LET'S ALL GROK LAIN

Serious Lain Experiencer · 2018-10-19 21:15
it has been well established, on this board and others, and even in various other sorts of internet fora, that by the time of writing this that we all want to, as indicated by our often repeated commands to each other to let us all love lain, but seldom have i heard a significantly meaningful discussion, episode by episode, scene by scene, cut by cut, frame by frame, preferably formally, of Serial Experiments Lain. i'll start with an overview of the first part of the first episode: there are 2 major parts to Layer:01 Weird, the first i will call chisa, the second i will call lain. the first part, chisa, weaves 2 threads together, one of a schoolgirl in what seems to be a heavy mental state making her way through a part of the city to a rooftop and climaxes the thread by jumping off and interrupting the second thread of chisa, the second thread is of what seems to be a fatty salaryman and his kogal mistress, the man makes some advances and she declines them, but he persists, their kiss is interrupted by a body slamming into a lit street sign and disturbing another lit street sign which falls on top of the girl, some voices (whose bodies are not shown, perhaps shop owners/workers, i'm not sure whether it's many voices or just one voice) are disclaiming responsibility and knowledge regarding the suicide. then the second part, lain, begins. it is much longer than the first part and IMO much more subtle and complex. i'd like to focus more on perfecting the description of the first part "chisa" of the first episode before continuing to the second part "lain", and perfecting the description of the first episode before continuing on to next episodes (for the sake of focus), but if there is free will, it's up to you to choose what you will do. any thoughts on my description so far? do you think it's the greater and deeper understanding will be worth the time of the deeper, more comprehensive discussion? personally i think the deeper discussion will be fun and interesting in it's own right, but everyone has their tastes. please don't turn this into a lain meme thread.

>>2746 Chisa kills herself because she was talking to the guy who calls himself God on the wired. He convinces her that she doesnt need a body anymore. Thats because the guy who calls himself God is trying to build a group of worshippers. Its part of the reason Lain "commits suicide" at the end. I think it is just forshadowing.

>>2749 could you cite source material to support that? it's at least good form for the lesser informed, it helps everyone more easily convince themselves of the verity of the statements. for instance, i do not believe that lain committed suicide, i'm not sure exactly what you were refering to that could be considered lain suicide. i have a guess, but i thought those were her hallucinations. i'm pretty sure that in what we were shown, the God appeared only to lain

>>2750 Lain "commits suicide" when she erases the memories of herself from everyone's mind. She explains in the show that if no one remembers her, its as if she never existed at all. God doesnt reveal himself to her, she is God. She chooses not to accept her position as God and refuses to interfere with the world, which is why she "commits suicide."

Always wonder: what does he represents? Besides obvious: being lost in virtual world so much that you are not able to see hopelessness of own condition

>>2751 i didn't think that was final. i don't really see that as suicide because she still is, but from their perspective she never was nor was she ever in their perspective. I'm still firm my hallucination stance, this event seems like it's a hallucination. regarding these matters, at this time, in this context, I'm more interested in why the particular hallucinations that occurred occurred than i am in trying to understand or construct a reality where this was not her hallucination.

>>2758 first, let's consider some potentially relevant things. at what time in the film does he appear? off the top of my head it seems he appears in Layer:07 Society, in that episode we are shown multiple people related to it seems the "Knights", some already members, some trying to join, some going to join, all of which end up what seems to be dead. the character in carries a computer supposedly with connection to the Wired, he has augmented reality goggles it seems, and his devices are all visible to almost any causal onlooker. he also has an umbrella which seems to suggest his devices are not necessarily waterproof, or maybe he just dislikes being wet from the rain. he is neither clean shaven nor wearing his facial hair in any visually pleasant/aesthetic way. that with his showing the devices to onlookers seems ti indicate he lacks care for his image, or the value he perceives from this device outweighs the harm to his image, though this makes him an easier target for luddites or for people who might suspect he might be dangerous, regardless of whether he is or not. retrospectively, his mind and decisions seem to be ahead of the technology of his time, seeing how the same could be achieved now with less bulk more aesthetically. the thing is, he is not lost in a virtual world, not any more than any of us. photons perturb special nerves in the eye which chains perturbation along the nerve to the brain, pressure oscillations perturb the ear membrane which perturb little hairs in cochlea, which hair depending on what frequencies in the cycle of pressure, which perturb nerves sending chain reaction towards brain, 2 fluid of different density in small capsule (in ear?) so that acceleration effects it and probably nerve endings sense and send data to brain (my neurology not great, so i end description here, but you get main understanding), all these patterns are somehow eventually interpreted into a "story" of stuff in 3D space changing through linear time. it's all virtual: as far as i know, i don't know anyone who consciously feels all raw data to him and not uses simplifications like the 3d space through time. his virtual reality is just a bit different from ours. more interestingly, what is his virtual reality, what are the effects on his psyche, his understandings, his thoughts, his behaviors? it's like the inform bluepill nonsense.. either way it's a virtual reality, not a real reality and a virtual reality. may as well brownpill if you're into that soykaf.
