Microsoft just announced it is deprecating Paint. Thoughts?
This Lain admits that, even with all the far superior programs out there, Paint is still their visual go-to. They have fond memories of scribbling and filling in colors at a young age. They drew their first porn on paint in their early teens. They are comforted by knowing that a version will always be available, buried in the internet somewhere...

I have an old Dell Dimension 3000 which I use all the time, offline, for a variety of silly reasons. I use MSPaint all the time.
I'm sick today and it's playing tricks with my reading. I read your first line as "defecating paint". I'd post a picture of that but pretty sure it'd be against the rules.

I gave up on paint completely after 2008. I carry around, on my wallet, a live usb with my favorite distro (of tge month) and one with portables, including GIMP.
I just don't understand why is that big news. Sure I grew up using it, but that thing is worthless.

OP here, apparently the decision has been reversed

it won't be installed by default but will be available free to download on windows store
so some good/meh news. Vague cheers all round

GIMP, Krita and other FOSS raster graphic suites are all far superior, but they have one common issue: they neeed a soykafton of time to startup, compared to lightweight MSPaint, and that's annoying everytime you need to do something really simple, basic and fast. The only fully featured editors comparable with it iv'e used are Corel PhotoPaint and PhotoFiltre

Paint is my go-to for screen capture. PrtScn>Paint>Crtl+v>crop>Ctrl+s

It still seems to be the end of Paint, then. Nobody will have it installed and will install something else, like Paint.NET.

m$ safe space thread?
i haven't used paint since windows xp, but it was undeniably a good program. the finest tool out there for making pixel art imo. i wonder if ms could be convinced to liberate the source code for pre-vista paint. it would be great for publicity, what with all the gnu integration they've been doing these days.

whoa, me too

the --no-fonts option helps considerably with GIMP. still pretty bad though.

>Paint.NET
now that was some quality software. i used to write tutorials on the paint.net forum in junior high.

They have really mastered the UI. The common actions are right up front, they don't split functionality to different tools, and they build off of other common UI attributes. That last point is actually extremely important for making good UIs. Only downside is >proprietary
For contrast, in GIMP, it's a bad sign that pressing B isn't the brush shortcut, like in Paint.NET or Krita. There's a couple redundant tools, like the Zoom, Crop, Rotate and Flip, which both depend on the Selection tool. There's tools with little use, like Scissors Select. The Select by Color tool is just a global Fuzzy Selection tool (Paint.NET puts the two together), so why not put similar functionality in the same tool? There are so many details done wrong in GIMP, besides its long loading time.

You should use ShareX for screen capturing.
It has a ton of features such as auto upload, video capture, simple editing, etc.
