LainOS Layer 01: - Accela Stable Release

amnesia1337 · 2025-11-17 09:03
Here's the first LainOS Stable Release, named Accela. 4 hours after it was released, somebody popped into one of my chat servers and said they found us on distrowatch. I was like WTF we're on distrowatch? And sure enough we were(added that day). We don't need anyones criticism here, here's the release. https://gitlab.com/lainos/lainOS/-/releases/2025.11.16 I won't be here to check replies, if you want to talk, join our server below. To join our XMPP chat, visit https://lain.rocks I hope you all have a nice day! :) LALL<3

You own 2 sites but couldn't setup your own git instance?

my two sites were prepaid when I was well off and i don't have the time or money in my life to set up a git instance, which is what I originally wanted to do in 2022. I'm not sure how to satisfy your observation in my current life situation. If you could tell me what to improve that would be great. Otherwise I have nothing else to say really, just trying to get this project where the previous mantainers wanted it to be.

>>27444 >just trying to get this project where the previous mantainers wanted it to be. Then why are you not using lainWM? The last mantainer put out a big release, 1.4, a while ago

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Because at the time the develeloper you speak of and I were working together, he was working on fixing laimWM 1.3 while I built the LainOS team. They last time we spoke, he wanted the html files for my old website lainos.info, and I didn't have access to them. Then he vanished. This project was cofounded by me and him. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJABAEBCAAqIxxHcmF5c29uIEdpbGVzIDxhbW5lc2lhQGxhaW5vcy5kZXY+BQJp HFosAAoJELLlAS1Amnr7tI0P/A3oC5xQXatf19jEsnR2USr3WDINRkkjf5UFYuzD fyL0VDPwq/N4Abm7tdJ05GDMMqBCC2FOQ4YkcY8FXqClIUf3Fy2T10rbHBUbQ1eP I8D0/yqDvb40IF0t/M/MX4aufIROQuDwt2feEMPKJDVg5+AkHfniLfdbhtrZb+4G KtNvgCjqPIcNPkOUzFj4nCZozVNhLxUgkeZY4tNlNpm5AcOtoXMA4PehorT78GVk cm2ittEoDrTc4RSFkC2CLLRjP1qiycww2FnhQv6pQ/z05SThGsijbwB3iWDFUQ2E n0j5pC32XtDbiOqIWNk0F9sNa+iPhox6JQyFQImrF9NVxheLWN6S2hrwpGvMgyLR CvR/sQIbQu9jzWuPgLYX9Fttt4rvlo2dQcoRyN3SfCn/iwBLCyjcOoW1Py/+BVTT lzZ20zBNPVqAKYWzsq4NPbXLEg/cwxLwgOE8QdQaBE2Ox1QF/zcAwMspRynQ9qxu Mg56x1N23leutN5oVD2wbJhnGZq0zmIcuBMxE2yF+PkZ+OSuroorDh8to838xNSs tjn8lizwganebCsoXsV/8egM7RfjVxh5w/9X6eEhMk2f9u09ljYHGWi1OVMQZ/0a +vp80bw+R/ob//2fum8axkQ+jK1/mZk50Xfz4gscEAQ7GvaFsIXOGiZsmbmULGpp VccQ =mVWO -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

>>27445 The real reason is because the maintainer your speak of really does not like systemd, and I wouldn't think he'd like it if i put LainWM in my systemd distro. So LainWM won't be used in LainOS until systemd is replaced in our Layer 02: version. Make sense?

>>27440 Cool project, but I think the hoops you gotta jump through with TOR to connect your XMPP chat will deter a lot of valuable users and potential devs. It's not even from a lack of knowledge to set up (your instructions page is pretty good!), it's just the time and effort you need to put in to set up your connection, even if it's just 10 minutes, will deter users who don't even know if the chat is dead or not. Your project doesn't seem to have any big threat-actors (or any reason for there to be) so you should just be fine using IRC, which most people around here use and is very easy to connect to, even with something like mibbit or whatever. You can always create a channel in the Lainchan IRC. I assume you are 3-4 years younger than me from the vibe I get from your website, and this project reminds me of myself back then. Don't let go of that optimism, it's crucial to know this distro will probably never be popular but that's not why you're developing it. It's nice to see the few people my age aren't the last on these spaces.

Very cool, looks like we made it in the big ligue. I downloaded the image and source code, but havent tried it yet, will try it when i get the chance. Keep us updated.

So, its a Omarchi but with Lain.
Trinity · 2025-11-25 15:40
Personally, I really like the idea. But I think the project is going in the wrong direction
