. You could get up to date with the comic in a day or two because of how it's organized.

I usually binge read webcomics and then stop reading them for a while so I can wait for updatesa and binge read others. I will list some worth reading, in no particular order: Swords Comic Existential Comics Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal Gone With The Blastwave (in hiatus since forever) Redtail's Dream (same author from Stand Still Stay Silent) Derelict (in hiatus) Space Boy Countdown to Countdown (has rebooted recently) Griefer Belt (has LGBT stuff, but not cringy) Jupiter No End (decent, but only if you can stand very cringy LGBT stuff) Randowis DNA Forgotten Sons Suihira: The City of Water Centralia 2050 A Better Place Seed Zom Com Pinch Point Ennui Go (very NSFW) Erotic themed Comics: Price For Freedom (porn, with decent world building and story) I Roved Out In Search Of Truth And Love (porn, decent art and world building)

>>4442 Not the best with summaries but I'll try to make it seem as interesting without spoiling it. Peerless Dad(Really strong person who became a father of 2 sons and 1 daughter who needs to protect them from danger) GOSU(Really strong person trying to live an ordinary life but his past doesn't leave him) Solo Leveling(An ordinary useless person who gets a OP power up(sounds like your average bs but it's actually pretty good)) Hardcore Leveling Warrior(VR game world with a twist(SAO but better imo)) The God of High School(Material Arts mixed with some super powers) Tower of God(People born in a tower and occasionally come in from the outside. The tower is ruled by 1 strong person and the MC wants to dethrone him) Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon(A literal skeleton that was summoned but can't die and relives his live over again if he dies(kinda like RE:ZERO)) Sweet Home(About monsters with good character development) Bastard(Read it, can't explain it. The twist is too good(don't read it if you can't handle gore)) Others that are meh so far(which I haven't read in a long time, might pick it up again): Revival Man(Keeps reviving but the time doesn't rewind, meaning he just respawns every day orso) The Gamer(Super powers with game type aspects and dungeons in it) Hope my explanations weren't too terrible, I'd recommend them all of them because they're really good. If not then I'd recommend Peerless Dad at the very least. Hardcore Leveling Warrior my personal fav. though, the art is really good too. (Some pictures of Hardcore Leveling Warrior, spoilers ahead though.)

Someone posted this in another thread and it looks interesting. https://www.yuumeiart.com/ >It's a graphic comic that is really good but the art design quality fell, but still a interesting story nontheless.

Dog Nigga is hilarious. Unfortunately it's been on hiatus for seven months, but it's still very much worth the read. >Rex is a half man half dog. He was created when a drunk old man forced himself on a stray female dog in the street. Because of his father, Rex has to live his life as a freak rejected by society. So one day... he’s gonna find that man, and r*pe HIM. https://chickenuggetstudios2.weebly.com/chapter-1---my-backstory.html

>>5607 >>5609 I remember when this comic was brought to light on lainchan for the first time a couple of years ago. It wasn't finished at the time and the author was releasing new pages really slowly because they got some deal for their headphone design. I recall that the general consensus was mixed. I think that the meme references were quite cringey and to some extent obnoxious. The story was not too bad but not too great either, it's your typical oppressive government regime 1337 h4x0r story. The only thing which I really liked was the artwork.

Lord Nikon · 2020-05-12 18:10
>>5794 No, Lain has a point. It's not about a lurker being too lazy to go to one website, it's about seeing a thread fill up with links while the people posting them are too lazy to write ten words or share a single picture. Why should I spend time clicking through all those? (What's worse actually are those media threads that are nothing but a hundred youtube links with no explanation).

Unironically Tails Gets Trolled. The art style is like kicking dead whales down the beach, there's a ton of misspellings, and the first few chapters are really stupid, but it's just astounding that such a dumb concept for a webcomic genuinely turned out to be a great shounen styled webcomic!

I'm surprised Gunnerkrigg Court (https://www.gunnerkrigg.com/) hasn't been mentioned yet. I think it shares this site's niche. It's a little over 2k pages of a deliberately constructed narrative exploring science, magic, technology, birds, and love. Great worldbuilding, characters, depth, page layout, etc. The artstyle in the earlier chapters can be a turn-off, but it shapes up pretty quickly. In sum: A very grounded transhumanist Princess Mononoke / harry potter mashup. Highly recommend to anyone who was dissapointed with the preachy pseudophilosophical rambling in Dresden Codak.
Chan Siu Ming · 2020-07-08 05:47
Surprised no one have mentioned hackles. It's really funny for the average lain since it is mostly jokes about linux and the like. http://www.hackles.org/ The authors shut it down in 2004
krad · 2020-07-09 02:26
> +1 to unsounded (http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/). Feels like straight fantasy at first, quickly swerves in some surprisingly deep soykaf with worldbuilding and nuanced variety of characters. Scumbags are great, the kids are great, the monster designs are pretty off the chain. > surprised not to see Modus Operandi (http://mo-comic.com/) here yet. I almost want to say it's a modern-fantasy-postmodern-political comic? which is a total word salad to say it does some pretty creative art deco soykaf with the art style and leans on cool propoganda tropes.

>>6191 >Dresden Codak I actually really like this one, despite the glacial schedule and occasional rambling. Even when the dialogue or story isn't that compelling, the art is always good. That's more than can be said for a thousand other webcomics. >>6217 >Surprised no one have mentioned hackles. You're surprised that an almost two-decade-old, even-lower-effort ripoff of the already-low-effort User Friendly somehow hadn't been mentioned? >>5098 >Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal I love this one. Sure, it's famous and it's trendy to like it, but it's consistently funny and it's got a lightning fast update schedule. >I Roved Out In Search Of Truth And Love Holy hell, this was way more fun than I thought it would be. Thank you so much! This was a blast to read through. I absolutely cracked up when the swamp-witch started baring her soul to her sorta-captives.
Armitage · 2020-11-16 18:22
It's been recommended elsewhere in this thread but Gone with the Blastwave is an excellent read. Very good bleak humor. >>4442 None. All webcomics are trash or meh at best. The only one I like is Sabrina Online.

I like fiction that tries to explore concepts outside of humanity. Non-human physiology, psychology, architecture, etc. and found Proper Care and Feeding for your Fountain to be surprisingly good. At times it really feels like an alien world filled with aliens and yet still making complete sense on reflection. Anyone know of more webcomics like this? Pics are some charming segments.
