Running Tor Exit Nodes

Donna Hawthorne · 2018-11-14 18:45
Yo, any Lainons here who run Tor exit nodes? I'm looking for a cheap hosting service that lets me run a Tor exit node on a VPS. Any recommendations? Minimum requirements: at least 20 Mbit/s unmetered bandwidth, Tor-friendly AUP. Nice to have: OpenBSD support. You can also post your experiences and stories of running Tor relays in this thread.

https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/GoodBadISPs I don't use them, but I think PulseServers is the cheapest. Runs OpenVZ, but I'm not sure how much that matters if you assume that all exits are in hostile environments.

I've used cockbox in the past, but not for an exit node. VC makes it obvious that tor is welcome and from my experience the speed is good (I got 100 mbs at some points, with it never dropping below maybe 50) although capped, but I'm doubtful you'll use 1TB+ of bandwidth a month. VC's also nice enough to probably whip you up an OpenBSD box if you ask nicely.

>>6339 >>6338 Tor says they prefer nodes that don't run on popular hosting services because a bunch already exist on them. But they do say it's better than nothing so go nuts. Personally, I'd go with >>6350 's idea which is to run one on a cockbox

>>6350 Hey Vinnie, how's it going? Jokes apart, I'll take cockbox into consideration, even though it's a little expensive in my opinion. Thanks. More suggestions?
