How do you defend against being framed for a crime? For example, I've been thinking about pwnage by cop for a while. Swatting is a classic, but consider this: let's say my roommate pissed me off so much that I want to ruin his life permanently. >I start micro-dosing him with drugged food and lowly increase dosage over the course of several months. Once I start seeing withdrawal symptoms, I drop the rest of the stash in his drawer and call the cops. >I borrow one of his USB sticks and install Tails. What do you think about these hypotheticals? How would you defend against this sort of thing?

I assume cops would try to figure out the origin of the drug, so you had better be very discrete in procuring it. Similarly for tails. It will be suspicious if it is apparent you use it yourself, and even more so if it is found you downloaded it but aren't using it. All that is reactive defense, and supposes the cooperation of the police. If the cops are in on it, you're fuarrrked anyway since they can just plant and/or ignore evidences. As for proactive defense, don't associate with a scummy roommate, and regularly check whether your things have been tampered with (including testing food for drugs).

By finding a better lawyer and praying they roll well, isn't this what justice is all about? The criminal and the victim go to court and entertain the audience, whomever provides worse entertainment loses money and goes to prison.
