How to safely stream?

I've heard how it can be sketchy to stream things due to copyrights and whatever, but what are safer ways to do it? Specific sites, methods, etc. I only intend to stream for some individual friends, but I only know them online Maybe streaming general?

With downloading you get to actually have it and can watch without internet as many times as desired. But if you don't have storage space for this, or internet won't be an issue, than streaming is better
