Is there any possibility for me to create a virtual machine to use restricted websites secretly at my workplace? I work for Microsoft through a big outsourcing company based in India. If so, is it traceable by the skilled MS network admins? i

Wouldn't this require knowledge of your company's security setup? For example, if you had a virtual machine making https connections then the site you're accessing is still visible in the company logs. You could find a way to proxy or encrypt the request via something like Tor or an outside proxy but depending on the company's setup this might get flagged as well. A personal smartphone might be the way to go in this case.

Why dont you use remote desktop things , rtp vnc ... You can also use ssh tunneling etc tunneling alternatives.

A virtual machine, on it's own will not solve your problem since traffic generated by the VM will be as likely to be flagged. You're going to want something like a VPN or Tor to obfuscate your traffic, but that creates its own problems. The best bet is Tor using an HTTPS bridge. Stick THAT into a VM.

>>4320 This isn't a bad idea, but still do it ala VM. It just depends on what you're doing/viewing and how risky it is. Facebook? Online games? Admin is just gonna grumble and ignore you as long as you get work done? Use a socks/http(s) proxy. Selling secrets? Pirating? Risque anime? Admin is going to lose his mind? I wouldn't risk it but if you do chose to risk it, use FDE on your VM, make fuarrrking sure your (anonymous traffic solution) doesn't use your DNS to your intranet or ISP DNS. Make. Sure. Nothing. Leaks. An easy way would just be to spin up a vps and rdp into it if you're just reading. Else, use a VPN+TOR in a VM with FDE and PAM if you want to get jiggy with it. For god's sake if you're doing something illegal, make sure you don't use your solution ONLY when doing dumb soykaf. Something something traffic and behavior correlation, you get the idea.

If you want to use Tor and a VM, I recommend Whonix. https://www.whonix.org/

>>4318 >>4321 >>4332 >>4333 What is this obsession with virtual machines? If IT has root on your workstation then they have root on all your virtual machines. A virtual machine does not gain you anything at all in this situation. >>4320 This is what I was going to say when I saw OP. Especially if your job is in any way technical you should be able to justify using ssh. ssh has a -D option which will listen locally as a socks5 proxy and forward any traffic to the other end of the ssh tunnel.
