Häxan (1921). Swedish film about witch panic through the ages. Primarily focused on European witch hunts and lore rather than American puritans. Includes some scenes inspired by church writings in the middle ages about their interrogation and trial techniques, some witch lore, and comparisons to what was, at the time of the film, called hysteria and what we now call mental illness.

>>10451 OP here. I watched Caligari (1920) and damn it was really good when it came to the stage design and acting..... very lacking on the story front however, it was pretty predictable. >>10452 Looks very interesting, I watched the trailer and it's crazy how they might have influenced the image of the satanic panic later that century, might just be a coincidence or someone did it earlier. >>10457 I have seen that famous clock scene, gonna watch it soon. Right now all stuff I watched was from Europe, kinda sad to see how Europe's cultural influence was all shifted to the USA all thanks to that failed painter.

>>10460 >thanks to that failed painter he contributed but blaming it all on him seems a little trivializing >everything by chaplain, keaton obviously they both did talkies too, and semi talkies like modern times >battleship potempkin >birth of a nation >man with a movie camera

>>10451 Faust (1926) and A Page of Madness (1926). You might find The Good Old Naughty Days interesting also, it's a compilation of silent pornos.

>>10463 >The Good Old Naughty Days I watched the first 5 minutes. >lesbian stuff (did not expect that in the 20s) >film speed to the roof >classical music while a dude catches 2 women doing it Our great-grandparents were pretty nasty ngl. Also according to the Wikipedia article, normal cinemas could show this to a 18+ audience. Guess the plot must be good.

The Passion Of Joan Of Arc is worth watching, if you either speak French or have access to English subs
