>>12003 I suggest Cop starring James Woods. It is a neo-Noir from the very early 1990s.
Gyula Kovacs · 2024-12-26 13:29
>>12003 Wolf of Wall Street and Falling Down.

>>12000 >>12003 Watch NOSFERATU (1922) It's black & white while still spooky.

>>12003 A film that positively surprised me was City Slickers (1991) though I went in with low expectations. The premise is that it's about three guys in the city who lead miserable lives. One sells airtime for a radio network, another works early mornings at a supermarket and has a bitch wife, the third is a more free-spirit kind of guy. In the midst of a mid-life crisis, they do this 'retreat' where they and a bunch of other city people lead a herd of cattle interstate for farmers. It's sparingly comedic, sometimes cheesy, but overall good. A point of excellence is it's dialogue, which feels very grounded compared to other comedy movies. The way the men talk with each other feels real, never chauvinist either.

Read ELECTRIC STATE (the book) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Electric_State Do NOT see the crappy movie vaguely based on it.
John Doe · 2025-04-05 05:06
I like the movie Brother (Брат), I think it depicts what Russia was like after the fall of the USSR very accurately and the movie feels almost real. It remembers me of Taxi Driver because, like Travis Bickle, Danila Bagrov doesn't seem like some superhero or supervillian. You can watch it even on YouTube or just download it from YTS and download the subtitles from opensubs.

Belladonna of Sadness and Son of the White Mare is a double feature I highly recommend.
Case · 2025-04-24 17:49
>>12509 Those originally aired together? Hard to imagine from how slow paced Belladonna of Sadness is I couldn't imagine watching back to back. Good film though if you have the patience. I have yet to watch the other to comment.
BloodCat · 2025-11-05 00:14
>>12018 >Joker Just don't watch Joker: Folie à Deux. It sucketh to heck and the musical element really feels tacked on at the last minute.
Rick Deckard · 2025-11-07 04:24
I heard "Twisted Metal" (the games series) got a movie. I wonder if you find something relateable in Sweettooth. As for sad animes, try Perfect Blue. If you want to see a movie that slightly deconstructs action hero comics with that modern "literally me" vibe, try Green Hornet (the 2010s' movie).
Molly Millions · 2025-11-08 03:28
>>12509 Belladonna of Sadness may have had the most beautiful visuals I've ever seen in a movie, but the raping and raping and raping and raping made me so exhausted that I honestly don't think it's worth it. I think I'll watch Son of the White Mare, since it doesn't seem to have any rape scenes
Sipho Nkosi · 2025-11-08 04:58
I know these are all similar movies but if you haven't seen at least one of these movies then you're missing out imo

F1: The Movie ~ Jerry Bruckheimer isn't my favourite director but this is his style of film. Frankenstein ~ Del Toro; nuff said.

>>12932 >Frankenstein ~ Del Toro; nuff said. absolute goyslop, trashcan of a movie. frakentoro is about as good as miyazaki's moving castle-- which is to say: it's bad. >>12915 snatch is big fun. >>12910 >As for sad animes, try Perfect Blue. I wouldn't call it "sad", but it is incredible. For bonus points, watch it on 2nd plat DXM.

>>12003 I realize OP's request might've already been fulfilled or become redundant even to himself, but I wanted to just share here something that I discovered by random browsing, but which opened me to a whole new world or one could even call it dimension to cinema (I would've posted this in perhaps a little more appropriate thread, but I couldn't find the one where the OP requested a movie about a cat with glasses coming to town, which would have been right up there along these movies, so this'll have to do). So, I'll name-drop a few extremely interesting films I bet not too many have seen here, even though most have seen or become familiar with the top of the creme "underground" or cult classic films (many of which were already mentioned by OP). THE MYSTERIOUS CASTLE IN THE CARPATHIANS <https://youtu.be/zca9nCm8McY?si=qK3VVapdv-RNrZ5P> VISITORS FROM THE ARKANA GALAXY <https://youtu.be/5TFKvWqukEs?si=2l4xAJnV_8imguxc> SATANTANGO <https://youtu.be/npqnKe8O0dE?si=GJdr5EWXHthNMkOQ> KIN DZA-DZA! <https://youtu.be/cjgucYgWIoQ?si=DAUFkpBP4o7We5ML> KINGSAJZ <https://youtu.be/jCJ7pHxKlEM?si=gQomB9WKiCmyqDGg> DAISIES <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vBGo95SJz4> I haven't watched them all, but I definitely will as I get around to it. Recently watched Satantago, which was like a 7h film. And no, definitely do not regret watching it (it might even fit with OP's sort of depressioncore movie recommendations, but I suppose it's a bit too artsy or action-free to suit that specific taste or style). For me, next up is either Visitors From the Arkana Galaxy or Kin-Dza-Dza (never realized how much sci-fi movies the Soviets and Eastern Europeans made way before anything "relevant" or culturally defining ever came out of Hollywood within the genre). Wait a second... no Stalker mentioned? Definitely go see Stalker. Or pretty much anything by Tarkovsky for that matter.
