Hi Lains, I hope you are feeling wonderful. Can you recommend me a good manga or anime in the Cyberpunk genre? Preferably manga; it's easier for me to read than to watch a video, plus I like it a little bit better. I've seen a few series: Serial Experiments Lain (obviously, and I even played the game, ha ha), Ergo Proxy (I loved it and it became one of my favorite series of all time), Edgerunners, Psycho Pass (which I honestly didn't like that much). Unfortunately I haven't come across any manga of the genre and I would like to find a hidden gem. Thank you in advance and have a nice day!

>>12605 Cyber City Oedo 808 (made me happy) Akira (I hear the manga is good!) Paprika (though not very punk-y, it's cyb3r) I don't recommend Texhnolyze anymore... to NOOBS! You won't enjoy it - watch much else first. It's both edgy, dark and genre-flic-ish, best left for late. Non-animation / live-action: Tetsuo the Iron Man. (It's very scenic and glitterboy-coded.) I'd go so far and call "Knight of Cups" a crypto-cyberpunk film... but it's very spacey (in the Euro film sense) and Americo-Jewish. For books, "The Quantum Thief" was a blast. I may read the sequal too. It's sci-fi but lays hard on cyberpunk. Foundation Trilogy is a brick but well-baked (it has the fictional science "psychohistory", which subtextually drags NLP into the domain of cybernetics). Jack Vance's "Planet of Adventure", similar but it's even more sci-fi.

>>12608 Oh and of course NEUROMANCER + sequals. Great stuff, prime OG cyberpunk. Books.

Many, many thanks for the recommendations, Lains! You are the best! >For books, "The Quantum Thief" was a blast. Intriguing, I'm definitely going to give it a read. Honestly, I thought Science Fiction in general would be a genre that only works in a visual medium; it's hard for me to think of how to write a fantasy technological scenario... "So then, John Doe placed his Telemetric Card in terminal #0A-04 to withdraw his corresponding Social Credit. He would use it to buy cheap instant food that degrades in 5 minutes. For insulting his Automatic Boss, he was subtracted Social Credit and could no longer afford the one that degrades in 15 minutes..." Or something like that. The same thing happens to me with genres such as Medieval Fantasy; I had no childhood and never played D&D :'-( Again, thank you so much for taking the time to give me recommendations, I wish you all the best! I will keep checking back in case there are more recommendations. (Kiwi, my favorite Edgerunners character. I love her, I don't care that she doesn't have a mouth)

>>12613 >I had no childhood and never played D&D :'-( Me either, but tQT opens with a guy stuck in a room, deucing it out against infinite clones of himself eternally... "Jean d'Or" is literally me, I realize that now. (Also the first few chapters of a book being a speed bump is 100% normal.) Have fun with it!

>>12608 >Akira Movie of it was god-tier; also had the first 3DCG ever in an anime. (See if you can spot it).

Hello lain, I'm sure you gonna enjoy Gits. The Ghost in the Shell movie from 97 is excellent, but so is the series Stand alone complex.
Technician · 2026-01-21 21:25
>>13052 um akshully, gits is anti-cyberpunk, since it's about the cops who don't follow the rules and catch criminals. Some mangos: >Eden: it's an endless world Follows civilization after a global pandemic. Humans have adapted to the virus by augmenting their bodies. It's got a lot of hard themes. >Appleseed It's more of a classic cyberpunk, but similar to GitS. >Steins Gate Not really cyberpunk, but it's about hackers and conspiracy theories, and time travel. >Zankyō no Teroru It has a unique animation iirc, but the series was pretty cyberpunk. >Armitage III It's also cyberpunk.

Is PATLABOR considered cyberpunk? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8Go0oEN1Qc

>>12605 GITS:SACs all of them are excellent. Real Drive is a yet another show about internet but its good. Crimson Pandora is a good posthuman show as well >>13150 literally anything sci fi is cyberpunk
