Thoughts on A24, Saviour of cinema, or faux-revolutionary film movement? Or, whatever else. Discuss(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, You should always elaborate on your opinions rather than just spilling the soykaf.)

>>11716 They clearly put some effort into cinematography, set design, and the general aesthetic qualities of their films. That said, the ideological content of A24 films is essentially identical to the ideological content of mainstream Hollywood films (though, A24's popularity makes it arguably almost as mainstream as the films I'm comparing it to). If we're judging things superficially, you could say that A24's films are better than your average film, if only for the increased attention to the aesthetic qualities that I mentioned above. If we're judging the messaging of A24 films relative to other films, the meaning of any given A24 film's plot, or anything other than their visuals in a vacuum, I don't see a meaningful difference. The entertainment industry is dominated by half a dozen big conglomerates and they wouldn't let A24 operate if it actually posed a threat to the modern corporate cinema. If A24 was going to make their lives harder in a significant way, they would likely exercise their influence over the industry to make it difficult for A24 films to attain distribution and so on.

>>11716 A studio making bank off pretentious retards living off of their parent's trust fund. There are some good movies in there, but most of it is just soykaf.

Its just another studio like any other. They've produced some good stuff but its always like this for up and coming studios.

>>11716 how the fuarrrk did this not get a blue text warning? talk about low fuarrrking quality >>11719's opinion seconded. i'm a big a24 fan, their stuff's really good, but most of it i've never heard of, much less watched(USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST, Do not whine and cry about 8chan, lainchan.jp, "quality", "invasions", "newfags", mods, bans, or kalyx outside of /q/.)

>>11716 "artsy" movies for people who don't actually like those kinds of movies. show the type of people who watch these things some Claire Denise, some Fassbinder, some Bergman, they'd fuarrrking hate it. a couple of the movies Lanthimos did were alright but that's the best I can say for it.

>>11720 i just wanted to see the opinions of others, mate ( and I guess I did end up getting that blue text warning)

>>11748 apparently, so did i. guess we're reconciling our differences in being dumbasses that like this studio. I'm big on Hereditary, other than that, i don't think there's anything groundbreaking. check out Suspiria the remake, if you're a fan of horror in general. Incredible stuff, almost on par with Hereditary.

I like some stuff they've worked on (The Curse, Hazbin Hotel, Midsommar) but they've also got some serious garbage (Long Legs was really bad). It's like >>11719 said. Same as any other studio. Some of the projects they attach to are great, some are awful.

>Three tickets for me, my wife and my wife’s son for the newest A24-produced, genre-redefining, trope-subverting, atmospheric, dark and eerie, emotionally draining, gut wrenching, aesthetically heavy craft by post-horror auteur with an arthouse edge, dread-inducing, suspenseful build up with strong character development and gradual feeling of escalation, bone-chilling slow burn with “say more with less” approach and soul-shaking, blood-curdling, skin-crawling and nerve-wracking exercise in persistently looming dread where tension and anxiety permeates every frame as movie reaches its nail-biting, jaw-clenching and paranoia-inducing final climax, free of any cheap gore, cartoonish CGI or infantile jumpscares horror film, please.

Overall I like them, but the studio has the same problems you'd get with anywhere that uses a lot of young directors. Because of internet and technology they're able to mimic a lot of different aesthetics. Because the film school pipeline is for such a narrow band of society though, they very rarely have anything interesting or unique to express. You just get a lot of reliance on pairing novelty with aesthetic, which of course comes off as shallow because the creative isn't really in a position to tell you anything about life.
