Did any of you guys catch the Lainchan greetz in the latest 2600?
Yamaoto Toshi · 2019-07-03 15:35
nice :)
藤原純一 · 2019-07-03 20:48
>>7994 Very nice!

Just bought a copy todsy and was pleasantly surprised. Is this the first time lainchan was referenced in printed media?
HELIOS · 2019-07-05 04:06
>>8002 That's a good question. I didn't get any results for other papers. Saw a lot about several Chinese people named Lain Chan though. So like 2600, any lainons have other recommendations for hacker rags or technical magazines? I just wish there were more paper magazines like it but in other areas like programming, network engineering, crypto, etc.

>>8003 There's always Phrack, but that's digital and rarely gets updates these days,
Jens Hansen · 2019-07-07 03:30
Nice.
Y.T · 2019-07-08 06:32
>>8003 I know it sounds cliche, but -- be the change you want to see in the world. If a magazine you like doesn't exist yet, try starting it. You never know where the adventure could take you.
Ishikawa · 2019-07-08 06:47
Anybody know where I can get a copy of this for free?
Naomi Nascimento · 2019-07-08 19:52
>>8009 About half a century ago there was a man named Abbie. He wrote a book called "Steal This Book".
Faye Valentine · 2019-07-09 13:17
>>8005 >Phrack Now there's a name I've not heard in a long time. 90's memories are flooding back.
Ishikawa · 2019-07-10 03:44
>>8011 What question are you answering?
Drifter · 2019-07-11 19:49
>>8014 He's saying to five-finger it. Pocket it. Get out with it "Steal" by any other phrase.
Acid Burn · 2019-07-11 20:02
I think I've lost some neurons after reading this article. Is this what modern hacker magazines are about?
Neuromancer · 2019-07-11 20:19
>>8021 Basically. What do you expect when the 'maker' community tries to re-appropriate the term hacker and make it into a dilute, useless word that just means 'any software engineer who at least partially does their job' and also 'person who owns a soldering iron.'
Chan Siu Ming · 2019-07-12 21:17
>>8022 Afaik hacking equates to modding, haven't seen anyone call the guys making models to 3d print hackers so far. Those modding guides are often minimal effort but changing a product outside the manufacturer's intention does retain the original spirit.
Netrunner · 2019-07-14 01:08
>>8030 True. I've def seen those 3d printer guys self-describe as hackers, though. Kinda weak imo
Mentat · 2019-07-14 22:15
>>8051 Hopefully was about 3d printed hacks. I.E. something I've been using myself is a yagi-antenna mod which is just a stick with correctly distanced holes to set wires and pull over regular wlan radial antennas. Looks laughable basic but does an amazing job if you need more reach.
Lainon · 2019-07-15 09:37
>>8020 Ah I see. It's not sold in stores anywhere near me
Dujour · 2019-07-15 09:39
>>8022 So it's not a real hacker magazine anymore?
TheReal · 2019-07-15 22:28
yoo i saw this in the store and spat out my coffee.
Anonymous · 2019-07-15 22:34
>>8021 Hello, I'm the author. This article was a simple one-page experience, published near the back of the magazine. This wasn't a l33t h4x0r guide or anything technical, just thoughts about a potential attack vector on those who use default VPN configurations.
Pris · 2019-07-17 02:05
Is there anywhere you can read 2600 scans without paying?
Sabo Engle · 2019-07-24 00:42
>>8066 Not that I know of, unless another lain uploads them for you.
Donauholz · 2019-07-25 12:03
>>8060 Thanks for the reminder. Never use a VPN without a Killswitch.
