lainchan / sec

Is anyone up to starting a community /sec/ wiki filled with resources and guides?
We could all work together and teach each other new stuff, and as something like a wiki or group project can teach unexperienced people new skills.

What about starting a "resources and guides" thread instead? For
example, you could use this thread as such and request a mod to
better organize it. We also have a channel for discussing such things
on irc. `#lainctf`

We already have one, and these threads are super volatile and not easy to search for specific info.

It was, in my mind, that we can have a collective resource to teach and show other people and as a sticky resource, without having to create new threads. and a way that new people can learn and discover the craft. At least that was what was going on in my head.

I think lainon means like a sticky that has the basics for newbs.Sort of like the various board stickies on basicchan.
I could definitely use it. I'm doing a coursera course and one of the required readings was literally a talk by an NSA dude. Could use something with better info to learn from.

I feel your thinking is right. A wiki is much better organised and interlinked.
Anamika · 2020-01-11 22:26
I wonder why are people against this, doesn't lainchan already have a lisp section around?

and static and stale imho.
/general/ -> paste -> wiki
At least by the time you get to a paste you know what the overall structure is shaping into for the wiki and don't make dead ends that sounded useful at the time but were never eventually populated.

And your point?
Of course it's going to have slower content updates.
That's the point of a wiki, a catalog of information vs threads.
>arguing that searching through posts is more efficient than a wiki

To clarify, a centralized location for *all* lainchan content/knowledge wouldn't be a bad thing.
Perhaps I was too snarky, sorry, but why not just do both?

Monthly post archives!! That would be a comprehensive solution.
A curated index (e.g. "densest threads" by category or w/e) would fulfill the wiki function.
Hououin Kyouma · 2020-01-14 06:10
OP here, I think I'm gonna backtrack on the idea simply because they're already large collection of resources already curated and updated by others, but I think updating and setting up a stick for a resource having these dumps might be nice.

There's always been a sense of elitism. A significant proportion of the community will always try to "gatekeep", and remain hostile to new people, and try to keep their skills and knowledge secret.
It's probably why the majority of people on the internet have no concept of data security, and have no interest in the issues concerning net neutrality or data privacy.
If we came out of the fuarrrking basements and tried encouraging people to peek behind the curtain, maybe we wouldn't be living in such a candy-coated Orwellian goldfish bowl hell today.

Yeah, that's the sad truth. As many of us have seen, at an enterprise level it's even worse. People hate changes that interfere with their "productivity".

People ask "what's the most dangerous X to our organization".
Most of the time it's not some APT group dropping 0days to get in from the perim, it's some dumbass in sales clicking on "Salary2020Q2.docx"
Or password spraying OWA with soykafty passwords.
People "in the industry" typically fare a little better, but I've seen domain admin accounts with 7c all lowercase passwords so idefk any more.

How about coordinating to the extent possible with install gentoo? For instance, this thread would make a decent wiki page "List of Security Challenges".
Technician · 2020-07-19 11:52
The only good way to do something like this is to just do it yourself... set up a small site with a forum and/or irc and/or imageboard, make sure it's functional, secure it, and give it an onion address, and advertise it wisely. Whenever anyone says "why don't we [anything]" it just turns into a retarded clusterfuck (like this thread).

It would be intresting to bring a lc /cyb/ perspective to a wiki. There is cultural division between /g/ and lainchan but on technical matters we are largely compatible.
