This is probably the closest board to this subject so here goes You always hear about fake IDs, passports, identity theft and whatnot, especially in TV/movies, whatever the question here is: how are they really done? any info/books? do you think you can go about carding a fake ID successfully in your country?
StaticVoid · 2018-08-22 16:37
>>5656 >do you think you can go about carding a fake ID successfully in your country? By experience you can do it in Mexico, and it's quite cheap a national ID (IFE) cost somewhere 50USD .

it really comes down to what and where you are sourcing the documents from. Forging documents is a very lucrative and long standing profession. much like counterfeiting money. There are different levels of counterfeiting documents though. >people who try to make imitation documents these are your typical teenagers making fake ID cards with lamination paper or a card printer to buy alcohol (common in the united states) >people who make legitimate but illegally sourced documents "knowing a guy" in the system who can input information. this used to be able to be done by stealing peoples information and requesting a reissue of documents "i lost my passport" kind of stuff. alternatively there was a method where because of loopholes in digital registration, people could register as a coroner or something and enter junk information into legitimate birth and death records databases, to my knowledge this no longer works, but it used to be a way to set up legitimate pseudonyms with their own bank accounts and identities. >getting legitimate documents from shady countries this is by far the most obvious illegitimate sourcing, as some countries are known to provide documents for anybody willing to pay outrageous amounts of money to the corrupt government as far as actually "faking" documents goes, this is much harder, because many regions have started putting special papers, material, microprint, and RFID technology into documents to deter counter-fitters, which is why poorly made European drivers licenses may work in the US, but would not pass a simple inspection in the EU

>>5660 >as some countries are known to provide documents for anybody willing to pay outrageous amounts of money to the corrupt government Can you provide an example? or are we talking about almost-bankrupt microcountries here?

Everywhere you'd encounter a personal ID check, there is a computer connected to ID database. So it's either a legit document with your face on it, obtained through connections and very big money, listed in database and all previous documents with your face deleted before neural networks scanned them, or you're stuck in 90's.

>fake IDs, passports, identities ect Mostly bullsoykaf, fifty years ago if you had access to good quality printing supplies you could get away with this. It was also pretty easy to con slow as fuarrrk bureaucratic processes through chains of fake documents, essentially creating a closed loop of real documents by abusing incompetent small government agencies that never talked to each other. Today even if you could fake an ID, passport, or whatever, that doesn't matter. For anything important they just phone home to the NSA, FBI, state database or whatever and say, does this match your records? fuarrrk all chance of messing with those unless you have friends in high places, or lots of bribe money. Same with the whole "fake identity" soykaf, it worked when databases were mostly paper and were fragmented clusterfucks. Today it's much much harder, not only because a lot of blindspots have been closed, and databases centralized, but papertrails are too fuarrrkhuge to easily fake. It's not too hard to figure out that someone who doesn't have a file full of data from google and facebook is probably a fake person. There are of course still ways around this, you can still trick the bureaucracy into soykaf since it's still a lumbering slow dumb inefficient beastie, but it's no longer really something reasonable or cheap to do. Mostly it involves bribing countries with soykaf security measures and no datasharing with the US into issuing you soykaf. You could also try to take advantage of a crisis to slip into a system unnoticed (e.g. the refugee snafu) In the soviet collapse for instance, lots of fake people were made. But yeah, you need serious resources these days. The real kicker, is that all this government ID and papers bullsoykaf is something that only really happened in the last century or so. In just a few generations we've gone to needing barely any documentation at all, to only the rich being able to have any privacy. Every generation we lose more and more freedom, and let the state and pseudo-state corporate soycaff suckers tighten their grip around our throats. Why the fuarrrk should I need state ID to live my life? It's only gonna get worse from here on, state databases of Biometrics, needing to give DNA at the police-state checkpoints, auto-turret manned fences at the border keeping us in. What a steaming cup of soycaff, I thought that a /cyb/ dystopia would be a lot more fun than this

>>5656 The most common means of getting an alternate identity is probably most famously described in the book/film Day of the Jackal, wherein the Jackal takes a dead child's birth certificate and uses it to request a passport. This used to seriously work until only a few decades ago. Now, however, the process is more or less out of the question. >>5660 is more or less correct. You can basically have imitation documents (good for getting into a club or whatever), but for anything important (national identification documents like a passport) this won't work at all. Fake, but "valid" documents are really restricted only to nation-states, these days. Probably the best bet is to pay a lump sum to a drug addict for their passport or identity, and hope they either don't report it stolen or OD before they have a chance to.
Netrunner · 2018-08-27 15:41
>>5663 I knew a Cambodian who told me you can change your date of birth through bribery. Apparently it comes in handy if you are migrating to a country with age restrictions on marriage. That is the extent of my knowledge, but I'm sure you can get fake passports and whatnot through similar means. But quite frankly a Cambodian passport isn't gonna get you far. But yeah it would be quite a feat to achieve this in a developed country. Western passports are valuable for a reason. It was certainly possible in the 80s however. Kevin Mitnick was printing legit birth certificates at one point.
Yet Another Lainon · 2018-08-27 16:04
>>5689 You might be able to chain together a few steps to get a US passport from the Cambodian one, but it would take some serious doing (either find someone to marry you or start a company that can issue work visas under your real identity and then issue one to your fake identity, then eventually have to go through the whole citizenship process). Paying a homeless person is faster and easier.
Nameless · 2018-08-27 16:05
The only real option these days is to steal someone's identity. But you won't have much luck using it to fly internationally, automated biometrics were installed in my country just a few years ago. Immigrants could flee the country by borrowing a friend's passport. Very expensive to chase them down. I guess we installed the new system to stop that. Now you won't get past security. Even if you pretend to be a refugee, I think they'll just take your biometric data and it'll show up on their records, assuming you have a passport. If you never had a passport it might be possible. But you'll only be able to get a passport for one identity. But yeah, it's not the card or even the photo that matters. That's just for bars and soykaf. The important part is the number. They look that up in a database. If you don't show up in it, or the photo in the database doesn't match the photo on the card, you're screwed. It's unfortunate that our faces are about as unique as fingerprints. It's gonna be real hard to stay anonymous in the future.

>>5691 >automated biometrics were installed in my country just a few years ago Germany has had this for a few years too, and it looks like it is coming to more US airports, I came across this article some time ago, and forgot to post on here https://incyberdefense.com/daily-brief/orlando-facial-recognition-technology/ >>5668 This was still working to my knowledge up until a few years ago, and may still be working. the demand is pretty high for peoples identities who are under 18, because they usually have not traveled or gotten official government documentation. The FBI did a pentest with the state department and was able to get a complete set of fake documents of identity info found on dark net markets IIRC

>>5656 >do you think you can go about carding a fake ID successfully in your country? It depends on your use case. If you're looking for an ID that can get you international travel or trick a cop who runs your ID, that's pretty hard. If you just need something to trick a cryptocoin exchange into thinking you're someone else so you can anonymous buy bitcoins or if you're an underage kid trying to get into a club or buy booze, that's pretty trivial. The process for the latter use case is just getting a machine to print cards, then finding a photoshop template for your country or state's ID and putting two and two together. I knew a guy a few years ago who did this. For online services, you can also just photoshop a scan of an actual id. I did this to trick facebook into letting me use an obviously fake name a long time ago.

On the topic of fake IDs, buying fake IDs, fake paperwork: How does one go about finding a Darkweb marketplace, and after that how does one tell if it's legit or not? Can anybody point me in the direction of resources related to this? I'm not just talking about drugs FYI.

>>5660 >these are your typical teenagers making fake ID cards with lamination paper or a card printer to buy alcohol (common in the united states) Honestly, the technical know how for this is the only thing worth discussing in here. Your printer was probably designed to expose you. Your fliers are not anonymous. http://seeingyellow.com/
Pris · 2018-11-04 01:51
What's the use case for this, realistically? It's fairly trivial to whip up an ID or badge using a printer and lamination, or you can spend ~$800 and get a high quality badge printer. Make some using an alias and fake business and you can legally carry something that would only take a little social engineering effort to pass yourself as someone else with. Just sayin', since some people here may actually be interested in doing this when they could be doing something far less dangerous.
Fred Nurk · 2018-11-04 10:33
You can probably buy the machine on alibaba or aliexpress.

>>6231 Most markets are sketchy as fuarrrk and could exit scam or get raided any minute. Deepdotweb has a pretty reliable listing to get started, dream and Zion seem OK, but you shouldn't place much trust into them.
Bob Arctor · 2018-11-04 15:59
>>6231 IIRC there were a few dark web markets that had some rather booming businesses, but anything on the dark web is not inherently trustworthy. going through the legwork to buy identities from the dark web and registering them legally is one way that the FBI found a flaw in their system (this is one reason why personal information is bought and sold on the dark web aside from carding scams). There also used to be the online registry where people could make themselves generate real birth certificates through a series of loopholes that have since been closed. >>6238 the EFF has a list of printers that do not put microdots on them, but telltale signs like the the ink and paper used are an age old technique used in document detection and tracing. to be honest though, some small businesses have laminated "guest passes" and other non critical badges, which was discussed as a penetesting technique at DEFCON (basically taking pictures of people who wear their badges outside of work and then Photoshop your face onto their badges) or making a "printer service tech" badge and carrying around a tool bag. >>6239 high quality document forgeries have been practical for hundreds of years, with tech validation, they are becoming less important, but for the most part, the only use is to fool the occasional bouncer or liquor store owner. Unless someone is living in a country that does not include anti-counterfitting tech like scanable chips or UV watermarks. Fake IDs can also increase the penalty for crimes, and the more intricate the fake, the worse the penalties. >>6240 Anything associated with one of these could be traced back to the buyer though, which I think was not the intent of the OP. an ideal counterfeiter would also use the same type of machine as legitimate ID agencies, which have started using more sophisticated measures and better databasing, so even if the document was a 1 for 1 copy, the moment someone runs the name into a database, the user would be found out. IIRC german customs checkpoints use RFID embedded in passports to verify users crossing into germany through official routes
