vtubers
Unnamed · 2022-12-09 18:25
does anyone here watch vtubers? i think it would be cool and fitting to have a vtuber thread here because having virtual personalities entertain you on the internet seems pretty cyberpunk to me. you can talk about anything relating to vtubers
from the tech involved to the vtubers themselves.
Dozer · 2022-12-11 08:28
Being entertained by vtubers is gay normal person soykaf. On the other hand, using Ai chatbots and visual effects to profit off others is pretty classy.
I think a chatbot could do just as good as half these vtubers. But virtual entertainers aren't new. gorrilaz and hatsune miku were "musicians" way before the vtuber craze.

I mostly watch Vtubers when I watch livestreams or livestream recordings (VODs). I mostly like the style or particular sessions when they play horror games for reaction or do wheels of punishment.
One streamer I like on Twitch, Leaflit, actually has a streamer gun IRL and has shown her gun collection using a hand camera. Also, I enjoy watching Filian who uses VR to do the streams and does YLYL.
Nell · 2022-12-21 10:05
Cyber yes but what's punk about it?
Immortal · 2023-01-24 00:47
Once I began watching Vtubers, I only had more show up on my feed. I am mostly concerned with the legendary characters that are arising from this era. There's already the Grim Reaper, Death, Sayton, Beelzebub, Nyarlethotep, Some undying LORD, and then the ones who've yet to emerge for the coming days. It's my opinion that the next singularity will be with everyone behind an avatar.

I watch Botan for japanese listening practice. Her laughs are nice and she seems pretty genuine

I think that the part that makes it seem sorta cyberpunk is that it allows people to build an online persona in a much fuller way without having to reveal your real identity.
It reminds me of a subplot from Psycho Pass where a man kills virtual influencers and uses their accounts/models to imitate them.

The punk part is how it's all a grift to extract value out of alienated lonely men by offering them an entirely fake virtual alternative, often ran by massive corporations that carefully curate and manage the image of their female talents for maximum profit at the expense of the mental health of both their talents and their viewers

as if
that's spoken like you're the target audience of that conspiracy.
>neurosuggesting everyone is a vampire who has an avatar
Just like any media, Vtubing is manipulative and beautiful, thought provoking and silly, money hungry and lucrative. It's every person's job to tailor their feeds to their preferences, so get with the times

i watch neuro sama which is basically an AI vtuber, very interesting stuff

Neuro sama?
The one that blows out delusional lowly humans with her unbested and superior logical algorithms?
Nobody important · 2023-01-28 07:21
I never quite understood this phenomenon. What makes them so entertaining? It's literally just a regular person playing games with an anime avatar.
>>10014
I agree, chatbots can be very fun to talk to and are actually interactive.

Any alternative to the scourge of modern 3D woman is a good thing, if you ask me. Better to love something that isn't 'real' than try to love something unlovable.

Not that anon, but it really depends on who you are talking about, from my experience plenty of them are not that bad and it's mostly politics and the monogamous idealistic (i.e. 'American dream') culture that tends to warp our perspective and expectations of others in general. Consider if you will that even if you are just an average person, there are plenty of younger girls who probably look up to you. Sometimes just being older and having life experience is all you need. How you choose to love them is up to you, it doesn't always necessarily have to be a relationship in the traditional sense. In the context of this thread though it's also worth noting that streamers and YouTubers who don't use avatars are still mostly playing a character, sort of like AVGN. There are still a small handful that don't exaggerate things for the camera, but most of them are really just performing for their audience. Sorry about the blog post

This post reminded me that I used to watch dot_lvl, EmyFails, SparklingStrawberryMilk, Voxandra, and a few others on Twitch back when I used to watch it more often. Not a whole lot of retro gamers use an avatar, but those are the few I remember who do.

Well, I'm not saying they are all bad, but most of them are on the inside. And the rest get scooped up by whatever guy happens to be lucky enough to meet them first. At least in my personal experience, and I've had a lot of experiences.
I mean, its one thing to have a casual friendship with a female, anyone can be friends with anyone, but once you actually get involved with one on a personal level it becomes apparent that they are fickle, selfish creatures who generally only care about themselves and will turn on you in a heartbeat if they think they will be happier with someone or something else (spoiler: they wont) or find someone who can buy them more soykaf.
Sure I might just have had exceedingly bad luck with all the girls I've been intimate with, but that is statistically unlikely. And the fact remains that all these awful people had initially presented themselves as kind, loving, thoughtful and fun individuals. But it was all an act, each and every time, it is disgusting. As a result, I am now highly suspicious of the ways people present themselves because in my experience it is mostly just lies and manipulation. At least with 2D girls you know what they are and know what they aren't.
It is really sad, because inherently I have a lot of respect for women in general and for the divine feminine, but society and culture has degenerated to such a degree and women are far more susceptible to those influences and I think most of them are completely out of their minds nowadays even if it doesn't seem like it on the outside.
But I'll shut up now, I don't mean to derail the thread.

I've never actually seen any vtubers. care to recommend this newbie any?

Hard to quantify. For many people, it's like an interactive slice-of-life anime. For others, like me, it's kind of like an extra degree of separation between me and the person on the other side of the screen. You get to project a character out on the person you're watching. To me, I hate being called out/singled out so being one of thousands of anonymous chatters is far better than being singled out for a conversation.
With chatbots, you often have to think of things to say to them. With vtubers, you get to say stuff to them in reaction to things they do.

They are 3D women.
Vtubers are literally e-girls hiding behind an anime girl avatar.
Drifter · 2023-02-05 12:30
Don't really watch them, but it does feel like a breath of fresh air compared to 'e-whores'. I like the concept because it's just meant to be cute, so no degeneracy.

It's not just girls. Most people are selfish, one could argue that it's just human nature. It's also true that most relationships don't work, which is why it's so rare nowdays that people get married without having lots of dates before, and also why the rate of divorces is so high. Even if you happen to met a good girl, chances are that you might still not be a good match and you'll end up drifting apart eventually. If you don't want to suffer then just stop looking for dates. If it's meant to be, it will happen naturally. Just don't hold your breath.
Acid Burn · 2023-03-05 13:09
I watch VTubers because some of them are really good at singing. Check out Suisei's The First Take or Kanata's 3rd anniversary live for example.
Also, there are VSingers too. If you are new to it, check someone like KAF first. Hachi, Figaro, etc. are also good.

true, it's retarded to idolize them.
Unspecified · 2023-03-18 21:04
i love watching streamers, especially ones who run in vr, it's all very impressive and the novelty hasn't worn off yet. my mind gets future-shocked when i wander into someone's channel and they have a whole show based off of how their voice, effects or avatar interacts on the fly. I will probably look for other platforms after twitch goes 50/50. "i don't get why people like it it's just..." it's entertaining to interact with a cute person, idc what they look like irl because my entire life i've been accustomed to dealing with avatars they're just your brain's idealized puppet-of-itself.
Does anyone know of a good way to process pre-recorded webcam footage with an avatar overlay? All search results are for live streaming.

Imagine someday we have M"M"Os where all the other players are AI players who won't do annoying soykaf like spam advertisements in chat or congregate in areas.
>>10345
You're delusional if you don't think the main appeal of vtubers is sexual. There's a reason why fans freak out if the vtuber talks to a male on stream.
Switch · 2023-06-03 00:33
Gawr Gura singing is ASMR. I can listen to her croon all day.
Lunch · 2023-06-08 18:50
I've been watching quite a bit of GrimmiTV. The woman behind the character is a voice actress IRL and her bits include dramatically changing her voice and accents depending on redeems on Twitch. She also voices Grimmi's twin brother Gaspar.
