Has everyone seen Other Waifu yet?
Christoph Waltz as always, was a joy to watch, and is the heart and soul of the movie. Jennifer Connelly was in fine Ice Queen mode, and Robert Rodriguez finally got to show what he can do with a real budget. Jackie Earle Haley got to use at least one Freddy Kruger line, and full props to Rosa Salazar for busting her hump training for the role.
If this takes off, it could be the new Star Wars, and we need a new Star Wars because they fuarrrking broke the old one.
I guess if they make a sequel it's going to be the Motorball arc, and the HORRIBLE BAD THING THAT HAPPENED, and maybe the third will be Den and Zalem? They'd still need a fourth to cover the ZOTT tournament and return to Mars, and that's not even counting if they want to go into the whole vampire dealio, and Alita's back story.
If they do cast Caerula Sanguis, I want Michelle Williams, she's got the face.

I went to the movie with the lowest of expectations after watching Ghost in the Shell when it released, and man, I think I kinda loved it. The adaptation was pretty faithful even tho I kinda disliked how they mixed the first 3 arcs from the manga.
I hope it does well, but I'm not sure I'd like to see a franchise based on american Alita. I'm bored out of my mind about star wars just as anybody else with half a brain, but I'd really prefer it if they could come up with a new thing instead of rehashing something japanese. Even when I liked it as a story and the visual spectacle, I still have some of the same issues I had with other movies of the genre.
This is kinda tagential, but imo, big hollywood studios don't know how to punk. Everything always looks way too polished, too clean. Movie Hugo was a jacked cute guy, their friends were always wearing clean clothes, and everyone was happy and wacky living in a literal garbage city. That's my problem with american movies. Way too much cyber, way too little punk.

Well, Rodriguez realised that Kansas is actually a really bad place to build a space elevator, so he relocated it closer to the equator.
At least that's his excuse for making everything more Latin, like he does with everything. So the Scrapyard is more of a thriving Barrio than a dystopian crapsack nightmare, because Latinos know how to be poor and SWAG.

I hate how they portrayed Nova.

to be honest i thought the writing was disappointing.
I enjoy cyberpunk, and all I had hoped for was cool visuals and maybe some nice world building, and while there was hints of both:
>the film lacked coherency.
>There was a shoehorned love interest plot, made glaringly obvious as soon as the handsome stranger helps the protagonist out.
The murderball tournament suddenly becomes the entire driving force of the plot(they introduce it early on, but why should it become a big deal? it's just an innocent game after all.)
>she's totally down for murder, but gets only a few fight scenes where she is used for what she's built for(I recall the alleyway, "there's hunters, and also shadowy people" cut short, who are they, why does the audience care?)
>the main character decides, the only way to beat the 1% is to play their murderous game until they let me come meet, and then murder them.
I'm sure it all made sense in the source material, but it is seriously cramped for time in the movie.
I haven't read the source material, but I'm sure it's much better than the movie.

>>There was a shoehorned love interest plot
It wasn't shoehorned, the love interest plot plays out a pretty important part in the Gunnm manga.
>>The murderball tournament suddenly becomes the entire driving force of the plot(they introduce it early on, but why should it become a big deal? it's just an innocent game after all.)
It's literally not? It's (supposedly) the only way someone from the garbage city could go to the floating city in the sky. Where you paying attention, anon?
