They are making a new Ghost in The Shell adaptation for TV. It's going to be animated by Science Saru, directed by Mokochan (whoever that is) and written by Enjoe Toh. I'll be honest and say I have high hopes for this one. Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rk27MbUoBQ8

I just really hope there wont be any 3D CGI, it looks promising.

Gits:SAC was the best. It's gonna be hard to top that.

Ghost In The Shell has been going in a decline since Stand Alone Complex, I don't expect anything. >>12585 It's an extremely midwit take to think CHI in anime is inherently bad because it looks bad most of the time, because anime doesn't look like soykaf 99% of the time, right? >>12590 science saru is led by the mind game/kaiba/ping pong director, they're good though kind of sell outs CGI doesn't bother me as much besides some obvious cases where it's a massive downgrade like the eva rebuilds but you can't deny the sexiness of complex mechanical hand-animated scenes. not that the SAC series didn't use CGI anyways.

I'm holding my breath because the last few tv adaptations past Stand Alone Complex were trash.

It's obvious at this point that Oshii's influence was what actually made Ghost in the Shell great. No involvement from him? Then I don't care.

>>12596 I completely disagree. I really like the humor in the GITS manga, something Oshii trashed in his adaptations. Yeah, his movies were deep, but not as fun as S.A.C. They tried bringing back that seriousness in Arise and it really didn't work

In fact 2nd Gig was basically the third time (and best executed) where Oshii rehashed his basic premise from Patlabor of a government organization orchestrating a coup by false flag events. The director or writer of the first season also said outright that he was trying as closely as possible to emulate Oshii.

>>12581 The CGI SAC that Netflix made was so horrendously bad that I don't have really high hopes for this one, but it's always nice to get new GITS stuff. I just wish some streaming service would show SAC so I could convince my normal person friends to watch it. That said, they could really won me over if they adapter the tone of the original manga. It'd be really nice to see goofy, Dragon Ball style Motoko. I love Oshii's GITS as much as any other lain but I feel like he ruined Motoko's depictions forever.

>>12652 >his movies were deep GitS '95 asks some questions where there's a lot to unpack but it's approach is incredibly shallow. He asks them point-blank and doesn't give you a whole lot to chew on. It's ironic because the things he cut from Shirow's original work (the characters being hedonists who love their line of work, goofy and drinking on the job one moment, deathly serious the next) would do really well to explore what it means to be a human/individual and how a person with all these cyborg prosthetics and being an extralegal hit team effects your outlook on life. Also the first few episodes are out and I'm really enjoying the adaptation.

how hard is it to come up with a new fu warking idea? ghost in the shell is really 攻殻機動隊 super police force cops and military worship the gits movie was just the Big Studio picture that got funding, ripping off countless surrounding small OVA studios >>12596 he sux, shirow is the real genius
