So, i was asked by my friend to find a password for a filemakerpro file
obviously my friend is the owner of this file and just forgot the password. it's a spreadsheet and he needs to edit it, so he needs the password, and i found a particularly susp program to do it
https://www.passware.com/filemaker/
but how hard is it to bruteforce the password in python? i assume it'll return pass/fail, but he hasn't given me the file yet, so i dont' know yet

>bruteforcing
Probably not going to work well for you considering 8 characters and up (depending on the hashing algorithm) can take anywhere from hours to days to "lmao we're going to be in a new millennium" even using an extra large gpu instance in AWS.
Especially in python.
If you can extract the hash/look at how it's being decrypted, you might stand a chance.
Your best case is going to be that and to generate a wordlist or possible set of passwords he used and mutate those.
Otherwise, you're just not going to brute force anything over 10 or 12ch without waiting a looooooong time.
Keep in mind: permutations = keyspace! / (keyspace - len(password))!

You should ask this question in the Simple Security Questions thread, rather than create a new thread for it.
In any case, you seem to have solved your problem by yourself, so that would leave this thread lingering for months now.
