How do you go about spoofing your mac address?
I was about to write a script to just cycle through a list of mac addresses via macchanger.
How do your scripts look like?
Is there anything interesting you would like to share on that topic?

NetworkManager v1.4.2+ has a built in MAC spoofing feature. The Qubes OS docs have a nice page on it. https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/anonymizing-your-mac-address/

It's apparently a lot simpler than I thought.
Just writing
[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=yes
[connection]
wifi.cloned-mac-address=stable
ethernet.cloned-mac-address=stable
connection.stable-id=${CONNECTION}/${BOOT} into /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/00-macrandomize.conf
did the trick.
:D

Absolutely random MAC address = suspicious.
You should cycle through legit vendor MAC addresses and not connect to other networks as a thermostat.
You should also consider browser fingerprint since many public networks have a remote captive portal which serves ads and runs god knows what scripts.

So what if it's suspicious? What are they going to do about it?

It makes you unique and identifiable - the opposite you want to be.
