Hard to believe the board doesn't have a thread about this yet, so discuss all things having to do with self-propagating programs designed to give your devices a case of cyberAIDS.

"The best antivirus is common sense." is what a lot of people say. This is only partly true. In order to have this common sense you have to be I'd say an intermediate level computer user. If you're on here I guess you are(?).
If you're serious about not getting viruses: don't go to sketchy sites, use adblock (uBlock Origin) and block scripts (NoScript/uMatrix), and don't download illegal soykaf. Again, don't go to sketchy sites - this is fuarrrking crucial.
Use VMs for opening emails if you're paranoid about that (Qubes OS is good for this - compartmentalisation). Use VMs period.
VMs can only do so much though, VM escaping viruses/malware have existed in the past.
Use a GNU/Linux distro or a *BSD as an OS - smaller attack surface (i think?).
On Windows, get AntiVirus if you want but apparently antivirus doesn't stop much in this day and age. SpyBot Search & Destroy is nice (not 'antivirus' though) but i don't recall if it's FOSS
Personally? I don't use any of that. Common sense is my anti-virus. I don't go on sketchy sites and download soykafty free software (that isn't from offical pages or open source).
