Performance Art

Any lainons here ever been privy to some live performance art? Unfortunately in America, most of the current underground scene is exclusive to the Upstate New York area, but there's a whole world of performance art out there to discuss.

>>10453 I have yet to see live perfomance art that is both not soykaf and not done by rich kids.

Alex Jones is the only decent performance artist I've seen.

>"I used to do things like stick severed chicken's heads over my penis, and then try to masturbate them, whilst pouring maggots all over it. In Los Angeles, in 1976, at the ICA I did a performance where I was naked, I drank a bottle of whiskey and stood on a lot of tacks. And then I gave myself enemas with blood, milk and urine, and then broke wind so a jet of blood, milk and urine combined shot [out and] then licked it off the not-clean concrete floor. Then I got a 10-inch nail and tried to swallow it, which made me vomit. Then Cosey helped me lick the vomit off the floor. And she was naked and trying to sever her vagina to her navel with a razor blade and she injected blood into her vagina which then trickled out, and we sucked the blood from her vagina into a syringe and injected it into eggs painted black, which we then tried to eat. And we vomited again, which we then used for enemas. Then I urinated into a large glass bottle and drank it all while it was still warm. This was all improvised. And then we gradually crawled to each other, licking the floor clean. 'Cause we don't like to leave a mess, y'know; after all, it's not fair to insult an art gallery. Chris Burden, who's known for being outrageous, walked out with his girlfriend, saying, 'This is not art, this is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen, and these people are sick'."

I've seen a few. There's a venue in a city I used to live in that hosted a lot indie/noise/weird music artists and they'd often book performance artists to open for their acts. Not much happened that was memorable. It was mostly just people being weird. I did once see a woman put bloodletting needles into her face, cut herself with razorblades, rub the blood all over herself, and paint a picture with the blood. That was maybe the most extreme thing I saw.

>>10498 I used to play with my own soykaf on camera, and danced around naked in a pig mask on stickam when I was 13. Was I a performance artist?

If any of you guys want to invite me to a secret performy artsy club feel free

>>10459 At least back then they were pushing boundaries and experimenting with human bodily experiences (the above description isn't to my liking, to be frank, but I do look up to the performance artist Marina Abramovic, who has done, well, not that disgusting things, but things that are somewhat similar in the sense of being "pretty out there"). These days we've got slam poetry, vagina monologues, sharks in formaldehyde, and a bunch of other meaningless junk they shove down our throats as "art". No skill, no thought, no feeling (or, if so, nothing that connects to a history or has any appeals to universality), only post hoc rationalizations and mechanical productions geared towards market consumption, fashion appeal and profit-seeking. It's a dead culture all the way down...

My friend's younger brother went to the best design university in my country. They had an exposition one day and I was invited. One of the many things I witnessed that day was a live performance of 5 people covered in a green blanket pretending to be a bush. They made incredibly awkward hand gestures, it wasn't at all convincing and I genuinely had to try to stop myself from smiling while watching it. All around me everyone was looking at it so seriously. It wasn't as devoid of value as OP's video, but it really made me question what those people were learning and valuing. At least renaissance artists were taught real skill - composition, lighting. The focus was on creating a work of beauty. The paintings spoke for themselves. Art now is an 'expression' of completely valueless individuality of the artist, who himself is typically a completely indistinguished human. It is no surprise that contemporary art is so despised by the masses - it is devoid of all value that is of any interest to the average person. Yet despite this it still demands respect.

>>10608 Stop pearl clutching, performance artists aren't coming after your precious "real art". Most people dont even know what performance art is, it's in it's own little bubble, performed in only a couple obscure underground nightclubs. btw pyw

>>10612 Anon didn't even say anything about it being degenerate in any way and you still just jumped to "pearl clutching" Kek, pottery

I wanna have a tinder date at a performance art event. Any massholes that aren't from the boston area know where some underground clubs are at?
Marly Krushkhova · 2023-05-22 11:21
>>10612 >performance art is something performy that's being performed only around performance people. you just don't get it I dare that person to turn that photo into a series. Next at the red square or infront of the DPRK main building. Then maybe I'll start paying attention to those self important cretins. >>10669 One way to find out whether your date shares your sense of odd humor. I can not name you any place or venue but I wish you the best of luck!

I once went to an opening of some art exhibition and suddenly there was a group of women doing some performance art. Basically it was 5 women screaming at each other for 30 minutes, it felt like something from The Simpsons.
