ITT we again for the millionth time discuss how to make Windows 10 a more secure OS and keep Microsoft and other spying bodies out of our computers.
>inb4 just use linux, and all that.
Yeah, we already know, its not being disputed.
What are some steps you guys make to W10 to secure it more? It'll never be a true Linux alternative, but just like many others here I'm sure, I still have a need for Windows. Best I can tell, the most data-hungry components collecting the most info of W10 are
>Cortana (fuarrrk this soykaf)
>Edge
>The App Store (fuarrrk this soykaf too)
>Windows Defender
>explore.exe (Yes, I believe its relaying data back to Microsoft)
What can we do to take away the bulky unneeded stuff and make the computer running the OS bare functional? Granted, cutting the internet to it solves every issue, but for the sake of this thread, we will assume there is a constant internet connection.

If you've already seen this thread 1 million times why do you think posting it again is a good idea?

For something new, of course. W10 keeps changing everything.

ITT: How do we make danger safe?
You can avoid danger, or make some deep changes to the danger. The former you are not interested in as stated in OP, the latter doesn't really work because closed source n' soykaf.

Set up a firewall and proxy on your network and block everything on that host that isn't configured to use the proxy. Problem solved. Or continue to look for the button that's going to let you trust your OS. It's your choice.

The easy way I know is to just use Windows 10 for games or the odd program that is Windows exclusive on a separate machine and have your dedicated Linux desktop or laptop for everything else. I truly understand the fact that not everyone can completely abandon Windows for one reason or another but what I don't understand is why people feel the need to try to take a product that is known to revert changes made to it and try to make it conform to your standards. This is like going to a church and trying to turn it into an atheist clubhouse. We currently have Linux, which while it's not perfect can at least be modded without some company trying to take complete control of it.
I'm a PC gamer, so I have a desktop with Windows for games and any other computer I have will just have Linux Mint. Why not just make your life easier?

Why do people insist on "securing" a closed source operating system that runs in privileged mode on your box? By design, the operating system is the thing you have to trust 100%. It's the axiom of software security and everything else comes after it.

Just accept that it's not secure and won't ever be.
