Can we talk about the cinematography behind Mandy, the latest film by Panos Cosmatos? He's the son of a sculpter and a filmmaker and with only two films under his belt he's already shown a distinct vision and a sure hand with direction.
His style seems very influenced by the psychedelic films of the 70s with some components of over-the-top filmmaking of the 80s. Mandy is like a fever dream, but he throws in enough visually that you can dig for deeper meanings.
Without knowing what films or filmmakers inspired him, who would you point to as a predecessor to his work? If you wanted to absorb aspects of his style for your own visuals (comics, posters, film, whatever) what aspect would you study?
