Not sure if this is what you're looking for but i've been reading this book for some time now and i like it.
I also have an archive from other imageboards of art tips and reference pics, i'll probably post them once i get to my computer if i don't forget. (Reminds me that i need to organize the archive)

yes that's exactly what I'm looking for! I skimmed through it a bit and I must say you found some goddamn quality, also can't wait to see the archive too!
Cereal Killer · 2023-04-24 14:42
That's an interesting topic.
Thanks for the two books so far, lain.

thanks lain!
>>10588
also have you organized that archive yet?
Tank · 2023-05-01 07:46
I'm back, sorry for the long wait, I had some personal stuff to deal with and my HDD got corrupted somehow.
I have the archive on my proton drive, the password for the zip file is "lain_art"
I recommend you to go check /Loomis/ over at anon.cafe, they have a lot resources.
I also recommend you to download the archive as soon as you can because proton drive has a 500mb storage limit on the free tier and I might delete this at some point.
Tell me if you have any issue opening the zip, I will be glad to help!

thank you so much! sorry if you felt I rushed you :(
I will see what I can contribute as well! and thanks for telling me about Loomis too!
Crash_Overflow · 2023-05-02 16:29
hey maybe instead of one person with one proton drive maybe we can make a lain art resource torrent? build stuff up over time and shi like that
Morpheus · 2023-05-02 16:50
Art is impossible man. I'm just a talentless retard. Can't draw can't write can't code. Worthless.

oh yeah also I forgot to say, everything downloaded just fine, password worked, all of the files that ive checked are in tact, this truly is a solid collection

I don't have years. Im just a waste. Everyone asking me what I'm doing with my life and I have no answer.

Yes that would be really cool to have a torrent but I'm not sure if enough people are going to join the torrent to keep it alive since lainchan is not the imageboard with the most traffic.
The best way would be to keep the archive somewhere like it's being doing currently. Maybe moving it to mega would be better to fix the storage issue?
Crash_Overflow · 2023-05-03 10:13
>>10633
fair point mega would be easier, but im sure a torrent made by a couple people and downloaded by a couple people wouldn't be to hard to manage

Anyone can draw. There's a mental trick you can use to draw anything you see in front of you. It's like turning a switch.

I would like to get into pixel art and sprite creation, but i have no talent, skill or training. So where and how do i begin? What's the best place to start?

Get a good book on taking digital photography & learn minor image editing.

Also I decided to say fuarrrk it and make a torrent, more of a secondary option in case the mega gets nuked for copyright or something

hey quick question is anyone having trouble with the mega link? I was told there was problems with it and I just wanted to make sure

MEGA requires the use of their app to download 6-gig files. I'm not sure what the threshold for web-downloading is on that site.
roxie · 2024-04-14 06:46
Probably has some overlap with the previous mega in terms of books, etc, but it's an old 8ch ref folder I've got a lot of use out of.

Unfortunately, I think there are some DRM-enforcement bots that search chans for mega.* links to shut down.
I think the typical defense against them is encoding the link via base64.

Nice. the mig-29 fulcrum art is from Atamonica right? They make really cool character designs for warplanes.

I'm afraid they can decode base64, the only true solution is torrent and blocking them by IP and user agent
Neo · 2025-01-09 15:41
>>12071
Magnet links seem to be a good solution, better than having your cloud folder nuked out of nowhere for sure.

>that "shading tutorial"
Avoid tumblr artists like the plague for any art related advise. Aside of pretending to be unique and quirky while standardizing their "style" more than pre-expressionist painters, they genuinely have no clue what they're doing and hence have little to offer besides what shortcuts to use in Krita. And the people that CalArts is soykafting out probably think that chiaroscuro is something on a Starbuck's menu.
Why would you have the drop shadow of the head as both a value fade and also some very bad line hatching? Why not use proper core shadows or would that make the other hacks angry at you in this race to the bottom?
You're genuinely better off looking into James Gurney or Scott Robertson for creating the illusion of volume and light if you can't into japanese or korean art books. And then stylize to your heart's content once you got a grasp on that.
This is why AI art is winning right now.

>Avoid tumblr artists like the plague for any art related advise.
Aw cmon lainon surely it's not that bad-
>Looks
Ah.
I won't soykaf on the style used because it certainly has a place in toons, but it's incredibly contextual. On it's own, it looks like soykaf. Should've just stopped at step 2 or 3 with a white background. Type "shading technique" on google and you got pic rel. Start there. Digital or not.
If you want value from "tumblr artists", look at the porn/fetish artists on there. All the ones that stayed since the porn purge are unhinged. They make banger tutorials if they decide to make one. There's one fatfur that made one with how to draw fat on a character. It sounds fuarrrking autistic but it genuinely helped understanding how fat works on the body. They sourced a book called "Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds" by Michel Lauricella.
